I'd say another factor is that it was the final game made by ensemble studios (the game devs that made the Age Of Empires series) before microsoft dissolved them.
I know this game is the halo game most people don’t care for but I appreciate you putting out content on it. It was a childhood favorite of mine and it’s great to see content for it in 2022. It is rare, thank you!
Halo wars was such a great game, but I'd argue that halo wars 2 also had a good campaign, especially the nightmare dlc. The first game definitely has a superior campaign, however.
Something you didn’t mention that I think is cool is that when you win games against the AI when you have the automatic difficulty selected the skirmishes get harder and harder. As you lose it gets easier and easier. It’s a small thing but I find it awesome that even when playing against the AI, by myself, I can have a fun time playing the game knowing that if I lose it’s either because I made a mistake or that the AI quite simply out played me. The difficulty for me has never gone beyond 105 and never gone below 90 for quite some time and every match feels the same yet different all at the same time.
To an extent. Adaptive difficulty doesn't make the AI smarter, just gives them more buffs. Eventually (I've reached 117, ironically enough), enemy units just become so tanky and powerful that even dedicated counters and higher tech level units underperform against the unit they are supposed to counter. To put this into perspective, 4 MAC shots can either outright kill a Scarab or leave it critically wounded. On 117 difficulty, 4 MAC shots barely do a quarter of its health. Basically, the adaptive difficulty is designed to become impossible to beat, no matter how well you play.
@@LAZERAK47V2 I noticed that a bit while going through play throughs but there is a big difference between AI difficulty of 70 and AI difficulty of 100 in terms what the AI does vs what they get. I do agree that it was made to be impossible beyond a certain point but I do feel the difference in how well the AI plays when I’m playing on easier difficulties.
I've noticed that when I do a legendary 2v2 my ally 9 times out of 10 acts like a dink and sends one unit at a time across the map to die whereas the enemies have a focused offensive that almost ALWAYS comes to my base before I even have a chance to prepare.
You should absolutely buy it, I just really wished they fixed some of the bugs that break the game in multiplayer :/ if by some miracle a dev is watching and reading this comment I really wish they fixed: The canny glitch with the tanks, and by extension the Y ability glitch on shield generators. The invincible offensive protector glitch on labyrinth that makes that map unplayable at high level play The plethora of arbiter rage glitch’s like the “cliff” glitch when you get on an aircraft they can just fly over a cliff and kill your arby and the rage run glitch The hunters not being able to get their spirit bond back if one of them dies and then is healed back to full health The invincible infantry unit getting stuck on Barriers which is ridiculously annoying on maps like fort deen and glacial Polish the hawks little gauss cannons or whatever they are so they don’t drastically effect frame rate The brute chieftain phasing through covers glitch Fix the vampire glitch where sometimes if you spam Y you can stasis drain air units literally from across the map And for the love of God fix the grizzlies canister shell so they aren’t completely useless and outclassed in every way (except health) by scorpions making forges super unit a complete waste. As far as map specific glitches and quirks: Please fix how on tundra one generator can attack the rebels and one can’t making one side far more useful than the other Please fix how on exile the turrets on the bottom 4 bases can hit each others bases fix the pelican glitch on terminal moraine So you don’t have people getting both hooks in less than 30 seconds Please make both walls on fort deen Scaleable by scarabs so it’s not one sided Please fix tall side of fort deen so locusts can’t shoot through the ground and hit the base All the way from the teleporter (I don’t play solos often so I don’t have a lot of exp. With those maps but I’ve heard on release the flood constantly get stuck and won’t attack the opponents base but again can’t confirm that) I used to be the 2nd best brute in the world on the leader boards for like 6 months straight and used to be considered “high level” so TR if you ever want me to teach you how to break the game or show you high level strats let me know. Love y’all ❤️
Another great video, TR. Halowars is definitely worth playing even today. I personally would have loved to see maps like it in HW2. I prefer the more natural feel if it makes sense.
You guys should try and host like community game nights on halo wars de to try and give some life back to the game. I know it's not the same as matchmaking, but it would still give you the chance to play the original halo wars and hopefully have some cheddarful moments. Since you're streaming more often now too that's another thing you could stream.
Things they did better in multiplayer than halo wars 2. The Spartans can get stars. the raining down of odst. The tanks are better. The Mac blast is so much fun and better. And the separation of units in army's, it's not big blobs fighting each other.

My initial experiences with _Halo Wars_ (Definitive Edition) multiplayer is that I'm against a bunch of players who are not only already established with what they're doing but also appear to have conscious team coordination. Very alienating and dispiriting.
Simple yes but I wished that it had the same online like the original where it separates party vs solo players and that it searches for players instead of hosting a game but I know why they did that cuz they wanted ppl to play hw2 instead of the 1st one
Not sure if this video still has any life. But I can't play Halo Wars DE cause it literally crashes on startup. No amount in reinstalling, restarting my computer or any of the typical solutions work like driver updates etc. Can't figure out what the issue could possibly be.
The problem with the multiplayer in my experience, is that most of the players I've played against are not only established with the game but also teamed-up against the new players (like myself). They know the maps and strategies, whereas the rest of us are still learning. Once you've had a handful of goes and the same pattern emerges it becomes pointless. If people want there to be more players then it's imperative they're willing to team with players who are new(er) to the game. And why there isn't a free-for-all component to the game seems absolutely retarded to me. That would be much better for newer players I think. Does _Halo Wars 2_ have a free-for-all multiplayer mode?
The absolute detail the devs went into for the cinematic blew me away when it came out on the 360 that still looks amazing to this day

The OG Halo Wars is better than Halo Wars 2.

Well the original Halo Wars 360 servers are still online from 2009, so I’d imagine the HW DE servers will be online for at least 8 more years or so.
I have it but can't play it, it keeps crashing on my PC but doesn't crash on my outdated 6yr old PC but does have crappy framerate sometimes.

This game is 13 years old, if you have not figured out how to play multiplayer by now, you are so far behind, just go play fortnite or something.
