Thanks man! I really wanted to get some friends into eu4, but the barrier to entry was too high, but this video has certainly lowered the bar for them! Thanks!
I’ve watched so many tutorials for this game and the information here is ALL WAFFLE FREE and says exactly what a new player needs. Thank you so much for creating this video.
It seems I watch a tutorial and maybe pick up a thing or two, playing Castile, usually go incredibly into debt, get attacked and then not sure what to do. The basic functions I know how to do. It’s things like should I go into debt to get the best councilors, combing regiments into an army, the nobility and making peace. Most tutorials talk too fast, they show things way to fast without zooming in or like yours is too blurred to often read. It’s nice that yours is easy to skim through and maybe I will pick up something that will help or I can build upon.
This game can be really tough. I also struggle to not get into debt with Castille. It is a deceptively difficult nation in my opinion (even though it is listed among the "recommended nations"). I personally prefer Aragon over Castille when it comes to playing in Spain. Good luck! :)
Thanks for using the generally accepted English spelling of Castile. One of my pet peeves of Paradox's EU and CK games is that they spell Castile with two Ls. And don't get me started on Victoria giving the names of German provinces in German when so many other countries have their provinces in the English equivalent.
I just got the game a few days ago and i was struggling to learn about it before this video. I really want to thank you for this amazing work! Its helped me understand the game a lot more and I'm finding it super fun now.
Dom Graves Great to hear! It was a real headache for myself when I just started out, so I’m glad you’re already enjoying it! What nation did you try first?
Yes, that is nice indeed! Preventing map gore and such, haha! I had some real trouble with England when I just started out because of France. Nice that it is going well!
Coming from HoI4, I am so confused with EU4. I have watched or listened to AT LEAST 40 hours of tutorials on this game, and this 20 minute video taught me more than all of that. Thank you SO much for making this! I want more content that HoI4 has, and EU4 has that. But it would appear that comes at the cost of a steep learning curve, and this video helped flatten it! Even if I never watch another video, you sir have earned a sub!
Wow, thank you very much! That's very nice of you to say :D Personally, I started with EU4 and then switched to HOI4. You are right that it's easier to go from EU4 to HOI4 than the other way around, haha! Anyway, good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
Great tutorial! I watched a different one not too long ago, but the tutorial itself was 4 years old.. I hadn’t realized how much had changed, so this rocks!
Thanks for making a tutorial based entirely off things that you'll need to worry about within the first hour instead of mixing it with random lategame stuff that only comes up in niche situations and involves DLC that someone looking to try the game wouldn't have anyways
My very first game I played as Ottomans in Rise of Ottomans. After only a few months, I gathered 20k troops and went to reclaim a province from Albania (i think). I made sure to position my troops so they wouldn't have to cross a river when entering the province, but when I went to attack, my troops first moved so they would have to cross a river before entering the province. It was taking forever compared to the tutorial, so eventually I said fuck it and sped up the time. I spent like 10 years trying to siege one province and during that time I spent all of my money, every country I had a truce with started making claims on and taking my provinces, and then Venice came and destroyed my army. I haven't touched the game since.
It sure is! CK2 is, in my opinion, more about the characters and not so much about conquering (although you can still do this of course). I'm more of an "I want to conquer everthing" kind of guy, so that's why I enjoy EU4 a bit more than CK2. How about you? Anyway, thank you for your compliment! Glad to hear it helped!
@@GameStach I like both lol, the characters are very interesting in ck2, I would never have come up the idea of a dwarf immortal Augustus of rome by myself but eu4 looks like alot of fun so again, I thank you for making the transition easier :D
I just want to say that this is one of the best tutorials I've seen about a game EVER. I'm new to Eu4 and I stopped playing it for a while but lately I've been getting back into it and I'm trying to learn the game because I really love it and I love how realistic it can be. Don't get me wrong I also love Hoi4 and other paradox games but lately I've taken a keen interest in EU4 and it's starting to become one of my favorite games. One reason that I would prefer EU4 over Hoi4 is that EU4 is in it's own way really realistic becasue of the complexity which for some reason most people don't understand or even try to understand. I'm planning on doing a lot more EU4 in the coming Thanksgiving break and I really cannot wait until I actually get good at the game. I just want to say that this tutorial has definetly helpled a 70 hour noob like me. And I can say for a fact that this tutorial is going to make me enjoy the game evem better. Thank you so much and stay safe. Just earned a sub btw
Thank you man! I'm really happy you say that! :D If you ever want to play game or ask questions, feel free to join the discord server: discord.com/invite/UU3fJEP Hope to see you there!
Man i wish there were good Stellaris / HOI4 videos out there like yours; your intro was 100% correct in that most Paradox tutorial content on YT tends to be meandering, unscripted and full of unhelpful info or too overly technical for a beginner tutorial. You make very good use of the phrase "worry about that later."
