  • Recently we spent four nights in Cancun, MX at the RIU Palace Peninsula Resort. This all-inclusive resort was our first trip after being vaccinated, and was a great way for us to see what the all-inclusive experience is like, compare it to cruising, and dip our toes back into the travel waters. In the video, we discuss ground-transfers, COVID testing, food and drink options, beaches, our room, and more!

      There are always things that we'd like differently - but we always have fun enjoying the great things there are at resorts and on ships. We're heading back to Cancun this year and while we'll likely stay elsewhere, it's b/c we like to try different things. Loved this property - gorgeous beach, plenty of places to relax, and wildly clean.

    Nice video! I'm going there with my family next month. I'm 20 years old and love to party wild... would you say there are people aged 18-25 that would also party hard? Or would I have to go to Cocobongo or other discos outside of the hotel to find that? You mentioned the nightclub was closed at Palace Peninsula, but what about the other 3 Riu hotels in Cancun?

    Plan on going to that resort in mid-Feb 2023. Can't wait. Going solo and have never been to Cancun before.
    One thing so far I do not like about using their site (unless I just need another cup of coffee) is the ability to see my vacation package once I book. I don't see the option using the app and I don't see it online either. Vacation package means flight and hotel.

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  2 года назад

      I think we booked air separately if I recall (either we used CC points, or our travel agent took care of it). Often, resorts like this use third parties for their air programs, so unfortunately it may be that they've not integrated this into their website, but that's speculative on my part.

    Even with the COVID situation can you spend the whole day in a different hotel? I am going to be in the Peninsula from June the 26th, but I will like to eat in a Las America’s restaurant, can I do it?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  3 года назад

      Hey Carlos, as of our visit a couple weeks ago you could still do this. Other resorts aren't allowing non-guests in just to walk around, but if you're staying at one RIU Palace property, you have access to all the RIU properties. Of course things could change, but we've not heard of such changes since visiting.

    Thank you for your review. I am planning for a trip at the end of June and was looking at the different all inclusive resorts. You both provided the best info about the place and now I am close to booking this resort. One question though, Any suggestions on local restaurant which have good vegetarian food and also if Riu is a good place for vegetarian food?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  3 года назад +1

      Glad you liked the video!
      We're vegetarian-ish (mostly vegetarian, but occasionally eat fish on vacation). We found RIU very helpful in understanding what the vegetarian options were or what could be adjusted to be vegetarian. The key however was asking the staff, as the indicators on menus and the signs at the buffet were anything but clear. The buffets have a wide variety of vegetarian options. The restaurants have small menus, and thus a much smaller selection of vegetarian options - but again we found them to be helpful in explaining what the options were (on or off the menu).
      In general, restaurants in MX tend to be very aware of what is and is not vegetarian (more so than many places in the US, depending on the area). On this trip (and others) we've visited Tacos Rigo, which is not a vegetarian restaurant, but has LOADS of options and really great food. It's a short walk from RIU Palace Las Americas and RIU Cancun. If looking for a restaurant that really targets vegetarians and vegans (though they serve meat as well), check out Natura Restaurante, also in the Hotel Zone.
      The article below is really about cruising with dietary restrictions, but you may find some of the tips helpful. In the end though, it comes down to communication.
      www.cruisehabit.com/how-request-vegan-vegatarian-gluten-free-or-kosher-meals-your-next-cruise
      If you encounter issues (which you likely won't, again, eating vegetarian in Mexico is pretty easy), you may find the below expressions helpful:
      "Eso tiene grasa?" (This is literally asking, "Does this have grease?" but will be taken in context to ask if something is made with lard)
      "Eso tiene pescado or frutos de mar?" ("Does this have fish or seafood?")

    Hello! So I’m trying to book room and had to call hotel because I noticed it says 2 double beds (small) OR 1 king size. Turns out 4 adults are not allowed in one room so we will get two bedrooms. I’m just worried they don’t really mean two bedrooms and we get two small full beds lol can you give us I go on this? Don’t want to end up getting charged for an extra room😅 it’s our first time and lost lol thanks for the help!
    We’re in Texas!

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  3 года назад +1

      I'm not sure, actually. I know they have some suites that accommodate four (either via two bedrooms or an area with a pullout sofa), though whether it's cheaper to book two standard rooms rather than one suit depends on the dates. It can get confusing, especially with varying promotions - which is one of the reasons I highly recommend using a good travel agent. You can get a quote from the same people who book our trips here: cruisehabit.com/help

    Hi, did you have to call the hotel for transportation from and to the airport?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  3 года назад

      We used a company called Happy Shuttle Cancun, which we'd used on prior trips. Hotel shuttles can be an option, some are even complimentary, but may stop at several other resorts to drop others off. With Happy Shuttle and other services you can usually pay a very reasonable price for private transportation.

    How much was the taxi to Las Americas from Palace Peninsula

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  3 года назад

      It was $10-12 each way, though always easier to negotiate down when returning from the area around Las Americas (since there are a TON of cabs in that area).

      Great question! Yep, you can eat, drink, and use any of their facilities. Wristbands from the resorts are color-coded and marked so it's easy for bartenders to tell where you're staying/what is valid. We had a couple drinks at the other properties and there was zero mention or question - just like if you're staying there. In the future we'd be inclined to spend more time at the others just for the sake of variety/trying different things.

      COVID testing at the resort is complimentary. The hotel provides instructions on how to schedule the test, it's performed at the resort, takes just minutes, and you're not presented with any bill for this.
