I don't know if anyone has expressed the same, but this song is Jimin's poetic/artistic expression of his journey -- the pains, the struggles, the tensions. Its his story as BTS and as Jimin the solo artist. The musical arrangement with the choir singing, the distortion -- all of that match the lyrics and the choreo (fingers pointing at him & him going down & up the spiral). ALL of it recreates and conveys his story. He is finally free. The music halts, and Jimin appears in white. It's not my usual genre, but how can you not be enthralled by such artistic masterpiece.

Nod to Yoongi's Set Me Free single from his mixtape, reiterating lyrics from BTS On "got to go insane to stay sane" and parallels of being set free from BTS 'golden cage' (trapped in the idol image & everything that goes with the life of an idol which may restrict them from being their full selves). Lots of interpretation about being set free - can be about Jimin's personal struggles ie letting go of all his doubts and uncertainties The orchestral arrangement and background choir gives this song a powerful impact. I think he always been so strong in being himself, not following the norms and going his own way, early on saying "men this and men that, what the heck is men?" when some were commenting that he shouldn't do certain things because he is a man and I was so moved when he said he had stopped trying to appear like a "strong man" and just could be himself now and talked to his former self saying he was proud of his younger self but "hurry up and become me".

No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this makes me that much more excited, waiting in anticipation for release of the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” on March 24, along with his other, main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Finally able to show & unleash his true self that, that was restricted in the confines of BTS. Required to just showing a vulnerable side, which he’s not! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self, will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! Roscoe that dance formation shape is Nature's Golden Ratio. Yes it has elements of Yin & Yang, Light & Dark. AND your head went totally in the right direction! All nature's shapes starts from this shape like you said a shell 🐚 and ferns 🌿 and embryos 👶 you totally got it! Note as he comes out of the formation he says 'Fly away, Butterfly' 🦋 another of Nature's Golden Ratios. It also represents metamorphosis which happens with Butterflies. Let's talk about the panopticon symbolism of this set design! The panopticon was a late 18th century prison design with the cells lining the perimeter of a rotunda and facing inward to a central guard tower where a single guard himself was stationed concealed. That's the set design for this MV! The idea was prisoners never new if they were being watched or not, so they would self-regulate their behavior on the chance they were being watched. It also meant most prisoners could see each other at all times, so everyone was both the watched and the watcher. Fast forward to the 1970s and a philosopher named Foucault who applied this principle to society at large, and nowadays also applied to social media behaviors. The way we act, our expectations for ourselves based on assuming expectations from others becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as we're all feeding into and off of each other. This adds SO much context and meaning to the story Jimin is telling here. He has at time felt imprisoned, couldn't be his true self because of always being watched, tried to live and present himself based on expectations. He tries to break free of his inner demons and naysayers and everyone watching him (the other dancers) and do something a little different (notice a lot of ballet positions with his footwork and alternate choreo and tempo compared with the other dancers) but every time he's free of them, they drag him back into their swarm. Near the end, it feels like everyone lifting him up should be a good thing, they're literally praising him (matching the choir singing Glory at various times) but still ultimately grabbing at him, trying to take a piece of him, until his finally breaks free once and for all. Thank you for this great reaction. This song and the video are pure genius. I love it. I love Jimin. There is a lot of speculation and ideas going around about the meaning of it all. I have noticed that the fans who love Jimin and have observed him for a long time have the best interpretation of this song. The one I agree with is that the spiral thing is a maze. What that maze is to Jimin, and how drinking Hennessy at night and on repeat fits into everything, only he can tell. One of the theories I also agree with is how Jimin is trying to walk away and at one time run away from the dancers who in this case symbolize something adverse, but they follow him, they pull him back and into a state of vulnerability or weakness. It's in the way he moves you see. And he reaches out to the universe, to the world of people who loves him to set him free but the demanding darkness still swallowed him up. I think that his vision or goal is to overcome that which drags him down and emerge a person and artist accepted for who he is. All of who he is. I liked that a lot. Now, I have no idea why the haters are kicking up dust because Jimin used autotune. True fans of BTS know none of them need it. In this case, it accentuates Jimins passionate resolve against those who mock him, wants to hurt him and look down on him. The Yin in the Yin Yang symbol (Yin is the black half that represents things that are cooler, quieter, more still and darker) A circle expanding (that he spoke about in the lyrics) 9 in numerology (symbolizes awakening and inner wisdom through life experiences and struggles) 6+1=7 A bass clef A spiral Jimin is/is in the eye of the storm There are likely others that I haven't heard yet. ❣Jimin’s “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production! Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this makes me that much more excited, waiting in anticipation for release of the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” on March 24, along with his other, main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Finally able to show & unleash his true self that, that was restricted in the confines of BTS. Required to just showing a vulnerable side, which he’s not! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self, will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! This is aside from Jimin’s full range, hardly ever being shown, aside from high notes, but being finally able to show his full registry, mid range as well as lower registry as well! I’ve always been so frustrated not being able to see as well as hear Jimin’s full capacity of talent. So often not being fully taken advantage of, but that comes with being part of a group, that has every single member having so much talent that it’s been so limiting for Jimin, especially him being so selfless, making a point of having others shine before himself. Roscoe that dance formation shape is Nature's Golden Ratio. Yes it has elements of Yin & Yang, Light & Dark. AND your head went totally in the right direction! All nature's shapes starts from this shape like you said a shell 🐚 and ferns 🌿 and embryos 👶 you totally got it! Note as he comes out of the formation he says 'Fly away, Butterfly' 🦋 another of Nature's Golden Ratios. It also represents metamorphosis which happens with Butterflies.

