Living in Colorado. Having had 10 eye surgeries in the past 23 month my fishing opportunities have been few and far between. Thanks so much for the beautiful stream and plebtiful trout and scenery.
You're most welcome, Glen, not exactly the Rockies, but it will do for me 👍. I hope things improve for you for 2024, and you can get some fishing sorted.
Thank you Chris, always good to see some Dartmoor action and great to see a little green leafage and even some midge action to boot. Hope you weren't bitten too badly. Lifts the spirits tremendously in damp, dark, London. A proper Christmas special. Thank you once again.
Thanks Richard, nice to know it brightened your day a bit. The only problem for me is that the editing has flared up that itch you can't scratch (especially with all this bloody rain). Is there a limit to how often you can rearrange your fly boxes? I'm already at the stage of tying flies I don't really need! 😕
An excellent forethought there Chris and even more so with the soggy autumn/winter we've had and the grayling rivers continually blown out ! Fabulous and huge fun water again there , great to see you guys out enjoying it again but am still insanely jealous!!😉 Have a great new years and then we can all start thinking of spring a tad more! Cheers🤠
Thanks Nick, it will soon be here. Our club starts the river work in a couple of weeks (weather permitting), which at least gets me back in the river mucking about 👍
Very nice thought Chris, very welcome during the never ending storms lol Cheers!! haven't bothered going to see my local recently just been so much rain will be a different river come march. Aww the best for the new-year tight lines 🎣
We've had the same Darren, just flood after flood. One of the interesting things each season is to see how the rivers have redesigned themselves, but bloody hell our stream here is nearly in the fields!! There should be another video dropping New Year's Day on my favourite river Taw👍
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 I was just down the river for a stroll this morning, still roaring down as it has been since October. More rain forecast from tomorrow! I just hope the spawning has not been too badly affected.
Great to see this stuff on a dark, miserable winter day, Chris! these tiny streams and wee wild trout have an irresistible charm! I'm compiling some small stream stuff ATM myself but its coarse fishing in the dead of winter - similar obsession for me but a whole different vibe! Happy and prosperous new year, man, and lets see a bit more ? 🙂👍👍
Cheers David merry Christmas to you and yours. Keep the coarse fishing vids coming. I used to do a fair bit of it with my dad, and it brings back many happy memories. Mostly stocked ponds and canals, but we also did some trotting on the Exe when I was a kid. Happy days.
Smashing video Chris just the tonic that was needed as my hopes of Autumn grayling sessions came to nothing with our rivers in continuous spate since end of trout season so it's been fly tying and leaders for me , hope you're having a nice xmas break. ATB Mike
Thanks Mike, merry Christmas, our rivers have been the same, the best laid plans!! Three years in a row that I've arranged some Grayling fishing only for it all to be washed out!
Thanks Chris. This is a nice surprise. I'm getting ready for next season, having replaced or repaired some tired tackle, and purchased a new 3wt fibreglass rod. Looking forward to my first cast with that. Hope you and yours are keeping well.
Cheers mate, look forward to some reports on the fibreglass rod, I have been thinking about getting one. Not that I need another rod, but when did that matter.👍
The one weight was great for playing the tiny fish in this stream, but it didn't quite have the delivery of the 2 weight. Both are cheap maxcatch rods so maybe not the aftm fault?
Lovely watch, thank for sharing.. ive managed a few grayling trips recently which was nice but last weeks been shocking rain so going to be a while now.. Happy New Year when it comes 🥃
Well done for getting out, I've managed one Grayling trip in the first week of October, and that was it! Just constant high water ever since😕 . It's not looking too promising for our bank clearing work atm. Happy New Year 👍
ps, ref the 'glass post there, great fun they are and I definitely bounce far fewer fish off with mine and fab for any little flick rolls/change of direction casts .
Hello Chris. Seasons greetings! Up early this morning and saw this appear. As is the norm never disappoints! Santa delivered some amazing bits! Loved watching this thanks loads. Happy new year!
Yes Chris , tougher indeed they are not having the stress notch factor as carbon does, one tiny chip and your likely doomed at some point! Would recommend though a fast glass /S glass type of material though, surprisingly good blank recovery. Taniwha rodworks does some v nice stuff at reasonable prices.Good to deal with too. Ref the river work, great, good man! I always love it...input in..output out ! Enjoy🤠
Hi there, I like to use a 5' thread furled leader with anything from 3 to 6 feet of tippet. This might be of interest ruclips.net/video/yLx4Hk6WUzY/видео.html
Hey Chris deleted my last message as it didn't make sense 😂🍷.......I was trying to say have you got a new nymph rod? I've ordered the vision hero. Not too expensive........as they accidentally sent just the rod tube without the rod, they sending it now and I've got 50 pound knocked off the price. The winters just seem to be flooded out these days though and grayling fishing non existent. Really getting hacked off with the weather big time.........let's hope we get a normal decent spring and not this silly bollocks of either being continually flooded out or drought conditions! All best for New Year.
Ha ha, Carl, I've been trying to send this but kept getting an error message. Now I know why🤣 It might have been yourself, Carl, but I saw someone on the fly fishing forum had opened their rod tube christmas day to find it empty! Still £50 credit isn't a bad result 👍 It appears everywhere is suffering with high water this year. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing for our rivers? They do benefit from a flush but not constantly! Still debating on the rod, I need to sort out my Duchy ticket and commit to a 9 or 10 footer for the high Moor. You'll have to let me know how the vision casts a fly line.
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Happened to more than one of us then!! Yes I will let you know regards the vision. I did have enough for and debated getting the nymphmaniac, but I'm afraid spending 300 plus on a rod just seems silly to me. Vision hero hopefully be good for delicate dryfly too. But getting a purpose built euro nymph rod, I'm hoping it improves my nymph fishing, as I'm a pretty competent dryfly angler but seem pretty crap when it comes to the nymph!
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724PS ......Chris if you say you could do with a shorter rod than 10 ft, have a look at the Guideline LPS rods......they have a 9 foot 6 inch for a 2 weight only 120 at Uttings!!! It's meant to be a cracking rod for both dry and nymph. I was going to get it, but I fish the Dee as well as small rivers like you so thought I needed to get a longer 10 ft rod..........if you only fish small rivers I think you should seriously consider it and 120 special price to get a lovely 2 weight rod is a very sensible price

Really a very beautiful small river for fishing 😅 and a great joy to watch over christmas and no-fishing season
An unexpected Christmas present! Many thanks Chris.

What a glorious stream! :-)
Hi Chris. missed the videos in the off season, so great to see this on Xmas day. Roll on March 3rd
Cheers Peter, we have to wait until the 15th down here!

A nice escape from the harsh realities of the festive season Chris! 😁😁
Merry Christmas, Fred, I thought there might be a few people who would enjoy a reminder of last season👍
Has your local river recovered yet?

Great video. It has warmed up a very cold Boxing Day.
Glad to hear it Geoffrey, thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Chris …compliments of the season to you mate …hope the jolly man in the red suit found his way to you …hang in there spring is coming 👍👍
I did get a nice Wychwood river and stream reel to match my rod👍 Not that I needed another reel, of course, but hey, it is christmas 😀

Hi Chris, not long till the start again! Looking forward to getting back on the Dartmoor rivers. Nice video!
Yes, I must get back on the Duchy this season, I liked the look of the Blackabrook (or Blackbrook if you prefer) from your last forum post.
Nice idea indeed! Thanks and Christmas greetings all round!
Merry Christmas Michael, roll on next season👍
Thanks for more great footage Chris . All the best for the New Year
