Just bought a 92 Lebaron 3.0 V6 with 61k miles and in excellent condition, almost new. Only 1 owner dating back to 92, an 80 yr old couple for Sunday driving. Always garbage kept and general maintenance. I absolutely love it!
@5:48 There is a "Boot" that covers the top when the top is down for a finished look. In fact it's the boot that you see in the trunk of that vehicle. It locks in around the outside edge like you would imagine a pontoon boat cover, and finally locks in under that latch which you show.
Right? At least have the courtesy of taking some cleaning wipes to the steering wheel and center console before handing your car over to someone who's going to film it for RUclips.
This is a base model Lebaron. A tach was available on the next trim level. We have a 1989 GTC and the windows all work fine. It is a common issue but fixable. The Lebaron was redesigned in 1987 and had a square dash until 1990 when they updated to this style. The label in the trunk is to lock or unlock the release lever beside the seat.
Transmission issues were generally limited to the 4-speeds of the era, in particular the ultradrives. Much of the issues dealt with maintenance of course, but not always a lack of it. While a lack of maintenance could doom the ultradrive, a more common cause for failure resulted from using improper fluid. Many shops use a base ATF fluid and add supplements to bring up to code w/ mopar ATF specifications; but because of base oil incompatibility, it usually caused failure of the transmission within 10's to 100's of miles of service as the bands kept adjusting and eating themselves up. The 3 speed autos paired with 2.2's, 2.5's, and the turbo versions of these engines did not suffer these problems and thus had fairly typical to good reliability for the era.
Back in the 90s my dad rented a red Lebaron when we visited houston from the KSA. It was an updated one with fixed headlights though. I remember riding round and round the 610 loop listening to E-40’s Sprinkle me on the radio😅
I drove a 1995 LeBaron in the late 90s and put about 70k miles on it, and currently own a 82’ LeBaron. So the rear side windows are an afterthought added in 1984. They never failed on me since my car was only 4 years old when I sold it. The problem is the window motor is located at the bottom. Since these cars are over 30 years old, the drains are always clogged and the window motors simply rusted out. Because these cars aren’t collectors car and not worth much, very few owners are willing to spend the money to fix rear windows. This is why so many surviving LeBarons have broken rear side windows. The later J-body LeBarons such as this one have the exact same dashboard as the Dodge Daytona, no doubt a cost cutting measure. It also reflects the change of buyer demographics Chrysler was aiming for. The top trim 1982 LeBaron was sold for $15,000 new, when you could have bought a new Mustang or Camaro for only $10,000. The 1995 LeBaron MSRP was about $17-18K. Consider inflation, it was a much cheaper car aiming for a much younger demographic with less income. As you said not as luxurious because it was no longer aiming for the silent generation buyers.
I agree. The only thing close would be an ecoboost Mustang, but still kind of sporty; the only non sporty ones are luxury cars like the new Benz CLE but those are obviously expensive and starting to become sportier
There's a nonzero chance this car was built in my hometown. I almost wish cheap coupes and convertibles were still a thing. The K-car was showing its age but it did the cheap and reasonably stylish thing well enough. Apparently, Chrysler even tried to sell these in Europe. Collecting LeBarons. I'm glad someone does it. Someone has to show these disposable cars some love.
Glad you got the catch that one before it left! Sorry it was so grungy... That's how we got it minus the seat covers and floor mats. The sticky pop was our friend though, it blew the fuse for the cigarette lighter which also made the transmission not work hahaha. Got the gunk out of the cigarette lighter, replaced the fuse, and it shifted beautifully.
Also, we saved this car from being scrapped. The owner was going to junk it since the city was sending them parking violations for it being there. In the short amount of time between us getting it, fixing it so it would behave properly, and Zach coming out to film stuff we didn't get a chance to clean it. It was cleaned up nice afterwards before we sold it to yet another college girl who will hopefully not treat it like the previous owner.
She will though, and it will go die in a junkyard in an even grungier state. Hopefully we can find it and document, to haunt these folk's dreams with grunge forever!
@@marklucas3140 I should have the VIN here so we'll have to keep a lookout for it. I can ask Bob every so often to run a report on it to see where it ends up.

my 1st car 1994 Chrysler Lebaron. It was mint.. 17" white mag wheels with white leather interior. This video brings me way back. Lot's of memories in that car!
@@GermanCarGuyMN It was White, with white mag wheels, white leather, and a black top. I have still yet to see one ever like it again -none ever had the same wheels.
What a shame that the company that created the magnificent A727 (and no-slouch 904) became the company that "Just couldn't get it right" with their transmissions.
This is one of the models built on Chrysler's "K" car platform which were boxy cars. The "K" car platform help save Chrysler. Chrysler products have suffered from poor build quality and reliability. 5:48 Timestamp. We had a burgundy Lebaron GTC with the new version headlights. That clips where the convertible top is held down when it folds back. If you guys were able to opoerate it, you'd have gotten the chance to see.
The Budget sticker says Ft. Myers (Florida) on it. I drove a burgundy one of these as a rental car in Florida around 1992. They were fantastic cars at the time. You missed showing the puny little turn signal stalk that is attached to the left side of the dash below the buttons. It can be seen if you zoom in at 8:24.
That’s the base LeBaron. That generation was based on the G body. In fact has the same dash as the Daytona of the same year. I looked at the 90 LeBaron coupe to replace a Daytona but went with a TBird instead. The guy really needs to spend $100 on a good interior detail.
I also have a '92 (blue/white top) with the v6. Kept in the family/fun car to have. Only one rear window works😂. It's so old now that people treat it as a classic!!
You would think the owner would clean the car before allowing you to review it. The inside is NASTY. Pricked with a shard of glass? Makes sense considering the car hasn't been cleaned since 1996.
It sat in a guys driveway under a tree for years after his daughter got the baby injection in the car and bought a bubble minivan. I wouldn't be surprised if there was jizz UNDER the carpet. That's why the seats are so ripped up.
I wouldn’t touch a Chrysler with a 10 ft pole nowadays but I do miss 80’s and early 90’s Chrysler. My first car was an 87 Dodge and it was a great vehicle for a high school kid. Plenty of pep and somewhat reliable for its time. At 100k the only repair it needed was a water pump.
In 1989 if you just by chance drove a celica, or even a mustang, and then drove this in the same year, and you weren’t drunk, you would have wondered how this le baron could possibly be so crappy feeling.
I saw one in triple black with leather years ago in the junkyard. That's what I want. Either swapped to A-670, or A-543. Preferably with the digital package.
I’m comparison to competition in the late 80’s, early 90’s domestic cars (Eldorado, Riviera, Mark Vll etc…) and not to mention Japanese cars, this car was not a good option. Remember this car in the early 90’s, thinking ‘meh’.

Wow, I got the icks looking at that interior---but the car itself overall looks good for it's age, I've seen much worse than this sadly. I think those clips in the back seat are where you attach the convertible cover for when the top is down.
I had that exact same car except for the hubcaps. After about 180k miles and 16 years on it I had to get rid of it because of rust. I loved that car !

The Buick Cascada but I think those are gone too
