Flipper 1964 - 1967 Opening and Closing Theme (With Snippet)

- Flipper, from Ivan Tors Films in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Television, is an American television program first broadcast on NBC from September 19, 1964, until April 15, 1967. Flipper, a bottlenose dolphin, is the companion animal of Porter Ricks, Chief Warden at fictional Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve in southern Florida, and his two young sons Sandy and Bud.
The show has been dubbed an "aquatic Lassie", and a considerable amount of juvenile merchandise inspired by the show was produced during its first-run. The television show is an adaptation of the 1963 film Flipper starring Chuck Connors and Luke Halpin as Porter and Sandy Ricks, and its 1964 sequel, Flipper's New Adventure, where Brian Kelly took over the role of Porter.
In adapting the films to a television series, the producers made Porter a single parent and gave him a second son named Bud, played by Tommy Norden. The producers departed yet again from the films in endowing Flipper with an unnatural degree of intelligence and an extraordinary understanding of human motives, behavior, and vocabulary. - Развлечения
Thank you so much. My little brother was so intrigued by this show. When he was in his 20s he went to Florida to build boats. He sent me a cookie jar that made the flipper sound. He passed away in his late 20s from a bad heart valve. This theme song is my little brothers ❤️
May God bless you and your family mate. You WILL be with him again. Love from SSSam7 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬 AUSTRALIA. Right now, he's frolicking with the dolphins xx
❤
I am so sorry, Flipper and other serials will always remind me the afterschool afternoons with my parents, God Bless.
❤️
Is that so? Then don't watch scientifically accurate dolphin
Today’s kids are deprived of their innocence. Wish there was a show like this. No snide remarks aimed at one another. What a concept.
A bit of a passive aggressive implication there.. Not like it's the kids fault the generations of adults before them failed
@@Azmina_the_warlock Its more the corporations fault. And the internet. And the agenda to fragment our society from what used to be a homogenous culture.

I couldn't wait for Saturdays when there wasn't no school, and Flipper had aired me, and my sibling would sit right in front of the tv to watch Flipper. That was the best childhood any children could have.
"and there wasn't no school"
sounds like that happened far too often.
Kids programming is great for weekends
Such a happy and joyful memories of my childhood. So nostalgic. I miss it alot. 🌹 🌹 🌹
Qutub Hashmi its gone. long gone.
Qutub Hashmi Yes I know such happy memories of my childhood too🐬 a good clean family show, I remember when my children were younger in the early 90s they were showing Flipper on a cable channel that’s was showing all the TV shows of the 60 and 70s my kids loved it.
Yes me to...most people then had better morals and more patriotic.
Did you know that dolphin committed suicide in film shoots? Flipper. Yes, I love Flipper, too, but these facts are very hurting.
@@asyacerenunal5375 not during film shoots but when she was kept alone in a pen after the show finished.
I loved this show as a kid, its so wonderful to hear the theme song again of this show.
I loved it as I child and I still do in 2023, beautiful memories
I don't get tired of watching it over and over, it's if it's like bringing a part of the m with us.
The song makes me both happy and sad. Happy because the 60’s were a great time to grow up in for me. While the 70’s was too sad in many ways for me. I loved this show very much
The music has just wiped 50 years from me. Thanks, greetings from Australia.
I can remember the ABC showing repeats of this during school holidays along with shows like Superman (1950's) and Beachcombers.
You had a kangaroo named Skippy. He could pilot a hot air balloon, something Flipper could only accomplish in his dreams.
I'm from Australia too, and remember watch and loving this show.
Just one thing puzzled me -- occasionally they would have a Kookaburra laughing in the background of this show, but it was set in Florida ??
😊🐬👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😊
@@peterpiper831 Kingfisher. Although they used a lot of sweetening tracks recorded all over the world. Like the peacocks in every jungle scene in any given movie.
Back in about 1966 I wanted to be Bud Ricks! What a life; living on a marine preserve in the Florida Keys, SCUBA diving, driving boats, running around barefoot in a pair of cutoffs and frolicking with a pet dolphin. What's not to like?
I wanted to be Race Bannon!
@@692ALBANNACH Race was awesome...Dr. Quest was all brains but Race could thump heads....and that name: "Race".!

