I have lots of dystopian movies I love: Blade Runner, Logans's Run, Equilibrium, Dark City, Mad Max, Escape From New York, to name a few. Also books like 1984 & Brave New World.

In our society, many groups are gaslit to believe they are unattractive or inferior. I was not too fazed by the actors being actually being kinda good looking. I think that’s the point!
The cg in that river surfing (?) scene is generationally bad. Pair that with their moronic, half hearted hooting, and i have to do ANYTHING else but continue watching.
There was another one , don't know the title . I assume the author stole from them. In the show girl is in her room. She had to pick the body model she wanted an face ( only like 3 options to pick from)

(spoiler warning) In this movie there is something destroying the whole world and the technologically developed branch of humanity just doesn't care? It seems even the book series doesn't bother to explain WHY... I get that conflict spread across the planet but to think humanity would somehow let a weed kill the entire planet and not once have a conversation about WHY... bad writing... would it have been so hard to spend 3 sentences to tell us the ugly to pretty procedure needed some key ingredient from the orchids? The idea "we made too many by accident because they look nice" is really freakin stupid...

Sorry. But the lead actress is very pretty. And then the pretty version of her is actually uglier. The story falls apart there. The entire existence of this world is dependent on ugly oeople wanting to become pretty. But when they are alrwady pretty it falls apart. This is a worse premise than the She's all that premise of a nerd girl takes off her glasses and is hot. At least in that one we know shes hot and it kinda makes sense.

the book came out in like 2005, well before Divergent and The Hunger Games and it was really good

It's a good time if your into YA adaptations. Getting the vibe it won't make it past the first film though sadly.
More Divergent than Hunger Games. But if you keep your expectations low, I think it's fine.
