    There's always the option of a standard clutch/shifter for the initial build, but with the possibility of changing those in the future.

  • @duncanc545
    @duncanc545 9 месяцев назад +1

    Surely the answer is to fit a rekluse clutch so you don't have to worry about the clutch at all and just focus on the hand shift.

    If you're doing a suicide clutch/hand shift- look at a Baker N1 shift drum, it puts neutral below 1st, instead of between 1st and 2nd- you'll get neutral every time, the rest is easy

    • @1badombre82

      Not really a suicide with a front brake. It's just a jockey shift

    Chey you are a very important part of BrapStar. I agree with your plan to ride Josh's XS some every day for a week to decide if you want your chopper to be a suicide clutch. I personally would only go with it if the bike I got my engine from had one.

  • @JaysonBucy

    Have you thought about looking at a centrifugal clutch like the Rekluse clutch? It's like a cheat code for first, you don't have to hold the clutch in while in first and you can just take off. I know Exile uses them quite a bit on their suicide shift bikes.

    So, if you get some scraps and some coveralls you can start welding. I don’t know what process you have, but it is fun to work with metal. It is dirty and time consuming and pretty permanent. Have fun! Learn how to braze too. If you get some copper wire you can flame braze copper to steel. Flame welding is fun.

  • @squish3r

    Oh man foot clutch is WEIRD on a bike NGL. I've done it ONCE (and not by choice...) Old Ascot had it's clutch cable break on my way to work. I hobbled it to a store and bought the cheapest locking pliers there and clipped them to the clutch action and Foot Clutch!
    So fricken nerve wracking because it wasn't "go play on my street" it was "US Highway through town to get home in 15 miles"
    Good times....

  • @davidboydarnott417
    @davidboydarnott417 7 месяцев назад

    You were very brave! 👏👏👏👏👏 I would just keep things standard hand clutch foot gears coz I'd be riding a chopper for relaxation and a suicide clutch is just an added hassle. It'd also be an accident waiting to happen with me, if I was drunk in a field or forgetful or half asleep.😂😂

  • @bradleyyounger8499
    @bradleyyounger8499 9 месяцев назад +1

    A good foot clutch will stay down when pressed so you can sit at a light. Then you rock the clutch back to take off. I think they are called mouse traps. Google harley mousetrap and it should pop up. I know a guy that had one on a panhead

    • @mikeashcraft4354
      @mikeashcraft4354 9 месяцев назад

      A foot rocker clutch if set up with friction washers will stay in release position till you "toe &go. A "mousetrap clutch setup is a mechanical booster (physics) to ease hand fatigue

    I'm sure they told you but just incase you can have the shifter next to the gas tank. Some people even put the clutch lever on the shift lever . Lol that look of "what trees?" Lol . Hope you get your chopper done in time. I'm sure it will be cool. Good vid

  • @dead7748

    You should see if you can try a bike where the clutch lever is on the hand shifter itself. Means you're pulling away with only one hand on the handlebars but at least you can have both feet on the ground. Just an idea :)

  • @masterofnonetv8361
    @masterofnonetv8361 9 месяцев назад

    If you decide to go with a hand shift you might want to talk to the builder about putting a pivot in it because this will shorten the throw so you dont have to move the shifter as far to get it into gear.

  • @mtdualie1039
    @mtdualie1039 9 месяцев назад

    With a foot clutch you should always shift into neutral at a stop light. That way if you lose your grip on the foot clutch you won't get thrown into traffic. This is why it's called a 'suicide' clutch. Jay Leno told me this personally and was definitely not from watching his YT videos

  • @theuserthatishere
    @theuserthatishere 8 месяцев назад

    nice to consider what you actually want to do with finished project. i was considering building a rat cafe but then i watched a video where a fella said, what you end up with will be a hunched over posture type of bike to get the cool look. then i thought reality is that race position would mean i would't really ride the bike much. or like the handle bars in this video on the bike you rode, cool looking and all that but overly dangerous, especially in an emergency, panic sort of situation. if you want mainly a work of art sometimes function takes a back seat,

    If you're gong to ride that shovel chop,you'll need to learn how to kick it(Provided you don't go electric leg).On that basis,you'll need to kick that xs into life.Using a different technique technique to shade tree.ie wood block under the rail beside the k/stand so that it leans,then all your weight on the kicker.

    I wouldn't get a foot clutch... unless you've got a Knucklehead or something that came with a foot clutch/tank shift it doesn't seem worth it. I've never ridden a foot clutch bike, so I probably shouldn't comment. : ) I have a buddy with a 1940 something Harley WLA with a foot clutch, and he offered to let me ride it sometime, but I haven't yet.

    Don't spend the time to learn to lay perfect dimes, and then go fuck up your bike and get depressed is all I am saying...
