Try a pub crawl in Rose Street next ...... its said no one has ever completed the pub crawl having a drink in ..... every .... pub . That's my challenge to you ....
Trainspotting was set in Leith
Ha. Think you dropped your arse pal. Is that mission accomplished now? You can cut the poverty porn out now?

Edinburgh is pretty much England anyway.
Great ad for the pub. I'd say loads of Danny's viewers will head in for a pint if they're nearby after seeing how bangin the pub was.
What a great guy that barman was, I'd visit just for the knowledge of that
I visited Edinburgh a few years ago, and it was such a beautiful place! And the people were incredibly welcoming. Good people!
Edinburgh is touristy city . As for barman paid for the guys drink would never happen to a Scot in an English bar for sure . England treat Scots so much worse in England .
Absolutely not true. I've lived all over the place, Scotland and England and Northern Ireland and bar staff are always friendly (whether sincerely or not) because that's their job. English in Scotland get the hardest time because so many Scots have a bag of chips on their shoulder towards them-they'd rather have an illegal immigrant in Scotland than an English person. THAT is how bitter some Scots are. English people, like Northern Irish tend to be morecaccept8ng of people-that's my experience, anyway, and I've been from one end of this country to the other.
@@patsanters2741 I don't agree, honestly as a scottish person I feel the opposite. Apart from the stereotyping/piss-taking I find the English (particularly women) more than welcoming and genuinely quite curious towards scottish people.
Scotland is full to the brim with English residents so I can understand that visitors from England might not feel quite so welcome; familiarity breeds contempt after all.
@@lordracula2461 English people are more likely to bring up the fact you are scottish than the other way around. That is just a fact.
@@rhize797 That's just what happens when you're exotic/foreign, people will ask questions or have a joke with you. I am comfortable with that.
Go back there wearing a Hearts top and see how the locals react.
The Marksman has 4.2/5 stars on Google Reviews but tells our guy to sod off. Probably hating on the English that day thanks to Bellingham's late leveller 🏴
Probs 🤣🤣🤣
They tell other Scots to piss off too, especially Glaswegians. East coast bams.
I live around the corner, can confirm they hate on the English and anyone with a full set of teeth every day

A petrol bomb was thrown into a pub in Coatbridge ( Scotland ) in the 1970s and it was drank before it hit the ground… don’t talk to me about rough pubs !

The bar that chucked you out - they've missed out on a bit of free promotion for themselves, their loss though! Maybe they had something to hide. Also - best ad yet!
Deffo pal! 100%. Nice one 🤣
Yeah, seemed very unfriendly for some odd reason. I’ve been in all sorts of pubs in Scotland, never had any bother as a single bloke.
Or maybe the punters just wanted a pint without this teapot wondering in and objectifying them eh.

I lived in Leith for a few years, and everyone there knew to avoid The Marksman. Hell on earth. The nice pubs in Leith are all down by the waterfront.
Ha! The marksman has always been dodgy, and the Central had its moments too over the years. The spoons ive had to walk over folk od'n the doorway to get in on more than one occasion. That was weekday late afternoons for an after work pint.
This was weekday too 🤣
jsut come across your channel got to say well done on the advertisement absolutely 10/10 effort gone into that hats off to you mates only person i see making effort with it and your videos also 10/10 keep it up matey all the best
Fair play visiting those pubs, especially during an England match. The times I've been to Leith recently it's clear that it's still rough around the edges despite the regeneration.
I lived in leith in 2003 and it was very rough. My friend and I were set upon by some thugs on our way to a party. My friend was left blind in one eye from the glass in his spectacles breaking into his eye. Then he left the uk and went back to Poland due to it. I also left Scotland at that point and moved to Wales. In Wales the people were friendlier and there was much less violence and drugs than in Scotland.
In the central, the dockers used to come in before a shift and have a few beers and a punch up, in another corner, a gogo dancer was being assaulted by an alsation with the crowd egging the thing on! Happy Days

This is your best ever video mate, talking to the locals is great.
The Iona Bar is good and The Vine along at Junction Street. Most people in Leith are either sipping champagne or drinking oatmilk-mocha-lattes but some character pubs still around. The Tavern near the foot of the walk is probably worth a visit.
Spot on there mate
Maybe the boy in the bar wanted to knock you out after he heard you say “It is what it is” for the millionth time😂

