Dry fly fishing on the river Yeo

- The water levels may have been a bit low but i managed to find a few rising fish and some of them were willing to take my dry flies. I fear this year will turn out the same as last season with fishing soon restricted to early mornings/late evenings in a couple of weeks if this dry spell continues. As I'm typing this we are only one day off the summer solstice, where did this season go?
Pleasure to watch as always Chris. Tight lines 🎣
Hi Chris ( Me again) working my way through your videos - stunning. I watched the Fingle brdge video last night, i live two miles from there!
Your going to be spoilt for choice Paul👍 The Teign isn't quite the river I knew as a child but still a beautiful spot and if you catch it on the right day the Trout fishing can be excellent. I must try and get back this year in better conditions.
Nice to watch someone else fly fishing
Hi Chris, thanks for another nice video and a pleasure to see you catching a few, I'm no longer fishing as no point with rivers desperately low and no fly life . Thought of the upland lakes in the hills but at 75 too much of a trek to get to them , we've had some rain and the dam is putting compensation water into the vyrnwy but not enough to make a difference so it looks like a waiting game now. ATB Mike
Tiny bit of rain here Mike but no impact on the rivers, had a few off the Moor (next video) but our lowland rivers are now suffering.
Well done. Since I last caught a fish I've had 4 blanks in a row, broken two rods and found a new hole in my waders. I might take up basket weaving as a new hobby.
Bloody bad luck breaking TWO rods, I did wonder about the lack of videos? It's just been a really shit season across the country, at least you had those cracking fish in the spring.
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Its been a combination of crappy conditions, being on holiday and damaged tackle. I bought a new rod today though, a TFO Pro II 9ft 4wt. I might try to get out on Thursday, or the clubs annual sea trout -piss up- evening session on Friday.
@@thetattooedangler hope your luck changes 👍 i just repaired a tear in my waders too,
i really hope it works!! All the best.
Hi Chris, lucky you! At least you have trout that are still interested in feeding. I have fished early and late with no rise whatsoever. Mind you, river levels are extremely low as are oxygen levels too I presume. Still, nice to see someone is doing quite well.
Cheers Peter, we're in the same boat now, this is from a couple of weeks back, our streams are showing their bones this week, need a bit of rain.
Well done Chris …you handle that small stream very very well mate 👍👍
Many thanks, a result of my not so misspent youth (if i was late home it was normally because of one last cast).
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 😂👍
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 absolutely understand mate …that’s me to a tee as well😂😂
A nice fishing season 👌
A nice and relaxing watch as ever, you did well and had a good day, some lovely trout netted, there.
Nice to have a few rising fish to go at, shame it hasn't lasted, looks like we're already at the early morning/late evening partvof the season.
Some nice fish there, Chris. Really need a bit of water now.
Yes Ben, getting a bit desperate now, even the little moorland stream is low, this seems to be the pattern for recent seasons.
A few nice fish there Chris. Up here it's shaping up to be the shortest season on record. No water! We had a few downpours over the past few days but nothing like enough. Must be a month since I last cast a fly.
Looking around the forums etc.. Fred it appears we haven't done to badly down here this season, even though I would class this year as below average.
Had a similar experience up there shy sippers had a good few on a mixture of griffiths gnats, emergers and the APT its a fun stretch to fish
It's handy for me Oliver as it's just down the road, not for the faint hearted though having to climb over all those boulders. Not sure they bring much to the stretch it I'm honest. It seems to have a been a season of "shy sippers".
had an evening on the Wiltshire Wylye last night. Mayfly hoping around at 8pm but not a rise. Had a lot of rain night before and it has come up an inch or two. 1 nice Graying for my efforts
Maybe the rise in water put the trout off Brian? Although I've had a few sessions this year with a bit of fly life around but no fish.
Best of the season is over already! We've had shit season: early spring cold and river high and then straight in to drought. In other words we kind of missed spring. Oh to have normal weather!
Yep, longest day tomorrow and then the nights start drawing in, wtf happened? We've had a bit of rain today but nothing like enough, already talk about stopping fishing because of too high water temps.
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 It's depressing. Spring didn't really happen. I'm just concentrating on mountain lakes and a bit of seatrout fishing now. I might head of September to finally get to fish the Usk, but not holding my breath.......it will be no doubt flooded again by then 🙄
You mentioned . Flies. i drove heavies for 40 years and it was not unusual to have to pull over to clean my windscreen.
those days are gone. when was the last time you had a screen covered in bugs. A sad reflection on the way we treat our planet
Exactly Brian, I remember cleaning my dad's car as a kid and having to scrape the bugs off the number plate. How quickly people forget and this becomes the norm. My kids will never experience the countryside that I knew just as I grew up in a shadow of what my father knew, and so on.
Thanks for the nice video. Really liked it. Maybe a strange question; but why do you have heating tube insulation around your net?
Hi David, it's to make the net float, it allows you to rest a fish in the net before release if required. It also stops the net from catching on the bottom if it detaches from the magnet and trails behind you. You can also rest your rod and reel on it but I tend not to do this as I have a clip on my belt to store the rod in. Thanks for the comment.
