Home Burnt Down by Racist Mob Given to 97-Year-Old Survivor

- In Fort Worth, Texas, in 1939, a racist mob burned down the house of a family they didn’t want living in the neighborhood. Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Opal Lee was 12 years old at the time. This was her family’s home. The property was bought by Habitat for Humanity. A new home is being constructed there that will be given to Dr. Lee at no cost. Volunteers are building the home, and a financial services company is giving the funds for all of the home’s furnishings.
She’s 97. I sure hope she has a few more years so she can enjoy her home.❤

Candace is a prime example of a AA that was not taught what black people went thru. I doubt if she knows who Ida B Wells, Mother King(Dr King's mother), and Daisy Bates were. People that made it possible for her to even speak publicly.

This is very inspiring for me. I worked for habitat for Humanity here in Connecticut and they do excellent work. You can donate to Habitat so other people can live decently.

People have to want to do things like this for it to happen. Also, life happens, and things take time. She had her own life obstacles to overcome to make this happen at all. So no, it couldn't happen sooner.