I haven't seen this for probably 25 years. All I could remember was "They call him Flipper, Flipper"... what a blast from the past.
Flipper, the Lassie of the seas.
I miss it a lot., today’s kids are deprived of their innocence. I wish there was a show like this. Flipper .
As a farm kid in Nebraska I often dreamed about what it would like to live like these guys. During the cold Nebraska winter nights, watching them having fun and adventure in the warm waters of Florida.
Yes but there were always the sharks to worry about.
I use to watch this when it was new and I was young, back about a million years ago.
And they still don't feel old!
You and me both! I loved this show!
Not only a million years ago but also like on a different planet!!!
I saw this in reruns back in the 1970's. Just love Flipper, the Miami Dolphins football team has a mascot named Flipper.
I went to a private Christian School in the 90s and after classes were over for the day, we'd watch a re-run of Flipper while waiting for our parents to pick us up. Just a random but sweet childhood memory.
In all of my dreams, I live the life that Sandy Ricks and Bud Ricks have in Florida with Flipper and we go on very magical adventures in the oceans of Florida.
I’m and 80’s baby so in the late 80s and early 90s I would watch all the old shows from the 50s & 60s on Nickelodeon. I miss those days .
Feeling so nostalgic. They dont make em like this any more

How sad this is when I think about the good wholesome people back then and what freaks and animals we have today. Its sad to think about the losses we have suffered in society. I grew ip with flipper. Know the song to this day.
I totally agree with you. I loved hearing the theme. I used to watch this show all the time. TV shows were so much better back then.
@@carolynfabiano8511 I agree things have gotten much worse in the last 50 years but there certainly were freaks and animals at this time as well. Do you recall Charles Manson?? US Society and values really started falling apart around the mid-60's when the free love and hippie movements started. Drugs started becoming a lot more main stream and race relations were still pretty poor. Of course much of this has only continued to worsen and at a seemingly alarming rate in the last 15-20 years.
Douglas R Yes I agree with you I also grew up watching it as well, Flipper was a good, clean family show that you don’t see any more. I saw reruns of Flipper on a cable channel. Did anyone else ever think about how different the show would have been if the dolphin were named Buttnut instead of Flipper?
I remember back in the 80s and early 90s when Flipper was on Nickelodeon at 5 AM. If I couldn't sleep, I got up to watch it before going to school.
Lol same . I was having the same nostalgic thoughts

I loved this show as a child. Now, I just recently returned from a vacation in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, and there are adventure companies that take people out doing different activities. I opted for swimming with the dolphins. I got to live a childhood fantasy and swam with a dolphin, or rather he swam with me holding on, plus I got "kisses" on my cheek and we did a little dance holding his fins! It was so much fun, and I got to cross off something from my childhood bucket list! I just had to hear this theme song again from childhood. What a beautiful memory, both then and now.
😊😢🐬🌊🐬
I only was born in 2003 but my two favorite shows growing up were Flipper and Gilligan’s Island
This actually made me cry good old memories
You know, as dark as this opening is, this is actually pretty fantastic camera work for 1960s.
In the 1960s, when I watched this, I had a crush on Brian Kelly...but Flipper was good too!
Hard to imagine that parts of FLORIDA were really once like this, a great place for a child to grow up in. Same with the Andy Griffith show. Not the whole world mind you, some places like this really did . Hopefully they are not forever lost.
Summers growing up in the 60s everyday sunny

Okay I have to ask.
How does a dolphin commit suicide??
If this show aired in 2020 it would spark nothing but internet outrage.

Yes a show with a single father!
The children would be wearing make up and we would have no idea what their gender was.
And the children would be constantly talking about the environment and how the world is about to end.
What, these days, doesn't spark Internet outrage?
I used to be so jealous of the Ricks. Wake up and right outside your door there’s a dock and a tropical sea with a friendly dolphin waiting to play!
It went on Danish tv in the late 70's, loved every minute of it. I believe it made me into an ocean lover. At this day we live by the sea, and dive every spare minute we got. A fantastic series with a lot of happy feelings an knowledge about the ocean. THX for sharing and caring ;-)
I loved watching this on Saturday mornings in the late 70’s. I sand the theme Song to my kids when they were young.
What a great show. I had forgotten how much I liked it.