Let's talk about the panopticon symbolism of this set design! The panopticon was a late 18th century prison design with the cells lining the perimeter of a rotunda and facing inward to a central guard tower where a single guard himself was stationed concealed. That's the set design for this MV! The idea was prisoners never new if they were being watched or not, so they would self-regulate their behavior on the chance they were being watched. It also meant most prisoners could see each other at all times, so everyone was both the watched and the watcher. Fast forward to the 1970s and a philosopher named Foucault who applied this principle to society at large, and nowadays also applied to social media behaviors. The way we act, our expectations for ourselves based on assuming expectations from others becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as we're all feeding into and off of each other. This adds SO much context and meaning to the story Jimin is telling here. He has at time felt imprisoned, couldn't be his true self because of always being watched, tried to live and present himself based on expectations. He tries to break free of his inner demons and naysayers and everyone watching him (the other dancers) and do something a little different (notice a lot of ballet positions with his footwork and alternate choreo and tempo compared with the other dancers) but every time he's free of them, they drag him back into their swarm. Near the end, it feels like everyone lifting him up should be a good thing, they're literally praising him (matching the choir singing Glory at various times) but still ultimately grabbing at him, trying to take a piece of him, until his finally breaks free once and for all. Just amazing!!

Thank you for this great reaction. This song and the video are pure genius. I love it. I love Jimin. There is a lot of speculation and ideas going around about the meaning of it all. I have noticed that the fans who love Jimin and have observed him for a long time have the best interpretation of this song. The one I agree with is that the spiral thing is a maze. What that maze is to Jimin, and how drinking Hennessy at night and on repeat fits into everything, only he can tell. One of the theories I also agree with is how Jimin is trying to walk away and at one time run away from the dancers who in this case symbolize something adverse, but they follow him, they pull him back and into a state of vulnerability or weakness. It's in the way he moves you see. And he reaches out to the universe, to the world of people who loves him to set him free but the demanding darkness still swallowed him up. I think that his vision or goal is to overcome that which drags him down and emerge a person and artist accepted for who he is. All of who he is. I liked that a lot.
Now, I have no idea why the haters are kicking up dust because Jimin used autotune. True fans of BTS know none of them need it. In this case, it accentuates Jimins passionate resolve against those who mock him, wants to hurt him and look down on him. I'm sure they know this but like playground bullies, they will grasp at anything to cast doubt in the utter brilliance of this man and the production of this song.