Wow, thank you for your amazing compliment :) I have a degree as a teacher, so I know that most people (myself included) don't have an extremely long attention span; so I try not to tell non-essential information. Before making this video, I obviously watched what other tutorials were like, and most of them start by going over the icons in the top bar. That sometimes takes them an entire episode of 20 minutes. I did that in under a minute, because I think people can read a tooltip themselves - they don't need me to do that for them. But anyway, if people know enough to play the game comfortably after my video, my goal is achieved :)
man, I feel you, I bought stellaris like 2 years ago and I just gave up because the games tutorial is so hard to grasp and to watch tutorials with 40 mins about 1 single thing is just ridiculous
GameStach: Never fall behind on Military tech, because that means you can loose a war, even if you have more troops. Soviet Union in WW2: Am i joke to you?
3:37 "Read the tooltip"...well, I'm expecting a lot of reading now. 😂🤣 So, I didn't do the tutorial like an idiot. Loaded up an SP match. Was lost in 5 minutes and quit. You've clarified so much for me within 10 mins.
As a hoi4 player trying to play eu4 alongside it… it is somehow similar yet entirely different. Stuff like political power is money, you don’t need heirs or anything in hoi4, vassals are basically puppets etc
This guide was very helpful and informative. I am from Kazakhstan and I speak Russian and there are no good guides for this game in Russian. Thank you :)
Amen for the opening sentence of this video. I just stumbled on an EU4 tutorial for Castille that looked pretty popular, but it was boring as F### telling me all minutiae that didn't tell me ZIP about the game and what's the point of it. Already I can tell this video is the video for me (a newb wanting to know what this game is all about). Thank you!
i've had EUIV for a long time now (from Epic) but never tried it because i found it overwhelming, but with this tutorial i can play it. I find strategy games comforting when i'm fed up with shooters and RPGs :D
I have little over 100hrs in CK3 and now deciding I want to try out other paradox titles, and CK3 is by far imo the easiest to grasp, HOI4 being the hardest. I was intimidated by EU4 but now it seems so simple thanks to this tutorial !
Thank you for your compliment! Yes, EU4 can be quite confusing at the start. Don't worry, you'll master it in no time :) Best tip ever: Just hover over things you don't get, read the tooltip and it should help you big time. If you happen to have any questions, just let me know :)
I had put way too many hours into HOI4 {2200} and ive always wanted to get into EU4, only thing offputting me was the 400$ DLC pricetag & i couldnt exactly understand how to handle my economy & politics, ive tried using tutorials but they were so insistent on small details that never mattered to me, thank you for being straight to the point.
@@GameStach Economy and politics are simple, it's the combat micro and template's but its not that hard of a game unless ur playing mp or a mod like black ice But eu4 is pretty funny , did a Castile play through colonizing the Americas and India definetly will play it more
Awesome! Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy the game. It can be reaaally frustrating at times, but if you give it some time, you'll waste more hours on it than you'd like :D
Thank you very much! Answered some questions and was even entertaining to watch! I'll watch your videos where you will be playing as well, as I'm sure it will give me allot of insight in navy, trade/merchants, battles, and a whole lot of other stuff I didn't even get the chance to fuck up yet
Thank you! That is very nice to hear! :D I also have a few tutorial series that could be helpful. You could check out the Ottomans if you're interested in playing them or if you want to learn more about the basics of the game (ruclips.net/p/PLneeyHrEgpDiiy0SotgFuOBHW7BJYaRsA). In case you're a bit more experienced, then the Castille series could be useful (ruclips.net/p/PLneeyHrEgpDhPqih5ksxf1MXikUeaOYvx). That one introduces colonization and colonial nations. (And new videos are of course on the way :) )
@@GameStach you are welcome can you help me with something I'm playing with castile now and the nobilty hates me and always do something that let me choose to either stand with him but the pop will hate me or they will make a revolt
"...and most importantly, it's not a role-playing game." Ah yes, the most essential and critical point to note about EU4.

Thanks! That's wonderful to hear! I hope you're enjoying the game :)
omg thx so much i just bought the game and trying to play it, you hav the only tutorial thats actually useful. thanks so much!!!
Glad I could help! I hope you'll enjoy the game!
11:07 this... THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THANK YOU
this guy is the best tutorial maker he makes the tutorials short but good unlike other tutorials
Just got the game and had trouble playing with friends. Your tutorial was very good and very well made. Fantastic work
Thanks mate, really happy to hear that! Enjoy playing with friends; my friends all hate EU4 :(
I just got the game a few days ago and i was struggling to learn about it before this video. I really want to thank you for this amazing work! Its helped me understand the game a lot more and I'm finding it super fun now.
Dom Graves Great to hear! It was a real headache for myself when I just started out, so I’m glad you’re already enjoying it! What nation did you try first?
@@GameStach I've really liked England so far. I love the idea of unifying a geographic area with clear borders and islands are as clear as they get
Yes, that is nice indeed!
That's very nice of you to say :D
Personally, I started with EU4 and then switched to HOI4.
Yeah, it's crazy how much stuff gets added, right?
I always wanted to play Russia in all it's vast glory in a strategy game.. maybe this is the game I've been looking for
The only decent tutorial I’ve seen on this game. I’m starting my first game soon wish me luck. 👍
Thank you and good luck! Which nation are you starting with? :)
A very tidy and useful video - thanks!
