I like how purple ghost scocrpion red and orange have a purple interior when ripe. I enjoy processing them. Blue Christmas starts off a nice color of purple 💜
Buena Mulata in 4B in Alberta is always so prolific and easy to grow and fantastic germination.
Sweet ill try planting those
Thor's thunderer is also another type of purple pepper
A very beautiful & vigorous variety is Count Dracula; it has dark purple foliage as well as beautiful purple flowers, followed by purple peppers that ripen to a deep glowing red.Seeds are available from Totally Tomatoes.
Love the beauty of count dracula ♡♡♡
Sounds like the purple tigers I have. Beautiful purple leaves with purple pods that ripen red stripe
I been growing the Chinese 5 color pepper for a couple years...nice contrast in color and great taste and heat level..definitely recommend...
Buena Mulata is one of my favorites, I grow them every year and yes, the plants aren’t that big, but I always get high yields here in Northern IL. Tasty pepper with a nice kick of heat.
These are great as an alternative pepper in @peppergeek jalapeño sauce recipe! I added a carrot and used red onion, really good 😋 I am in panhandle NE and I too did not get a large plant but a large production.
I grew Buena Mulata also. My main complaint with them is that they take a lot longer to get ripe than other Cayenne-family peppers. This is a common issue with other purple peppers too, as purple (along with green, black, and white) is usually an unripe color.
I'm surprised you guys didn't find purple Beauty to be productive. I thought it was productively on par with King of the North and I'm in New Hampshire.
Scarlet lantern chilli !!!! Crazy variagation that is green/ light green/ purple/ white
Trying some VIOLET SPARKLE peppers from Rare Seeds this year. I had great success last year with their lemon spice, pumpkin spice and brown jalapeños, the purple peppers should look cool along with those ones.
Yes, I've heard a few positive reviews of the violet sparkle. Hope you have good luck with them!
Not sure if you would call them "purple" but I am in love with Hallows Eve Peppers.
Thank you. Purple peppers look so cool
I grew the 5 color from seed last year and over-wintered it. I liked the flavor.
Purple beauty this year
Waiting for my Black pearls to sprout. Excited to grow my first ornamental Pepper.
Once ripe they turn a bright red and have good heat. Beautiful plants.
I just picked up one of those Black Pearl I'm debating on if I should put it in the ground or in a bag
Grew orange cayenne last year and absolutely loved it. I have my purple cayenne growing now and can't wait to try it this summer!
I like the Orion and Blue Ghost Peach pepper variations.
Definitely exited to grow some purple blushed peppers hope everyone’s season goes well!
I’m doing purple ufo this season. So hyped
Love a good purple bud.
Thanks for the video. I keep getting more excited for the season with each seedling i have sprout
I feel the same way!
just gotta say your videos are top quality, im from melbourne australia and have had a bit of a slow first season growing peppers. ended up coming across your channel and your videos are very good, compact and no nonsense while still being very informative. cheers 👍
the purple cayenne is awesome. i made a blueberry-cherry hot sauce with them and it was incredible on pork & turkey
Had no idea there were that many purple varieties! Thanks for sharing. Super cool.
bolivian rainbows are one of the prettiest in my opinion :D
I grow rainbow bolivian ♡ for many years, also tequila lilas, count dracula and this year purple beauty. I love purple also in my tomato.
I just love you guys, Pepper Geeks! You constantly give me inspiration to try new things!❤
🥰 so happy to hear that!
I love the look of black peppers, they give beautiful contrasts to your garden. I'm going to be growing Black Thai Hot, Purple Peach, and Naga Smoky Rainbow. I've never grown them so hopefully they tast as good as they look.
I have purple tigers, pink tigers and purple ufo's growing atm, I never get tired of seeing the purple flowers as opposed to the usual white ones. I have something that has yellow flowers but I cant remember what it is off the top of my head, might be the bishops crown.
