    I returned to a location I haven't flown from for a while as I really wanted to see how well DJI digital would handle the low river run I used to fly regularly on 1.3g video (all footage is DVR recorded in the goggles, there was no on board recording). On board is a standard Caddx Air Unit running 1200mw in 50mbps. There are places where VLOS is blocked by land or trees so I knew the picture would get bad in places. I have to say the more I use DJI the more it’s impressed me! Personally I think it did very well on this route, and that picture low to the ground at 10/11km is still so clear! It's also worth noting that Crossfire worked really well too considering I am using one of the floppy free antennas that come with the nano rx... and it's mounted amongst a lot of electronics. Let me know what you thought watching this... did DJI do better or worse than you expected? And please remember to leave a reaction before you leave. Thanks 😃

I have about 10 flights with it, and can go as far as 4km, limited by the fact our club strip is surrounded by a lot of trees...must try on a more open area to test next time! too bad I lost a brand new Funjet flying FPV with a DJI O3, video transmission and GPS position had been lost at the same time, and no RTH...now I always fly with a Microtrak beacon!

    Very impressive Adam. Watching home arrow, terrain, and altitude had more brain spinning, attempting to understand the LOS for VTx signal. Would be cool to see a elevation cross section of path flown, but that would be way too much effort. It did look like flew across a valley, with negative altitudes, but yet there still appeared hills between plane and home (at 6-9 km out).
    Like the video drop-out effect at 3:52. The loss of colour, contrast is much preferable to frame freezing, or binary snow.
    BTW: Think I recognize that bridge (2:53) from a previous video. ;)

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  Год назад +1

      Hey, yeah there are definitely times where LOS is broken and I’m surprised the video didn’t instantly drop. 6-9km there is a raised part of land between me and the plane so that’s where it gets quite tricky. Doing an elevation profile is actually really easy on google earth, just not easy to share in the comments here. DJI is definitely quite clever in the way it handles image break up as I always assumed when it first came out that the screen would just freeze up and drop a lot of frames. Yeah that bridge is the one that I passed under in my other video… I always wanted to attempt the pass under from the place I launched in this video but video gets really bad once you get down to river level at that point, even on 1.3g 😅 cheers

  • @Rcschim

    Cool flight. I'm always thinking about where to fly next to have longest possible runs of cool "lines" low to the ground over trees and rivers. A higher start place of course helps. Love things like the wind display in inav now. Wonder how the code calcs the wind. Gives me more and more confidence with my planes to go out further. Have the same antennas on gv2 and use them for o3 and vistas.

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  Год назад

      Thanks 😁 I’m the same, looking for places I can launch and get a good low line for following a trail or river, it’s the most fun flying! I use google maps/earth to search for places like this.
      I do like the new wind speed/direction feature, I fact it was one of my favourite additions in iNav 6. Darren Lines did a video about it, some clever guy worked on the calculations and it’s apparently quite accurate. I think it requires you to change heading every now and then to remain accurate.
      I do like this antenna setup. Hard to beat TrueRC antennas. Thanks for watching 🙌🏻😃

  • @lesjack137
    @lesjack137 Год назад

    I watched the 1.3 vid at the time and didn't expect the DJI system to perform anything like as well. As an early adopter, I'm on V1 goggles and have an average of around 5-6km range when flying with a mate, also on V1, max was 5 miles/ 8km. I find the range is variable, but reconnects better on 25mbps. We should try more separation where we are seated. Mad Angler suggests the max range to be:
    the O3 range limit on both V2 and goggles 2 is 23.4km.
    DJI FPV AU and Vista range limit on V1 and V2 is 13km.
    DJI FPV AU and Vista on Goggle 2 with the “O3” firmware the limit is 30km.
    Be interesting to repeat with stock antennas to see what impact the True RC ones have. The suggestion from early testing some years back was not a huge amount.
    Another good flight and video.

