Nick and his brother Phil have built many race car engines over the years, and they are not all for the family's cars. This week, there is a 408 c.i. bracket racing engine on the dyno, and the results surprise even these seasoned racers. PLUS - The 600hp Charger heads home.

It never ceases to amaze me that Nick builds all of these high performance engines with lots of compression and big lumpy cams and how easily and quickly they start and how smooth they run.

I am a car guy and I love watching Nick’s Garage. I like the fact that there are cars featured from the three big brands. I especially like the dyno runs. As a french Canadian, I am very proud to see a Quebec citizen with Greek descendance such as Nick, be able to communicate with his clients in our 2 national languages as well as in Greek. In this time of building walls and hunting down “illegal” immigrants in the country south of our border ( not to mention racially motivated mass shootings), this makes me happy to live in a truly free country that is welcoming and embraces diversity. The Greeks, the Italians and a lot of other groups have helped build our nation to what it has become and I am truly thankful for it. God bless you all.

big Hurtt Point taken. It’s interesting that you choose to warn me that mass shootings will eventually happen in my country rather than saying for example: “we are working towards change and educating our youth to be more tolerating and along with stricter gun laws we look towards a brighter future”. That being said, I apologize for my initial comment I will keep it all about cars from now on.

I'm a mopar die hard but it's hard to call that a race engine, its more of a hot rod engine. My old man's 422 (.060 over 340, 4" crank) made 560hp, 580tq... on pump gas. Keep up the good work, I was just expecting a more racy small block

That red R/T car is just plain nasty! And it looks like it’s got the right driver and technician. Those old 440s are just mean! They were always hard to beat. And you pretty much had to have a built Pontiac to have a shot. It’s a beautiful thing when it all comes together and, they actually get driven instead of being hidden in a garage to rot. Respect!

I feel your pain on the hidden fuel pump switch, Nick! Years ago I had just started working the counter at a 10bay full service tire shop. The owner had a low mileage '70 Cutlass convertible with a 455(may have been a 350, he had 4 Cutlasses), white paint, interior, and top that he kept at the shop. Every day we pulled it out in the morning and back in at night. My 3rd day there, I was closing the store alone and no one had told me about the hidden FP switch it had. I spent over 2hrs trying to start that car thinking at first I had flooded it, then checking spark, and finally realizing there was no fuel pressure while praying the owner didnt show up and see the new guy working under the hood of his baby that is still out in the parking lot well after close. I finally swallowed my pride, called my boss, got a big ear full of him laughing his head off as he told me where the hidden switch was. He got me good with that little prank. I returned the favor a few weeks later.

Nick, if you read these, please note that I was not bashing you or your mechanical skills in any way. I do not know how equipped your facility is when I made a comment about seeing Petty Racing for an engine (the 6 pack engine video). I was referring to the Nascar engines because you said the guy has a lead foot. I know that you build quality stuff and would trust you for any engine build that I would need. I enjoy and have learned a whole lot on each of your videos. I wish that they were around back in the 60s and 70s when I was hot rodding around. Back then, there was nothing. Thank you Nick.

Nick, here's a suggestion / request which occurred to me when you mentioned it was a hot and humid day in Montreal.... How the heat and humidity affect the dyno results, and how all the temperature and humidity parameters can be adjusted for in the computer program for the dyno results. I know that the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) says SAE horsepower must be corrected to 60-degres (F), altitude of -0- (sea level) and humidity corrected to -0- percent). I notice that you conform to SAE gross HP standards when you run the water pump with an electric motor, and so forth. So, most customers want the big number on the dyno, and that calls for SAE gross HP standards.

I could use a Pro Tip. . . And this is right up Nick's Alley.
1989 Dodge D100 with an '86 318 LA. Standard Bore all Stock Valves and Valve train.
    LongTube Jegs Headers
Lunatic Voodoo Hyd. Roller Cam .485 lift on intake and Exhaust.
Intake Duration 211, Exh. Duration 219. 112° Lobe separation and 6 degrees advance on the Cam.
With a 600 cfm Holley 4160 r1850-1 Carb. . . I'm getting a Lot of Popping through the Exhaust while the engine is under load and driving down the street. One of my Mechanic buddies says it's the gas and a Possible vacuum leak. . . .and my old man who helped me build it, Say a Contact on the inside of the HEi Distributor Cap and/rotor. . .

Got to drive the cars otherwise no point in making them run just to sit on a trailer. A car is meant to be enjoyed, driven and yes even beat up a bit if it is a "muscle" car. Why I love this channel these cars look great but more importantly they are driven.

Hey Nick. It was nice to see how just small or minute changes made such a big difference on the dyno. Also i cant believe the owner of the nova didnt tell you where that cut-off switch was located. All you went through to fix it and you get the oh yeah i forgot to tell you where it was..
But as always it is an awesome experience watching your show. You have major network production value. So great job George! Really im surprised some big station like discovery channel hasnt stopped in to offer you guys a huge contract. You guys got it going on. Always fun here. Always fun. And i never want the episodes to stop. Ok i will stop!😁

    A harebrained idea:
From MOPAR Maniac to another......take a 318, bore it out .030 and up the stroke to 4 inches. That will give it 390 cubes out of the seemingly indestructible 318 block. More than likely, you will need heads and intake from the 360 so that it will breathe better, not to mention a 650 to 750 cfm 4-bbl carb.
Let me know what you think about this wacky idea.

You guys need a shirt or design where its just his left arm on the dyno throttle - pushing forward and then a catchy quote under it.. throw that on the back of a T with the nicks garage logo on the front.

For N/A and 6 grand that's not bad. I never dyno'ed my 360 except with computer programs. They told a very similar story from a 360 similarly equipped except it is wound a little tighter. I was a Ford or nothing guy until I did my Duster. I have bought Fords over Dodge new, but I haven't done a Ford hotrod since the Duster. I just keep redoing the Duster. It's down for it's 4th over all and 2nd road race resurrection. Dropping the compression going back to pump gas and will start with 300,000 estimated on the clock.

I love Nick's channel, but on this particular build, I don't understand why you would build a 12.8 to one compression engine, and use a dual plane airgap intake manifold, not to mention the high duration cam shaft.