Growing fidalgo roxa, cherio roxa and purple jalepino
Those are amazing, love the roxa varieties, they almost look like they're glowing
@@PepperGeek a special birthday gift for my GF in June
@@PepperGeek Question, i want to put a fidalgo and cherio Roxa in one pot for a gift, what size cloth pot best ? 5 gallon or 3 gallon
loved the video
I‘ve overwintered Pimenta da Neyde and I am very happy to get an early start with it. I had Purple Cayenne last year but it didn’t seem as prolific as the yellow variety. This year I will be growing Lila Luzi (German name meaning Purple Luzi). So, this year, I only have two purple varieties.
I grew Black Pearls last season. I think my seeds came from some place shady because there was a lot of variation in the pepper shapes. Some were round but other plants they were bell shaped like two different purple seed varieties were packaged together.
Thanks for another great video. I’m growing pimenta da neyde for the first time this yeah and I’m super excited about it.
They look wicked 🖤😍 good luck on your grow
I decided to grow a majority white/cream colored peppers this year! Have about 30 different varieties going! 🤘🏼
Purple is fire but white is also very cool.
Yes, lots of varieties that ripen white - I'm sure we'll get to that video at some point in the future ☺️
Jig Saw is my favorite purple pepper, it is a fairly small plant with gorgeous foliage. Very hot!
The purple beauty was nice and early for me last year in Indiana. Overall not the best, but I'll grow again so I can have some good peppers in early June.
I like growing the Taj Mahal Pink Minion peppers. They have a great taste and good heat.
I have the Aurora, small, very productive. Floral flavor but ideal if you want heat and don't care about the fruity taste. Heat wise comparable with the cayenne.
got a few buena mulata seeds sprouting right now
Jigsaw peppers beautiful plant. Great heat
Grew those last year. Really seemed to have no flavor though. Lots of heat though
@@mattjirgal1676 i loved them. Lots of heat a good flavor. One of my favorite kinds i grew last year and a very nice lookong plant
@@tokes2042 oh yea the leaves were absolutely beautiful
They would look amazing next to their poisonous purple cousin Datura metel. Lab lab vines and eggplant would also pair well visually. Thanks for the suggestions!
I'm growing the purple cayenne this year.
I've grown Puma peppers. Tho not completely purple. Very pretty! Spicy as well!
I have been growing a purple pepper for years. It's called a 7-JPN Light. It ripens to a orange brown and has a nice heat. Grows tall and always yields well here in the front range of Colorado. I also grow the Buena Mulata for ornamental and give aways (it's an ok pepper I like them for flakes).
I'm growing quite a few purple/black varieties this year.
JPGS x Pink Tiger x Reaper Lemon, Purple Death, Orion, Naga Smooky Rainbow, Delirio, Bolivian Bumpy Carmen, Messe Noire, and Purple Jalapeño.
A few years ago I grew Count Dracula and although it had very little flavor and zero heat it may have been the most pest/weather resistant variety I've ever grown.
I'm interested in the pink tiger.
Remind me of that song about a One eyed one horned flying purple pepper eater.
People* eater lol I thought of "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers."
The prettiest pepper I know is Orion, a cross by Rocco Maltesi. It has a scorpion-like shape and similar heat, and ripens from green/yellow/purple through orange/purple to red/purple, displaying a whole rainbow of striking colors and patterns.
Also very pretty are Thor's Thunderbolt (but it isn't very productive and doesn't taste very good), and Pimenta Bela Purple (haven't tasted it yet).
Im growing some purple murupis this year! :)
I'm going to try my luck growing some aji pancas this year and they are purple as well. Hopefully all goes well
Black Hungarian is a stunning plant that I grew the last two years. Purple flowers, dark purple/black before ripening and then dark red when ripe. The plants don't seem to be too fussy either. I haven't grown any other purple varieties, though I would love to. Most of the ones that I research are either too hot for me or say that they don't have much flavor, and I don't like to grow bells because I have limited space and their production is too low.
I've grown Hungarian Black the last 2 years, which worked out pretty well. I previously grew Czech Black, which ripen to a lustrous garnet color and are quite sweet, medium heat; the only problem with them is they are thin-walled and don't keep well so they have to be eaten or processed fairly quickly. I think the Hungarian Black did better in this regard.
