YES purple mangosteen is really delicious! Fun facts: 1. You could know how much wedges indide the fruit without opening it. Just look at the bottom of the fruit and you'll see a flower like pattern there. The "petals" shows how many wedges inside the fruit. Take a look at 7:53 2. Open the mangosteen with bare hands by putting the fruit in between the bottom palm of your hands and squeeze/crush it. It's a little bit messy but will get the job done 3. The rind of this fruit is insanely famous in Indonesia as a medicine and become a meme here because of the overly done advertising 😂

I've tried mangosteen three times. All of them were rock hard and had to be smashed open, and most of them were rotten on the inside. The ones that were not had no flavour to them at all. That's what it's like eating exotic fruits in Sweden 😆 I really hope i could taste a good specimen one of these days, because everyone seems to love them.
I tried mine in spain(a market near a mall on the outskirts of barcelona)... Most of them tasted fine. Sweet, but bland. Not really a specific taste.. like weak perfume...
Always stay away from mangosteens that are hard or have a brown stem. I think your best bet would obviously be to go to somewhere warmer preferably in Southeast Asia where they are very abundant and cheap. I personally believe they are well worth the expense of a plane ticket.

While watching, I had a serious think about my top Five (no, 6) favourite fruits/nuts. 6: Paw-Paw (Papaya). Because it was the first 'tropical' fruit that I had first tatsed from a grocer and it was not sweet. People said to sprinkle it with sugar to bring out the sweetness. Then I got to taste them ripe from the tree in Cedar Bay. The difference is insane! Sweet, juicy and nothing like the box-ripened store-bought ones. 5: Macadamia nuts. Because I remember as a kid, sitting under what we used to call 'Queensland Nuts' or 'Bauple Nuts' tress with a brick and a hammer, cracking the shells and eating them raw until we were stuffed. 4: Coconut. Because it was a staple of my diet for many months in Cedar Bay. 3: Mangosteen. Because I first tasted them in the wild (in Cedar Bay). 2:Cedar Bay Cherry because I first tasted them IN Cedar Bay in Far North Queensland where they are endemic and grow in patches that can be an acre in area. I lived there at the end of the hippy days in the very early 80s. 1: Loquats (must be ripe) because they were everywhere when I was a child in Brisbane Australia.
Thanks. i live in Cambodia and was checking to see if it is safe to juice the fruit with the seed and it looks like a few seeds going through my juicer wont hurt me.

Glad it was helpful!
I've always eaten the seeds and i buy kilos at a time because in Perth Australia they're only available for a few weeks a year which sucks cause the good ones are so good. But are $30+ a kilo super expensive ridiculous considering like avocado a tree producers a ridiculous amount of fruit
I really like these reviews of trying all parts of the fruit! I used to save seeds for arts and crafts.
The Queen of fruits and a most elegant tree.
Your funny and I like your videos. And your spot on, first time bought a mangosteen at a Asian store very little inside some bwn spots and I was putting what I could salvage in a smoothie. Yes I’ll chk Miami fruit I want to use it for it’s properties. Now I’m interested in fruit that helps weight loss. So how to use the Cambodian rhind ?
I've found to open them the best way is to remove the stem, then put in your palm and squeeze horizontally. It will crack open easy.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Thank you Weird Explorer!
So it turns out the kids at the lemonade stand on my block have been selling mangosteen tea this whole time.
If the lemon juice made it turn pink the purple chemical in the rind might be a PH indicator like the one you find in purple cabbages and purple sweet potatoes!
Lemon juice can also turn some black teas reddish! It's neat. Very probably due to the acidity.
lol the cat's "excuse me wtf is this" reaction to the top was priceless
7:59 boil it instead and drink the water you used to, something like tea
Your so funny with the faces you make when tasting parts you didn't like 😂😂😂 you made me laugh 😅
I think it’s almost like rubarb and strawberry’s. I’ve had jammy tasting ones and sour ones so delicious
Tried those in Bali organic off the tree very yum
These vids r the only thing that numbs the pain
You even made the teas!! You're amazing! And kept me laughing the whole time
I'm so glad!
Hi Sir.
Yesterday I was eating the mangosteen.
For the first time.
From Suriname
Did you order the small box mangosteen or large? About how many came in the box? Thank you.
In India, especially Goa and the south regions they use mangosteen rind for cooking, it’s called “kokum” there
I think that the rind would come from a different species called Garcinia indica
Thanks. i live in Cambodia and was checking to see if it is safe to juice the fruit with the seed and it looks like a few seeds going through my juicer wont hurt me.
You should try Lilly Pilly fruit and Acrotriche depressa berries
