I always have trouble finishing my binding, but this technique was very clear and I think I can use it to make my binding look more professional. Thank you!
Enjoyed this series so much. Good tips that mostly I already used. Biggest thing......Corey is one of the best teachers as she shows how to do. She is a natural in front of the camera and that was a pleasure to watch and hear !!!
This video has helped me with the fear of making binding strips, attaching them, etc. Great tutorial, pics, and sooo helpful. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and I absolutely loved your story about your favorite quilt - so touching! You're an amazing teacher :)
I’m going to rethink my bindings after watching your video. I have NOT been happy with my current binding technique. Thank you for sharing the quilt that your precious grandma gave you… So special!
Thanks for this series! I just purchased some of the fabric you made the pillow from. What a wonderful gift your grandma & mom gave you! I have a quilt that is three generations. My grandma has been gone for over 40 years but she made a Sunbonnet Sue, complete with embroidered flowers. She gave it to my mom. I eventually asked for it and being the only daughter she agreed I should have it so she hand-quilted it first before giving it to me. I eventually added the binding (it was a large scalloped edge). It is probably the most dearest quilt I'll ever own or be part of its making. I don't have a daughter, but I have lots of grand daughters to choose to bequeath it to!
Oh my goodness Corey. Another great tutorial! Thanks for the details. I'm so happy to know many of my tips and tricks I've learned by trial and error, you are doing the same. So great to have that affirmation. And LOVE love love your quilt made for you from your grandma and mom!! I'm so jealous! I have never been gifted a quilt myself. There's hope yet. 😉Regardless, it's fun making them and gifting to others. Thank you so much! Keep the great videos coming. I am definitely going to do more hand quilting!!
This is the second time I've watched your two-part hand quilting series on a pillow cover. Such good tips. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕 Love the quilt from Grandma Lulu 😍
Beautifully done, Carey! May I share a tip for the end join of the binding? That little piece you cut off to get a straight edge on one end is EXACTLY the width of your binding. So no need to use a ruler to measure & mark the opposite end. Just open up & lay that cut off piece on top & you'll have the perfect measurement of where to cut.
I really enjoyed watching you bind this pillow ! I haven't done any quilting in years due to hand problems. This made me want to try a small project something simple thank you so much.
Thanks for showing how to machine bind a quilt. Have arthritis in my hands which makes hand sewing painful. I machine bind all my projects, but never saw a tutorial on how to do this. Your tips are brilliant and easy to follow. I usually use 2 1/2 “ binding but will try a smaller binding on a small project to see if this makes it more attractive. Thanks!
Fabulous!! Thanks Corey for all your insightful tips and tricks! Can’t wait to try! Have you ever used machine quilting and hand quilting in the same project? And which would you do first?❤️
I've made 3 small quilts so far and cannot figure out binding. This is a perfect little project to practice. Thank you for the tips! Idk what I'm doing wrong to not get those perfect corners but ironing seems like a no brainer that I haven't tried 😅
Thx so much Corey for making this tutorial I will definitely be making a pillow love the fact it is small and really good project to do when you are a beginner or advanced and want to learn a new skill such as hand piecing :-))))
Hello! Sew enjoyable and learn some new techniques. Thank You I am also enjoy your Goodness Grows BOM. Now to write down what I’d like to incorporate in my sewing. ❤️
Thank you for a great tutorial! You were so clear in your instructions. I especially enjoyed your tip to iron the binding before flipping it to the front to sew down. I have one question for you. Do you also use 2” bindings on your quilts?
Hello Corey! I remember you from your blogging days and knew you'd go far! I saw your talent and knew you were on your way! Congrats for all you've accomplished hon! Best Wishes, Deb (QuiltbeemeDeb)
Thank you for all your helpful tips. I noticed you don't use a walking foot to attach the binding. Is it because you've already stitched your layers together along the edges before binding?
Corey, you are just a delight to watch. I love you tutorials. I do have a question thought....you spoke of minky on the back of your quilts..do you use spray adhesive on your “quilts”(not small projects) or pin like crazy the layers together when you go to hand quilt?
Thank you! I am usually making smaller projects when I am hand quilting. The largest quilt I've hand quilted is probably only around 60" square or so. For that one, I used spray adhesive and safety pin basted. My mom has two quilt frames that we can put larger quilts into. The quilt in the video that my grandma made and my mom hand quilted would have been done in the frame.
Great tutorials ! I have never tried hand quilting but I'm going to give it a go now. Can I ask what type of batting would you use (or did Lulu) use with the minky backing so its not to heavy or stiff as yours looks ideal. Thank you x
You mentioned using DMC in you hand quilting. Are you talking about embroidery floss And how many strands do you use. Love your hand quilted pillows and learn so Much from your videos. Bettye Day Adams
Does your lulu lane quilt have batting as well as minky? I am thinking hand quilting with minky would be very linty…. Joe do you deal with the added lint?
I love your pillow (and grandma's quilt). Thank you for sharing your technique for binding, especially connecting the binding at the end. Since Minky is man made & doesn't shrink and the top is cotton & does shrink, do you pre-wash the cotton before sewing it?
Love your technique for binding! I do have one question .. The stop and starting .. after you sew on the binding to the back and you flip it to the front, you sew down to your line of stitching, cut the thread and pivot .. and start again where the angle is .. how do you prevent thread nests? I usually use a leader but I don't think I can in this case. Just wonder how to prevent that nest!
That's a great question. My Juki doesn't have the thread nest issue--but my Bernina sure does! If I were sewing binding this way using my Bernina, I would want to be sure that I was holding those loose threads taut to the back of my machine as I began sewing.
I always have trouble finishing my binding, but this technique was very clear and I think I can use it to make my binding look more professional. Thank you!
That quilt your Grandmother & mom made is beautiful! What an heirloom!
Isn't it wonderful!--it's such a treasure to me.
Enjoyed this series so much. Good tips that mostly I already used. Biggest thing......Corey is one of the best teachers as she shows how to do. She is a natural in front of the camera and that was a pleasure to watch and hear !!!
Please do not ever quit adding a diagonal stripe to your collections. I purchase them for bindings, also.
Love these 2 video every time I watch them. Thank you.

