'Our political class is so hijacked, that we are prepared to be browbeaten and kowtow to someone who will not denounce terrorism, and wants to break our country.'
Ben Habib says 'he can't put into words' how bad it is that Michelle O'Neill is invited to the King's Coronation.

"You must not pander to threats of violence" Well the British did just that in 1921 when they backed down to threats of orange terror and partitioned Ireland against the wishes of the vast majority of the people on the island of Ireland.

@言行一致 I actually agree with a large part of what you say and believe that home rule should have been given a chance and let the politicians build on it to achive full independentce by peacefull means, but you missed 3 valuable points number one Ireland was going to be devided with home rule with northern Ireland having an opt out casuse same as the eventual free state which would have led to the same sectarian devision and the same eventual conflict.
Number two the vast majority of people at the time of the 1916 rising were totally against it and openly hostile to the participants many of them having family in the British army fighting ww1 until British heavy handed tactics executing most of the leaders and even arresting people who weren't involved and even executing some of them driving most people into the arms of sinn fein see the result of the 1918 election.
3 Eamon Dev'alara wanted a county by county vote in northern Ireland to allow any county with a majority who wanted to stay in the UK stay and any county wanting to join the new free state join or he would accept a 32 county Ireland as a dominion of the British empire or wanted a 26 county republic contary to common belief but the British in their wisdom refused all these options threatening a terrible war so their the real creators of conflict in Ireland.

      @alsoascot02 Год назад

If you want to win at anything always surprise your opponent by doing the unexpected.
What did it cost O'Neil politically to attend? Nothing and it no doubt seriously pissed of the Drum Bangers. It was a smart move on many levels.
The Unionists have always lacked vision and imagination (but being fair Nationalists in NI have mostly matched them in navel gazing backward looking lack of imagination)
An example is the Unionist approach to the to the Irish Language and Irish culture. Both as tragically predictable as they downright stupid.
Their approach since 1921 should have been to have Ulster schools excel at both Irish, GAA sports and all things "Celtic" Stormont should also have ended all sectarian schooling instead of ghettoising and institutionalising the base support of their opponents sectarian school playgrounds werevthe best recruiting ground the Nationakist movement could ever have or want.
But the Unionist community have always been small minded, visionless, twonks.
They will now reap what they sowed during, a 100 years of persistent but pointless drum banging.
They have no real friends, support or sympathy in the UK now (well not outside of the Orange Lodges of the West of Scotland)
Most especially not in modern England.
Where unlike when NI was formed the current general population know little and care less about NI's " Britishness", they just see seemingly perpetually angry idjiits banging drums, playing flutes and marching around. Most I figure in Englamd/GB today think wtf has that got to do with anything English/ British?
And they certainly have no sympathy or potential allies in the ROI.
They are increasingly yesterday's men with nowhere to go.
For apparently staunchly religious men they dont appear to take biblical lessons very seriously.

It says it is for the people of Northern Ireland to decide their own future peacefully and democratically. The fact that wealthy and powerful Habib will not get to over rule the common people enrages him, so he uses emotive language like 'capitulate'. What he hates is democracy. It is up to King Charles III to decide who to invite, it is up to the people of Northern Ireland to decide their future. Hes happy that the DUP sit in the house of commons as their Unionis. Wouldn’t you love if history were reversed - lets say it was Ireland invaded/conquered England and then agreed to “allow” them their independence. But perversely having done so, WE [the Irish Empire] decided that England should be partitioned….so as to satisfy the shires/counties of the West Country - where after ethnic cleansing etc a majority of Catholic “planters” wanted to stay in power - to remain in a union and we took the area [let’s just say 6 western counties for “balance”] into our “United Kingdom of Ireland”. It would from now on be called “West England” and politically governed as part of a “Greater Ireland” from Dublin.
A hundred years later and the local elections in self-governing ‘West England’ reveal a majority leaning away from traditional ‘Irish Unionism’… would an Irish Dubliner get away with this undemocratic and bigoted verbiage. Oh and the independent government of the country [West England] had been brought down by traditional Irish Unionists because a democratically elected Non-Unionist party [who aspire to reunite with England] had a first ever majority in the local parliament. And bloody hell, these West Country anti-Unionists (i.e. republicans) refuse to take an oath of allegiance to the Irish Monarch in Dublin Castle and hence cannot take their seats in the Dail in Dublin!

You're basically saying ''oh look, he's friends with a bad man.'' Surely this can be discussed in a more mature way? By the way Gerry, Arlene Foster had to endure terrible abuse over the years about her appearance and sexuality, all because she looked a bit boyish or butch. And all of the comments were coming from supposed liberals and self self righteous left wingers. Many nationalists who think they are morally superior would do well to remember such things.
