I was sick in the beginning of this build, now I've got a gnarly sinus infection from my wisdom teeth coming in. I have surgery scheduled for 1/15/2020 @ 8:00AM. Fingers crossed all goes well! I leave for Vegas just 3 short days after surgery.. I don't care much for IBS, only going to hang out w/ friends and talk at a few booths! Hey Matt I just wanted to put an appreciation comment down here and I just want to say that I subscribed like a week ago and have went back and watched every video I have like 10 or 15 left but the reason I watch u so much is bc of ur content and the fact that your videos are a great Intro to the career path I want to run down Once again thank u for what u do!
You just said the same thing that I was always told on cutting hips and valleys the only time you use hip and valley is when you’re cutting a hip or a valley
It’s stuck in my head! Can’t tell you how many times I see guys cut stuff on a hip/valley and it’s meant to be a common. Too simple of a mistake to make! Once you know, it’s like riding a bike. 😊
A video on work efficiency would be really cool! Like a compilation of random tricks and tips with saws, tapes, chalk lines, scribing, finding angles, like how the fuck do I get accurate vertical measurements with my tape up against a ceiling or window well etc.. I always have to make it a little long then trim it to get that perfect fit... you look like you just eyeball everything perfect... skills...
Hay Matt good job 👍 good luck 😉 with the dentist 👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙hay I wish we had nice weather her in Australia 🇦🇺 Melbourne it’s all smoky over here good luck mad max
Thoughts are with you guys over there in Australia, are fires close to you? Stay safe out there! Dentist will go smooth, they made me sign a disclosure saying I wouldn't film or record audio in the surgery room. I'll definitely have cameras rolling as soon as i'm out! LOL
Looking to join the trade seems super exciting. Watching your videos makes me more anxious to start. Tomorrow I’ll be heading to my local union to start looking for sponsors. Wish me luck ahah 🤙🏽
Just a question, I've always been taught take your line hip cut and then another line 13/4 back on a 2x so that way it's just cut from one direction then cut from the other. Is there a reason your not doing this? I can see it's not a 2x but still the same concept would work just wondering
Excellent video as usual. Thanks. A question: It looks like your starter board is 2x and sheeting is 5/8. How do you address the difference in thickness or does that matter in this case?
That T&G has me thinking of changing my soffit detail on my own house I am drawing up. Are you going to be able to hide roofing fasteners from showing on the underside?
It looks like he dropped the rafters on the overhang just about 3/4" (if that's the thickness of the t&g ) and then sheeted over the t&g with plywood(or osb) typically about 1/2" ... so if you use 1" roofing nails on shingles they wouldn't penetrate the underside of the t&g nor would the appropriate length fastener if using other roof materials
Hey Matt I had to chuckle a little bit seeing how you are full blown successful custom framing contractor who has to leave the early for a dental appointment because your wisdom teeth are coming in. And I thought to myself "this bad mofo is still teething". LOL Malcolm from Oakland
I’d say my diamondback holster hooks and my hammer flies out more than his. I’d say I’ve seen his hammer fall out once, maybe twice.. In years! I have no idea how it stays in there, I really don’t have a clue.. It does somehow!
@@MattBangsWood thank you for the enlightenment, is was genuinely bothering me it goes against every thing about fitting in tight spaces as a framer. maybe we will understand how it stays in there when we get older lol.
They never really made good ones til this hitachi/metabo. I mean paslode was good but always would run out of gas when you were in a bind, the dewalt jammed like crazy and had to ramp up and the Milwaukee really wasn't up to par much either but this hitachi/metabo is just killing it. There's room for improvement but it does the job and truly does it well.
I’ve been a residential carpenter for about six years now doing exterior/interior remodeling but really wanna make the jump to to building/framing most ppl kinda make a sour face when I voice this any advice would appreciated
@@MattBangsWood I was referring to the close up view of the out of focus hornet flying right in front of the lens. For some reason hornets like the smell of sawdust.

How do u get that v cut at the bottom of your valley
Man, you are the only one with a video on this! I can’t believe it’s this easy. I was way overthinking it.
Man this build has been a blast to watch go up. Almost sad to see it end.