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  Год назад

      Hi Les, I was also impressed with how well DJI held out on this route. If you're flying with a buddy on DJI we find you get the best results if you lower the output power to 500 or 700 and give yourself good physical separation between each other. Using high power or standing close to each other produces worse results.
      The stats you quote are interesting. I knew the first 2 but I had never heard of the 1st gen gear (AU and Vista) running on O3 FW. I have a set of goggle 2 but haven't had chance to fly with them yet, but looking forward to trying them out.
      I feel like I did notice a good difference between stock antennas and Truerc in the early days, I flew a low route along the top of a hill just 3km away and on the stick antennas the image broke up a little but with the TrueRC it was clear the whole time.
      Cheers

      If I may ask, are there any downsides about flashing the DJI FPV AU or Vista with ˋO3´ firmware? Will they still work with Goggles V2 and ˋtextfile power mod´?
      Also I’m considering WTFOS for my Goggles V2 for the nice OSD… can I still use audience mode with that, so friends can share my feed on their Goggles V2 ?

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  11 месяцев назад

      @@TheAtariJoe If when you say the 'O3 FW' I assume you mean the FW that makes the old AU and Vista compatible with the Goggle 2. If so, then yes there are downsides. The vista and AU will no longer work with the goggle V2. The NACA power hack will no longer work but you can use the FCC hack which works on the O3. Also they will be stuck in low power mode until they receive an arming command from the FC (which is bad news of you're running a plane without an FC).

Can't wait to test the range with the O3 on my swordfish and the Crossfire as well, can't believe a so small crossfire nano rx can be trusted for long range, what power do you select on your Tx module? As I understand it, the main merit here is the TrueRC X²-AIR antennas?
    I also like to fly low and far, but after 1.5 km my bitrate begins to drop. If I buy patches with a gain of 10dbi, will I be able to fly in the same style, but over a shorter distance of 5-7 km?

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  9 месяцев назад

      Yes the key to flying further and lower is higher gain antennas (good quality ones at that). In theory yes if you get higher gain patches you can fly lower and further, but there are also other factors involved such as the terrain, your setup and noise in the area. If you break LOS you will lose your image fairly quickly with it being 5.8. Good luck :)

      From my point of view WS is terrible at this sort of flying compared to DJI. But I need to be honest and say I have only tried WS using the external Rx with stock antennas. That said, I can fly low out to 7km at a certain location with Omnis only on my DJI v2 goggles. At the same location with the stock WS setup I'm lucky to get 3km at high altitude. At 1km out WS gets pretty poor for me. Low altitude I have no chance. Maybe stock antennas are bad? I'm sure others have had way more success than me with WS... Don't take this as the definitive answer, but this is my experience which is also matched by my fling buddy who was all in on WS until he couldn't fly the routes I was. He switched to DJI and problem solved.

    I thought you done really well considering you was probably going behind trees or obstacle’s. At that distance I am very surprised that your break up was so minimal. So well done and keep educating us all. 👍

      Thanks 😎 Was definitely behind trees and other obstacles during parts of the flight so I was really impressed with how well it did. Very fe of my flights require 1.3g video these days 😳

      @@AdamGdoesFPV ye Adam I have noticed that you are not doing as much on the 1.3 stuff. It is a bit of a faff setting it up compared to just switching your goggles on and throwing your plane in the air. Might get some of those True rc Directional Antennas that you used. I use the Chrystal patch but not as good as the results at low altitude you was getting.

    Nice, was wondering: You do not fly 1.3 anymore?

      I do have a couple of 1.3g planes still but for 95% of my flying DJI works perfectly. In fact it's allowing me to fly lower than I used to because I'm not worried so much about hitting a tree I didn't see until the last second. Next year might be my last season with 1.3g actually... we'll see.

      Thanks, I never thought that 5.8 that can be even distributed by fog could compete with 1.3 . Will try my dji v1 with 4 directional antennas who knows maybe it can fly as low as 1.3 , never tried before.

    This video alone sold me on this plane! Question tho, did you laminate this plane or are you flying it out of the box ?

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  10 месяцев назад

      Didn't laminate. Got it out the box, added DJI AU, Crossfire nano and a lipo and it's ready to throw.

      @@AdamGdoesFPV ok awesome thanks, any reason you prefer crossfire to ELRS? I used to run crossfire but I can’t ever find their stuff in stock
