    I'm just starting my first garden here in SE KS.
    I'm going to plant potatoes. My question is how to keep them from rotting? When I buy from grocery store potatoes & put them in cabinet they get soft & rot quickly.
    Love your videos.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 года назад +1

      Thank you.
      The potatoes from the store are sprayed with a sprout inhibitor. That may contribute to them rotting. Find some seed potatoes from your local feed store, they will be better and are grown for planting. Store them in the newspaper like I showed and let them get a little light. Hope that helps.

      @@CountryLivingExperience I bought 16# of seed pot. Can't get in garden it's been raining & now snow today & tomorrow. So after I dig up my fresh pot how do I store them for months? Do I store them in newspapers thru out the year?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 года назад

      @@kathyhanson7337 Just how I showed in the video. Wrap them in newspaper in a wood crate and place in a cool but semi-lighted area. Take them out of the newspaper a few months before planting so they can get a little more light. Or create a root cellar of some kind.

    I have a couple of potatoes that have sprouted and I plan to grow in containers...However, a couple of the potoes feel mushy. Are those still ok to plant, as the sprouts on them look fine?

    Hello, so do I need to let the potatoes sprout before planting them? I think it is already time to plant them zone 7b/8a North Central Georgia

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes and no. They don't have to have the small eyes developed before planting but it helps a great deal with grow time.

    So, if I understand you correctly, your seed potatoes "sprout" while they are in the Dark Storage Place, right? So they will sprout while in the dark. I was wondering how and when I could do the right things to get my seed potatoes to sprout so that I could "Chit" them. Can anybody explain what makes them sprout? Is it dark storage, or is it being exposed to light?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  7 месяцев назад

      They will try to sprout in the dark. If there is any tiny amount of light they will sprout faster and grow toward the light. They just do that naturally. It is genetic.

    Why does you dog run in circles? I see this same dog in many of your videos running around a building and an obvious track has been made from the non stop running.
    I love that dog!

      He is hilarious. I have tracks all over my property. He is a Boarder Collie. That is his herding instinct on full display when he is running around the chicken coop.