Hi Matt, the winery build is nearly complete.can't wait for the series.
I don’t know about you but that valley cut out was satisfying
I always wanted to see how to cut that. Thank you!
Good video Matt you were trained well good craftsmanship
why is watching wood get cut from a helmet cam sooooo satisfying?! Thanks again Matt!
Hi Matt. Wisdom teeth are always a challenge. The roof looks awesome. Enjoy the day. Ray L

Wish you a speed recovery, and come back stronger...💪Matt.!
Beautiful valley board cut , very rare to see that anymore
Folk music made my day
Quick recovery my friend!
I have a hard time taking you serious with those battery powered tools bang on matt
Jeff, I have a hard time taking myself serious too.. Feels a lot better with pneumatic guns and stronger saws!
Always so jealous of your weather haha. Building outside in Canada is not as fun during the winter

Valley look pretty good to me and Matt look like you done at a couple times!
We don’t get to do much of them out here, but definitely not the first! 😃
Could u layout a valley rafter step by step
Oopps... I finished watching the rest of the video and I figured it out.

I was so int watching this that bee scared the hell out of me!
Yooo!! At 8:14 did anyone see 2 bees smack into each other and fall to the ground?!? Hahah that was amazing!
Also, great great work! Love the vids
Excellent video as usual. Thanks. A question: It looks like your starter board is 2x and sheeting is 5/8. How do you address the difference in thickness or does that matter in this case?
All of our lookouts, corbels, etc were dropped 1-1/8” to make the T&G flush out with trusses. That way sheathing goes right over the top smoothly.
I noticed you have flameblock on them outside walls. What’s your opinion on that heavy stuff.
What’s up with the orange wall studs?
Engineered maybe??
Hope you feel better nothing like your mouth hurting!!
Surgery this Wednesday.. I couldn’t be happier. Unfortunately I’ll be out of it for a day or two!
How did you know the length of the saws bevel? To make your 45 meet at a point.
Are you still liking your buckaroo set up or did you stop using it?
That T&G has me thinking of changing my soffit detail on my own house I am drawing up. Are you going to be able to hide roofing fasteners from showing on the underside?

Floating hip or fly hip? Which term do yall use in California to combine ridges?
zombielicious2 broken hip
do a video out of your dentist appointment :D
Would love to work with a great team like yours!
Come to Germany when you Want to work with professionell
Could u layout a valley rafter? And do it step by step?
How's that hummingbird around 8 mins haha work is all pro as always
Why do your tails sit below your facia top edge?
Probably for the sheathing to run over everything. Hard to tell
Because the tails and facia is at a plumb cut , plywood will terminate on the valley board and end of facia
beatiful.,.,chanel gretings froom argentina
I just want to know how you layout a valley rafter
I note you always leave the heel of the saw up when you start your cuts. Is that for better control or to put less stress on the saw when cutting?
So it won't jerk his cut/blade when ever the heel settles and ending up with a crooked cut.
Can your saw be any longer
Nice work Mat. Incredible skills!
What type of wood were the rough sawn dummies?

I noticed in the beginning of the video your mid span blocks in the shear wall behind your blocks are staggered why is that?
I use a lefty saw all day and go hone to use my righty. Its confusing. The devils hand tools.
Good mate!
Which state?
The 1st 5 12 valley cut u made wat is it called ?? Its like the opposite of a bullnose
DEMO LITION double cheek-cut
Man If we were up on the roof and not tied off . I couldn’t afford the fines here. There like hawks looking for food
what part of town is this?
this has been bothering me for a while now Matt, how often does your fathers hammer fall out of that back pouch?
I’d say my diamondback holster hooks and my hammer flies out more than his.
I’d say I’ve seen his hammer fall out once, maybe twice.. In years! I have no idea how it stays in there, I really don’t have a clue.. It does somehow!

Yow mat my name is Cesar I need some help on a California roof over a bay window brother wondering if you can help me out how can I contact you

That's backwards in my opinion. I framed houses for many years, now I remodel and paint, I dont miss it.
Kinda what I’ve been getting must ppl are like why would you wanna do that ? Mainly the knowledge you know
@@roogq4214 yeah the knowledge is good but it's hard work and doesnt pay well, atleast here in texas it doesnt.
7:59 Close up view of nothing but trouble if it goes up your pants leg.
That angle was odd, saw was very far away from the body! Nowhere near the leg, I saw it when I edited it, looked close.
