It's really creative use of auto tune, i read interpretations that it's deliberate because the song is about setting himself free from everything that's restraining him. Remember Filter song? How it's about whatever image fans want of him, he can be that persona. So it's like he has different voices inside him, different personas he created but at the end of the day there is a core him, a real him. Which we saw at the end of the MV after being stripped of everything

So many antis are saying it’s because he “can’t sing” but it’s SO purposefully used as a vocal effect because you can hear the contrast between him singing “normally” and when the rapping parts come in. It makes the song feel so eerie! It feels like a “tug of war” between both sides. It goes very well with the title of the song. Very smart!