Free pint off a Scot you must be popular hahaha
It was of me
I got free booze when Celtic played in Sydney
Back@Kieran ,
Ive bought many an English guy a pint and never wanted back , although wasnt ever offered back are i found a right tight fisted lot in England and why im happy to be back in Scotland staying .. Prices in Scotland are much dearer though , id grudge paying £4 plus a pint , they are much cheaper in England for drink likes though depends what part of England your in as London for instance id never go as never liked there many yrs ago so unfriendly .
As for Leith much has changed . But fishing in Scotland also i missed another reason why i came back to stay in Scotland . But prices in Scotland for drink are over the top these days since they also through Snp stopped happy hrs in Scotland nd put prices of alcohol up in Scotland regards health reasons supposedly
Just so lovable 🤣
If an Englishman offers myself a beer in a bar then im tking it and then ill dance the Highland fling
ill dance the Highland fling as its not often an English person shall buy a drink for a Bonnie Scotsman .
But the other way around Scots do buy odd drinks to English people why is that u may think .
Well us Scots are a better people as simple as and sure u enjoyed your free pint bought you from a Scot also .
Were used to being kind hearted people in Scotland . but in England opposite shy away not as friendly or open and very sly way you go about things in England . But if ever next time im in England and receive a beer ill come back onto tell you about it ok..But i wouldnt hng my hat on such 😁
Well well well. Twenty years almost exactly after leaving those exact same bars and streets behind.. my flat was in Great Junction Street.. for a life abroad.. It’s not changed, but very quiet.
Really enjoy your station here in the USA. The neighborhood tours culminating in dive pubs is extremely interesting. It's real life...keep up the cool work!
Central bar interior is stunning
The large flats were featured on trainspotting
Not them ones m8 you must have been watching another film 😂😂😂 the flats that were on trainspotting 2 were the banana flats 😂😂😢
Another banging one mate and nearly kickin off 😆
You walked past the vine bar at 8:05, that's also a real delightful shithole, I was offered a bartender job in the central bar a while back and the manager said it would be good to have someone my size to help throw out anyone fighting, I was like "yeah nah, not for minimum wage ffs"🤣😂🤣. It's a true reflection
I was a Field Service engineer on Gaming machines and Juke boxes, worked in every pub in Edinburgh and never a problem, mainly becasue I was a licenced engineer , but you never visited any of the the five trouble pubs in Leith Even I felt a bit threatend though protected by my licence to work and the owner
back in the day in Grimsby the Rainbow pub at the end of freeman street was wild, almost as bad as the dockers fist pub in aberdeen
why did that lad start on you? was it cause you're English? lmao
He started on him because he wasn't a hibs fans and also he was much cleaner and dressed well not like that pure junkie tramp.
Or because England won
I think it might be because he was filming and hes english.
Of course it's because he's English. Typical bollocks and a shame some Scots have a massive chip on their shoulders in this respect.
To be honest what would you expect? Surely nobody's surprised that an English guy walks into the roughest pub and gets some gip? If ye look for idiots you will find idiots it's no hard!
Im from Manchester but always enjoy a weekend in Edinburgh when I go up there to visit family. Leith is a cool place to visit as you have a mix of different people from all socio economic backgrounds, whereas anywhere near the centre of Edinburgh is now extremely expensive.
Manchester 🐝 invaded!
Center of Edinburgh is a circus now, lived here all my life.
Right mixed bag. In Leith, hipsters but some of the fools would make Glaswegians blush. The Marksman is rough as a bears backside. The spoons is full of my age group but the food is infamous in there. I drink up the town.
As the song goes "Sunset over Leith". Glad you never met any of the "wee raj schemies" that used to be around in the 80s.
You should get a pint of Heavy at the "Athletic Arms" aka "The Diggers". Would be a cultural highlight.

Leith is noting compared to what it was. The smoking van in pubs killed many of them off literally within a year of being implemented. Most people living there now aren't Leithers, and A LOT aren't even British. The pubs are wank, with too many studen-types or rich people. Gone are the days when ladies of a certain industry walked the streets. I worked (in the docks) and lived there from 1995 to 2018 and saw a HUGE change in that time, little for the better but mostly for the worse.
@@NathanielGarro-ru7du all the ladies of the night worked coburg st and got nailed in the carparks of the nearby little industrial estate lol i used to see them standing about when i was shooting down that way in my black cab . Then they got the boot and they moved to salamader st near the sewage works and crematorium
They also., for a time, about 10-15 years ago, hung around at Leith Links and threw used condoms into trees where they hung like jelly decorations from the branches. The residents formed a committee and got them moved on because they were taking punters up people's alleyways and doing them there- those residents being posh and well-to-do so able to pull those strings.

Love those places
That arch where you seen the free bike was built by oliver Cromwells army in the 17th century
Is that not Dr Bell's School? Built late 1830's.
That old Scottish guy must have recommended the Marksman cos he was angry that England had won and saw it as his chance to get his own back on an Englishman.
Tbh I was up in Edinburgh back in March and some of the folk I talked to were really warm except none of them were Scottish. So much diversity there that one was Australian, a few were American. And they were very affable and warm. But I can't make a fair comment on the Scots since I never really crossed paths with any.
I get the feeling that if you get on their good side, they'll treat you like family. Get on their bad side and they'll throw you to the dogs. No half measures. Not something I'm a fan of, I prefer some balance
