I'm from and live in Luton and it is a shit hole....crime rate is ridiculously high and Bury Park people try to avoid because its like stepping into Pakistan!!!
Because a lot of people living in Luton aren't actuallly from there and are immigrants, there is absolutely no desire from thosr who live there (immigrants) to make the place nice. They have no emotional attachment to it. Towns that are predominantly English with locals living there tend to be far more looked after.

Add to this, some 3 million from Hong Kong since 1997, plus, a ton of very skilled Indian workers who've come here to fill the huge gaps in the NHS and other top I.T places. The second one, since closed down, I did in 2008, and on the same trip, I did nearby Dunstable Wetherspoons too. You should probably have checked Dunstable out. Since my last visit in 2008, a special bus on rails now runs there, using the old railway line. That'll be my reason for going back. Using the airport is about all that most people see of Luton. Lorraine Chase put Luton on the map many years ago, before you were born, with some TV ads for Barcardi, and a record about Luton Airport! The Vauxhall Motors plant must be the other big employer there, but maybe not as big nowadays. I've been to Luton a handful of times... I was never "anxious" there... but I suppose I wasn't walking around with my phone out. Balaclavas are very "en-vogue" these days (since the pandemic). You didn't catch one single balaclava on video though LOL. Maybe you should have worn a balaclava, to blend in with the locals :-) Certainly, the town isn't pretty, but at least when you are there, the scenery improves ;-)
