Just found your channel a little while ago.... good stuff!! I`ve got a 2003 35zts and the final drive came apart exactly like yours.... pretty funny that it`s damn near the same as your cat!!! I didn`t have a manual but after a bit I figured out how to get the cover off... frigged up design!!! When I was looking around I couldn`t find any aftermarket replacements.... cost me 3k in parts so I could rebuild it!!! KEEP THE OIL CHANGED!!!
Cool stuff! I have to say you have improved alot since this one was done with how you talk and are more dynamic in the way you talk. Its a good thing. Not met to be taken as a negative.
Why did you have to get a new one? Could the old one not be rebuilt? I have a cat 303.5 E2 that was out of fluid and had sludge in it. Hoping I can just tear it apart and replace the seals and gears. Thank you for your video. Very helpful. Not looking forward to smelling gear oil. LOL
Here I am, Michael, sitting here, watching this whole video, and I didn't even get to see the thing move. Talk about a lack of gratification. I guess I'm just going to have to go back to Chris's channel. Of course, Mr. BigDeal18 doesn't keep equipment around long enough to have to do any real work on them.
I have an 06 303.5c and im leaking hydro oil out of final drive im hoping its a seal how did u like the final drive u got aftermarket. I might have to order one
@@DirtPerfect Not complaining !!- Just giving you a Bench Mark for future reference.!! Though i am surprised that you don't have a Time Machine !!! lol
Gear oil is nasty stuff. Old used gear oil is so much nastier. I still remember my first encounter with nasty old gear oil way back in ‘85. It left that much of an impression on me. 🤢🤮 On the other hand I worked a half shift Saturday doing some equipment clean up/pm’s and the robot supplier was in changing out the gear oil on the joints of 6 different robots and it appeared that they pump in new oil to flush out the old oil. It smelled but no where near as bad as the one ton rear axle I helped swap out in ‘85. Perhaps the stench increases with the relative SAE weight of the gear oil.
I had the wifes new Audi parked in the garage when i tore one down ,she went to work the next day and called me madder than hell wanting to know why the inside of her car smelled like a old smokey bar room ! i laughed like hell
You may have to point out where think I know what you are talking about and it was scrap from the pry bar but not for sure you may have seen something different then me

We had final drive fridays at a shop I worked at dispose of the oil and clean up the parts and hope the smell cleared out over the weekend
Have a D31-EX that is needing a final drive (right). Any suggestions for replacement sites, and why is it necessary to take off tracks?

Be sure you check the manufacturer specs some machines use a light weight synthetic oil
