I'm gonna buck the trend of complaining about the game, I thought it was great to see it held in a hockey town for a change and the fact it was in the biggest hockey market on the planet helped in a big way! Got to see some amazing players that don't get enough exposure for casual fans like Forsberg and Debrincat... Goalies were amazing and overall one of the better all star games in quite a few years. For those worried about 3/3 play, they don't hit when it's 5/5 so may as well enjoy the wide open shinny concept. If I had to pick one negative, I think Kuch is one of the best players in the game, but was disappointed to see how he gave up on some of the skills comps and didn't really see much during the game he was in. I'm sure a few Tampa fans would've appreciated a better effort.

The last time that happened there were six teams in the league. You can see why building a team of all stars from 5 teams, and putting them against the best existing team, made sense as opposed to creating two teams made up of 1/3 of the league's best players. With 32 teams, it makes a lot more sense to create two teams of all stars rather than putting them all on one team and having them play a team that is determined to be the best of 32. I think archaic was the right word here.@@PraxisPeabody

It was way better. If the players play on the same team each year than a history develops and they start to care more, because they don't want to lose year after year. Playing 3 on 3 and shaking up the teams is what's making this so irrelevant.@@snc237

I think the problem is because of the expansions, there's now too many teams/players to get a good distribution of players for East vs West 5 on 5

3 on 3 is so lame
I haven't watched the All-star game in years, it got very lame. But here's my take aways: NHL is still recovering after covid shutdown, so they put ads on jerseys and now take this game to a traditional hockey market where they can make tons of money, make it about the game, and not some lame fluff piece where hockey is rarely news. NHL is mismanaged on many levels, but they actually did this right. That said, I'm glad it's gone for a bit.

Congrats to Jake Oettinger and his team (Matthews) for the win! Oettinger was huge in the 2nd period to preserve the victory and doing it on a national stage. I hope this is a good omen for him in helping the Stars down the stretch!
He’s an awesome goalie.
He has had his struggles this year but he looked awesome at the all star weekend had some of the best numbers compared to the other goalies I think this was a massive confidence booster for him and he will be back to his usual elite self.
So Debrincat had 2g, 1a, and the game winner in the shoot out, then he has 1 g and 2a in the final game and Matthews is the MVP?

The game was rigged. Auston Matthews didn’t deserve to win because the MVP because he wasn’t the one who scored all the goals.

@@justburnerratically keller makes 7.15 for the next 4 seasons after this one. a steal for someone producing a point per game in arizona. matthews has always liked him, they know each other well, and the chemistry between them tonight was undeniable. matthews hasn't had a solid LW since Hyman.
tavares' contract ends next season. he either takes a hometown for 6-7 or he's gone. at best dealt as a rental. those savings added with the cap increase, overall cap% hit with keller will end up even or better by the end of next season regardless of whether tavares stays or goes.
if you could trade tavares for three years of keller you'd do it in an instant. you might even be able to have both for basically the same cap% as tavares' 11m right now by next year's free agency period. stop looking 5feet in front of you like the rest of the "fans" and look at the bigger picture. yes the leafs need better defence. but if the opportunity to upgrade for the same or better money presents itself in a hard cap system, you take it no matter what or you're a moron. it's all assets. good contracts are much easier to trade for other good players.

This is just a glorified training session for these guys. Get a standard 5 v 5 best on best all star game with some stakes behind it.
That's the dream. But it can't ever happen. Putting stakes that matter on the result of this game will create a conflict of interest. Teams who are not impacted by the stakes will quietly coerce their stars to not participate or float (to avoid risk of injury). Meanwhile players from teams who are impacted by the stakes will go full throttle, possibly getting hurt or hurting someone else. The threat of this game resulting in an injury that changes the course of a season, or even an entire career, is too great to risk for this league and its member teams.
This is not hockey.
