In Spain we often talk about "whitebread Americans" as being "the people without roots"; it's like, they may come tell you "yah man I'm Irish" or give you percentiles of ancestry which sometimes don't even make mathematical sense (you can't be one-third anything, seriously) but they can't tell you where their grandma was born, or how many cousins they have...
"Whitebread Americans" are that way by choice, though. African-americans were denied the choice.

Great interview & I'm looking forward to Samuel L. Jackson randomly stopping by during a show!
I'd also really appreciate seeing some discussion on how all the west coast fires are going to impact voting in November. All those people who have lost homes, what voting districts are they going to be in, the one where their old homes were or where they're sheltering? Are they going to be able to get registered in new districts in time to vote? How are the likely population shifts going to impact this year's and subsequent year's elections?
This isn't something we normally think about with major fires, but this year, as SLJ pointed out, we need as many people voting as we can get. With the fires displacing so many people, I can't help but wonder what the impact will be on upcoming elections?
