There are lots of hotels there is because Setiawan famous for its padi field and fishing village which you don't find it in the town. This town has a rich history of the Chinese Christian and various religion building of worship. There are also cottages industry etc. Very sadly, these places are not within your walking reach unless you can find some transport. its so sad that you opin there isn't much there.

Sitiawan is famous for its kampung koh chili sauce. Do visit the sitiawan museum, st francis della sales church, the old town and kampung koh chili sauce museum. The town is also a very quiet and peaceful one.
But honestly, try other towns like kampar and papan with more history - papan was one of the most active site of tin mining and one of the most brutally affected in ww2 by the Japanese
Not the most inspiring of places stu, but sometimes you get lucky lobbing up in random places so you never know? I travelled in Malaysia 20 odd years ago. It was ok but not somewhere i would rush back to! Is India in your plans this trip? Very cheap & backpacker friendly although a bit of a 'challenge ' at times😂 im off to south India in jan for a couple of months. Enjoy the rest of ur time in Malaysia.
Not sure about where ASDA fit into the supermarket pecking order, but wasn't the prestige supermarket chain Waitrose? On the London tube I used to overhear folks boasting they "shopped at Waitrose today", like it elevated their position in society, rather than people like me who bought our stuff at Tesco cos they were the cheapest...
Think you will get a new zest when you hit Thailand, and you dont need to be back in the UK to buy clothes and im sure Bangkok has somewhere to buy a new camera that isnt too expensive and think how grim the North of England will be in Jan/Feb
Pangkor, hire a bike or you will see little of the island. (You can ride a scooter around it in about 20-30 minutes). The whole deposit in cash thing annoys the hell out of me, it's usually Rm50 - So I wreck the room and Rm50 is gonna cover it? I am at a place in Melaka tomorrow I booked on line and they do everything online. I refused to pay via bank as I know they will be slow with the refund, if at all. So, they have to send someone to meet me to get the cash, instead of saying forget it. Even though their video showing how to check in says foreigners don't need to pay, they insisted we do.. As for OYO they screwed me over once, so I will never used them again.
Yes go to lumut too before or after pangkor... It is navy based town. 3 of my cousin live in sitiawan. Nothing much there except many decades ago they work on palm oil Estate and today many more on factory based job. But a bit out of town still in sitiawan u can go to "teluk batik" and "pantai tanjung kepah" and enjoy the white sand beach and nice scenery on photo/video especially sunset but not for swimming and further a bit u can find historical "old fort" name "kota lama" If u were visited the tower in telok intan, there is also a chinese temple that look alike that tower in setiawan called Tua Pek Kong Temple. It is facing ocean too.. Of u love how old days history how people live during early days and it is still in setiawan, you can visit Sitiawan Settlement Museum especially people that u mentioned that came from fuchow china Unfortunately they all are not by walking distance eventho they are in sitiawan.. But still u can watch street art at medan Bauhinia, Taman Bauhinia.. Usually small place like this, the town only kept for business, food and daily routines. Nothing much.. Enjoy
You are right. Malaysia is not made for tourists. It is made to cater to foreign migrant workers who are working from all over South East Asia including Thailand, from South Asia, Central Asia, Middle East, Africa, South America and from East Europe including Russia. There are estimated 3 million illegals and a million who are working in Malaysia on tourist or student visa..
It's not boring. It is the reality of the locals. If they are happy, the place will be fine. As always.
hi!! welcome! im staying in sitiawan.
"Theres a rock that could be interesting" famous last words 😂😂 good effort though
It was more interesting from a distance than next to it!!!

You could have gone behind the Cinema Hall and rested at the small park there. It has some benches with a large tree providing some shade.
Sitiawan my born and growing up place. Nothing really interesting there in the sitiawan town center unless you move a bit to lumut and pangkor.

I am Mr Safety Man :)
Was there 2 years ago. Also lumut
I’ll be heading to Lumut after the island :)
Some towns is just a place to live. It might have hidden gems for food though.

If you had used a tesco bag for washing you could have collected club card points and had a life of luxury.😂
