I love when people get Stevie the way you do! He's so special and I always want people to appreciate him and get him like I do! Like, I get frustrated sometimes, even though I shouldn't, because I think people aren't paying attention like I think they should, lol😂 I'm a mess but, I have been a huge fan since around 83...he's impossible not to watch during his performances, watching him play is definitely as important as the music itself!

That's the joy of SRV. If he puts a note in there, it does go there. This is one of the songs that I can imagine being in an intimate bar with a drink, low lights, nice atmosphere, and just melting away. And I don't even drink. Great reaction.
Would you react to Tina Turner and Jimmy Barnes, "Simply the Best". Tina passed away today at age 83.

I promise you QQ that there are at least half a dozen videos of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble playing this exact song on here. I can also promise you that although they are similar, you'll be able to hear both Stevie and Reese Wyanans just work their way through with only their ability to create at that second as their direction to make what you hear. The famous quotes about his "never playing anything the same twice" come from his brother Jimmy Vaughan, BB King, and Eric Clapton called him "an open channel, who never seems to get stuck". You are 100% correct, nobody plays guitar with SRV's emotion...nobody... Also, Stevie couldn't read music... Enjoying your reactions...have fun...

I don't play guitar either .. but why I think he's able to play so quietly at times is because of a combination of decreasing the volume with the nobs on the guitar itself and how much force he uses to strum the strings. The harder the stroke, the louder the sound is and visa-versa. Plus he is always turning those volume nobs up and down to control/produce the sounds he wants. Watch his right hand .. its almost as if he is using a feather in place of the pick to pluck the strings.

Couldn't click fast enough as I have probably requested this song in most all of my comments. However great this performance is, it wasn't the particular performance I had referenced. Specific venue requests will include personal preference but also camera work, lighting, etc. Austin City Limits 1989 remains probably the best video version there is. His studio recording from In Step is very special and has a story all its own. Thanks for bringing this today Debbie. Hoping either on your own or public reaction you will watch Austin City Limits 1989. You will know why if you do check it out. Loving your SRV reactions‼️ genuine, heartfelt, relatable, and fun. I'll always be here for more Stevie Ray any day✌️👋💙

Awesome deep cut video - still worth checking out the made for DVD version from Austin City Limits without the sound problems - also to see what everyone means "Stevie never plays the same song the same way twice" - everyone can have their favorite players but IMO no blues guitarist ever had such an open source to creativity that comes from the jazz tradition as an improvisational player as SRV...whatever was in his soul from whatever dimension he was stepping into it just poured out of him - he achieves a special zone every blues guitar player hopes to touch once in a blue moon and does it from the first note to the last in every concert.

I read an interview regarding when Stevie recorded the studio version of this song for the album... They said that when Stevie cut this song, he was alone in a sound booth with his back to everyone and lights down low. So nobody could communicate with Stevie with hand gestures etc.
The studio folks I guess didn't realize how much tape they had or didn't know Stevie was going to play that long. They were freaking out because Stevie was killing it, but the tape was about to run out. He ended the song just in time to capture it all on the recording. Obviously, he probably could have redone the ending with a little studio editing but they of course wanted to be able to say it was done in one take.

Literally two of the knobs on the guitar close to his pinky finger or volume knobs. The other two are either tone knobs or ones that changes the sound of the guitar depending on the electronics inside the guitar.

Reese Wynans was not an original member of the band. Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon are Double Trouble.. Not knowing exactly why they carried that moniker after Reese joined the band one could only surmise why. The band signed their record deal in 1983. Reese joined in 1985. Stevie actually started this band in 1977 and went by the name Triple Threat. Stevie however wasn't the vocalist for that group. A woman named Lou Ann Barton was the lead singer. When she left in 1979 Stevie was convinced to do the vocals himself. Stevie and Chris were members of that group and Tommy replaced the bass player in 1981 and that trio stuck until Stevie's untimely passing in August of 1990. About the sound, this video looked to be someone's personal recording. Whenever there's a personal recording the sound and video is going to be off. This recording sounded better than most I've seen but you could tell the video was off. Look back to when they first panned the camera to Reese, very shaky. There is a video here on RUclips of this song recorded at the same concert where he had the broken string during Look at Little Sister. The video and sound of course are both better quality and he played the song closer to the recorded studio version. A lot of musicians when playing live will do minor changes in the songs, different key, different octive, different time signature. He changed it up some here. BTW there were points in the song where he didn't use his guitar pick he used his bare thumb. That will change the volume of the notes... Next up please, Pipeline With Jimmie...

With SRV what you see is what you get and always spot on....even on his off nights if he ever had one....he was still spot on . Died so young and I can't help but carry that ...What If with me everywhere I go because it would no doubt blow our minds to have been able to see and listen to what he'd been doing today . And his keyboard player plays for Joe Bonamassa now and has for quite a while. And he's absolutely one of the best keyboard players ever in my opinion . And I mean no disrespect at all about what I'm fixing to say about this song but it would be perfect for a couple sharing a glass of wine or whatever you choose and lay back and celebrate a Anniversary or anything like that because he makes that guitar sound Sexy and I'm a man talking this stuff 😂 but I'm just thinking what a Beautiful Song for any special night with your Very Beautiful Wife or Girlfriend and just perfect for that certain occasion and I'll leave it at that 😂