This was a, “Just perfect” video for my baby quilt top practice o with Hand Quilting. 💜

I was going to say this, too. You explained it better than I could.
I will try that next time! Thanks!

I am a new quilter THANK YOU FOR GOING SLOW
Thanks Corey, I really loved the hand quilting, I'm going to try this! I use Creative Grids folded corner cutter for all my binding and finishing too!
Thanks for sharing! Great job
The clearly perfect angle tool is exactly like Eleanor Burns Sew Straight. I love mine
Thank you for a great tutorial! You were so clear in your instructions. I especially enjoyed your tip to iron the binding before flipping it to the front to sew down. I have one question for you. Do you also use 2” bindings on your quilts?
Thank you! When I am machine binding I always use 2" binding. If I am hand stitching my binding down as the final step, I cut at 2 1/4".

Awesome. Thank you. 🌺
Great tutorial!
Loved the project! I know it is three years old. What size was the minky fabric on back. Loved the hand quilting!
Thank you for this video! Love the quilt you grandma and mom made for you. Did they add batting between the Minke and cotton top?
Thank you for all your helpful tips. I noticed you don't use a walking foot to attach the binding. Is it because you've already stitched your layers together along the edges before binding?
Thank you so much❣️

A low loft 80/20 cotton/poly blend works great.
Thanks for video. Do you use 2 inch binding on your quilts too?
Thank you!

And how many strands do you use. Love your hand quilted pillows and learn so
Much from your videos.

Hello Ellen! We don't pre-wash the cotton before sewing it but you're welcome to if you'd like.
I really enjoyed watching this video, ❤ however I couldn't find your video on Binding using piping? Would you be so kind and leave me a link?