@@davidniemi6553 I will have to look into the Czech black. Sounds interesting.
🔥
I've grown the Buena Mulata several times. While being pretty, I prefer the red cayennes for production. I tried the Purple Beauty Bell once and I agree that it is not a producer. I think I finally got two usable peppers off of it.
I grow Blue Fuillus always. It is tasty, spicy and delicious. My wife love it
It is ornamental. We keep it in the kitchen opposite to the backyard’s door where we eat it fresh.
I would like to try the Chinese Five colours and the Black Pearl peppers.
Maybe next season because I already started my peppers seedling this year
Last year I tried to grow purple peppers for the first time, but the flesh was so very thin, it didnt have much taste or substance to it. Mostly skin. Any suggestion from this fine community?
Purple and peppers, what more could you ask for?
I like the purple bell but I would like it to be more productive. I’m growing brown bells this year . I liked what they brought to the garden last year in my accidental pack of seeds.
Is wasn’t a fan of Purple Beauty but there’s joy in the exploration and the growing of things unfamiliar to you.
Every Year since I found them at Baker Creek I've grown the Murasaki Purple pepper. its a mild pepper with pretty good vigor, and it looks really similar to the Da Neyde, so its probably a more recent cross from it. Easy to grow, productive and pest free in my experience.
We also tried out the Jigsaw from Baker, it had a really attractive variegated foliage, however once it came time for ripe peppers they were too small and too hot for our preference. Its probably more suited as an ornamental.
Excellent video. I love peppers but never thought about purple ones. You know I'm obsessed with super hot ones lol Btw, a content idea: can you make a video about peppers that do not look like a pepper :) Ty
We love feeding the birds here which can attract lots of grackles and starlings and even a few deer. I put my seedlings out in the sun over the last week and had a few curious pecks on them. should I be concerned at all about them bothering the peppers or tomatoes? I'm keeping them on the deck, so the deer shouldn't be a problem.
Good day Pepper Geek. I am from South Africa and enjoy your channel very much. I have learn so much from you. Can you maybe tell what peppers are the tastiest to grow. Not the super hottest ones but mild tot hot. I recently grow the rainforest and i love the taste. May God bless you two special people🙌🌶️💕
How much do you see air temp effecting seedling growth? I'm starting peppers in my basement for the first time, so the ambient temp is much lower than when I've grown them upstairs previously. I have them on a heat mat with a thermostat set to 75*, but they seem to be going very slowly so far.
I really like the Hungarian Black variety. It tastes a bit like jalapeno, it is quite mild. Unfortunately, it has a lot of seeds.
Can you do a video on the pepper variety in jamaica
youre a flying purple pepper eater
I like the cap 1546, its like the chinese 5 color and black perl crossed but im not sure about the actual lineage
Made my heart sing to see someone else sing the praises of PURPLE PEPPERS💜💜💜💜
Hello.. I'm from Brazil, and I have a plenty purple or black peppers, including the a Pimenta da Neyde (the pronounce of the "e" is like "e" vogal, not "a").
I also have the Black Cobra, which is black but ripens to red. Absolutely hot.
What is the name of the black pepper?
I've found all of the purple varieties to have more of a green or unripe pepper taste. They look great but lack on taste.
Heat mats grow lights fans take up room we don't have and that makes pepper growing harder here. But purple has it's place for someone who would like to add a line or two to the Pied Piper poem. Peter Piper picked a peck of purple peppers.
Can I buy purple pepper seed from you??
2:18 Do you have any of these seeds! I would love to grow some of these. I'm willing to barter for some seeds. I'm also willing to take donations!
peter picked a pair of purple peppers
Peter Piper picked a peck of purple peppers!
If the Pepper Geek made a batch of pickled purple peckers, how many purple peckers would the Pepper Geek need to pick?????
Beautiful growing, but looks like grey alien flesh when cooked!
Roses are red
If [peppers] look blue
It's because anthocyanins
Vary in hue. :D
Not an original poem.