Thank you! Nice to hear it was helpful :)
Thanks for making a tutorial based entirely off things that you'll need to worry about within the first hour instead of mixing it with random lategame stuff that only comes up in niche situations and involves DLC that someone looking to try the game wouldn't have anyways
I'm pretty sure this will become very useful for the new wave that's gonna come
I hope so too!
I am more than 500 hrs in and still enjoy this game and decided to watch this video anyways lol
Finally a good one. Spent 3 hours on the game and declaring war, attacking, etc. is just impossible. Money? Tax? how complicated does this get?!
this helped me understand the basics thank you sir
I was soooooo not ready for 6:42 I almost choked on my water
Clear and to the point. Doesn't waste our time on useless stuff. Thank you so much
And thank you for your nice comment! Have fun playing :D
@@GameStach Thanks, have a nice day
This game is very different than ck2, thanks for the guide, I've watched like 10 guides and this is the only one that actually helped me lol.
You're welcome! :D (Sorry for the late response. I don't get notifications if someone responds to my response haha)

Hope to see you there!
Just getting into the game in the game the hours of reading. thank you!
Fantastic video, I feel I can dive right in! Thanks :)
Great to hear! Let me know how your first game went :D
Thank you. I have seen many many many tutorials and I have never actually managed to understand the game until this one. You’re awesome.
Thank you, Gustavo! :D
Very very good tutorial. I have experience with CK2 so this was presented nice and quickly and cleanly in a way that I can understand.
"its not a war game" HOLD MY BEER
Man i wish there were good Stellaris / HOI4 videos out there like yours; your intro was 100% correct in that most Paradox tutorial content on YT tends to be meandering, unscripted and full of unhelpful info or too overly technical for a beginner tutorial. You make very good use of the phrase "worry about that later."
Wow, thank you for your amazing compliment :)
I have a degree as a teacher, so I know that most people (myself included) don't have an extremely long attention span; so I try not to tell non-essential information.
Hahaha, that is of course the exception! :D
This game is so easy. The first time i played it, I played as Spain, conquered France, and then conquered all of northern Africa lol
3:37 "Read the tooltip"...well, I'm expecting a lot of reading now. 😂🤣
So, I didn't do the tutorial like an idiot.
Very good tutorial! I didn,t even know about diplomacy before!
I like how you described vassals
finally a paradox tutorial under 20 mins!
This guide was very helpful and informative. I am from Kazakhstan and I speak Russian and there are no good guides for this game in Russian. Thank you :)
You're welcome! Glad to know it was helpful! :)
Thank you!
Finally , straight to the point tutorial
You know it's a complex game when even the most concise tutorial is nearly 20 minutes
Thank you! I was searching for a good tutorial on EU4 and finally found it
Glad I could help!
i've had EUIV for a long time now (from Epic) but never tried it because i found it overwhelming, but with this tutorial i can play it.
I find strategy games comforting when i'm fed up with shooters and RPGs :D
Good luck! You can do it :)
Watching this video for the third time because I took a break from playing EUIV and I need a refresher
Glad to have you back :)
I have little over 100hrs in CK3 and now deciding I want to try out other paradox titles, and CK3 is by far imo the easiest to grasp, HOI4 being the hardest. I was intimidated by EU4 but now it seems so simple thanks to this tutorial !
Great to hear! Enjoy EU4 :)
THIS is how tutorial should be. Great work pal, I already played 3 hours without getting lost thanks to this vid only.
Thank you, you're welcome!
How is EU4 compared to HOI4? Are you enjoying it? :)
@@GameStach Economy and politics are simple, it's the combat micro and template's but its not that hard of a game unless ur playing mp or a mod like black ice
But eu4 is pretty funny , did a Castile play through colonizing the Americas and India definetly will play it more
I guess same could be said eventually about eu4 that is becomes easy after thousands of hours of experience
Great tutorial man. You made me realize that this game is not for me 😂
Thanks, i'll use this later mate
eccellente tutorial per un nuovo EU4 giocatore, grazi!
Thanks for your help :D I'm starting with eu4 rn and this tutorial is really helpful. I liked your video and subscribed
Awesome! Thank you!
I hope you'll enjoy the game. It can be reaaally frustrating at times, but if you give it some time, you'll waste more hours on it than you'd like :D
This intro bought me, 100% what i was thinking
Awesome! Wonderful to hear! Thanks for the sub :)
great and short tutorial! clears many of my questions up!
that was very compact. Thank you very much.
I also have a few tutorial series that could be helpful. (And new videos are of course on the way :) )
0:46 "you can colonize the new world and kill all the natives"
*happy music*
thank you for this video unlike other 10 hours video which explain how to move mouse
"To start the game, go to Steam. Then, double click EU4. The game will now launch"
This tutorial was very easy to understand, thanks!
i know this is old but that's amazing tutorial
Thank you! :)
@@GameStach you are welcome
can you help me with something I'm playing with castile now and the nobilty hates me and always do something that let me choose to either stand with him but the pop will hate me or they will make a revolt