YOU WERE A CHILD BACK THEN.
So you probably weren't aware of how incredibly divided the country was with civil rights and the Vietnam War and the generation gap back in the 1960s.
I used to watch this as a kid. I had forgotten about this show.
LOVE Bud and Sandy. I miss this show
Being born in the 60s for a black person was suppose to be trying times with race relations, but I find that those were actually the good old days smh, what’s going on?
Even the theme songs were better in the 60’s and 70’s.
Memories! I watched this show a lot, but the girl next door (same age as I was) was into Flipper everything - coloring books, the works. Her brother was my best friend, and when I was in about 4th grade, sometimes he and I would be getting ready to do stuff together and I'd be wanting or expecting his sister to come along too, but he'd just say "she has to stay and watch Flipper, Flipper", while singing the opening notes of the song.
The theme son is catchy and beautiful. 🐬🐬👏🏼👏🏼
My childwood. Flipper and Skippy.
This show taught me to respect life in all of of its forms which people today are sadly lacking😢
You are so right.

Just pray they don't make a remake. Imagine how ghastly it would be.
A revival of the iconic 1964 TV series entitled "Flipper - The New Adventures" was attempted in 1995, but didn’t attract much attention. The first two seasons aired in syndication. Seasons 3 and 4 aired on the PAX network.
Flipper - The New Adventures was set in a town named Bal Harbor, somewhere in the Florida Keys. In reality, the show’s first three episodes were filmed in Pigeon Key, Florida and at the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key, Florida. The balance of the show was actually filmed in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
In 1996, Universal Pictures also attempted a motion picture adaptation entitled "Filpper." It starred Elijah (Lord of the Rings) Wood as Sandy Ricks, and Paul (Crocodile Dundee) Hogan as Porter Ricks. Interestingly, Luke Halpin, the original Sandy Ricks, had a bit part as a fisherman.
Probably Rihanna would be cast to perform an SJW Flipper.

Back in the late 1970's, I tried my hand at being an IT recruiter. I got a job at an IT search firm and when I started working there, I discovered that Tom Norden worked there, too. Yes, Tommy Norden, of Flipper fame, worked at that search firm. He sat next to me. Everyone called him Flippy. He didn't care much for that. He went on to open his own IT search firm. I quit after one week because I hated it.
I remembered the lyrics to this song 50 years later... I loved this show as a kid.
Im 31 so sure this guy is old now.But Luke Haplin was freaking adorable! Omg such a attractive guy!
I love this little show as a kid.
A 80s kid growing up watching all the classics and now my daughter is turning 6 and I've been trying to get her more into these classic TV shows and 70s and 80s cartoons. She seems to enjoy them especially, Roadrunner & Coyote and almost all the Looney Tunes characters. I wish television producers and writer's would go back and create shows like they once did.
Omg! Flipper! Forgot about this show :(
I drive a tiller motor on boat nowadays and it always reminds of Flipper.
OMG, what wonderful memories. 😢
Used to watch this when I was eight years young. Long long ago😊.
I used to watch this every day with my aunt every day after she came home from high school
Back in the days when all boys were named either Tommy,, Bobby or Billy.
Yup! Now they are Ian, Trevor, Josh and De'Angelo
Now they are all called Mohammad
I guess that's why my parents named me THOMAS. Lol.
As a retired school teacher, I laugh about the 'unique' names hung on kids today, and a lament the demise of sturdy names like Michael, John, David and James . . . Tommy, Bobby and Billy too.
I remember watching Flipper in 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe in the 80’s
Although this is TV, the show had the feel of a Motion Picture. The cinematography was awesome. The music and vibe was very ‘Disney’. And the boys with their New York accents. Norden’s was especially pronounced and he seemed a natural comedic actor (e.g. facial expressions). reminds me now of the ‘Our Gang/Little Rascals’ comedies. TV today has lost so much of it’s innocence. Thank you for posting. Now I need to point out that this intro demo is not the complete collection. It only includes the later episodes. It would be great if you could upload the earlier seasons. A shot there is of Tommy Norden getting his face licked by a puppy when his credits are shown. Such a marvelous series I watched as a kid and still do.
America was so rich in that period that TV shows were on 35mm film stock and 16mm stock hence why some of them looked like a movie.

The music for the classic "Flipper" song was written by Henry Vars, who was actually a very distinguished Jewish composer who managed to survive during WWII in Poland and emigrated to the US after the war. He scored a number of movies and composed symphonies and popular songs and worked at MGM in the 1960s. The lyrics were by William D. "By" Dunham who wrote songs and lyrics and was also a producer.
