- Nick knew his personal 528 Hemi would make some great numbers. But the results he got during these tests defy explanation. How is this even possible?

I'm 70 years old and been a Mopar fan all my life. I've watched tons of Nick's videos, but after watching this one...... I think I've died and gone to heaven!
Smooth idling big bore big hp mopar. Those manifolds not only work well but look great. Nice work!
To see the joy that engine brings you is heartwarming. She is beautiful! One-of-a-kind
An additional 102 cubes, aluminum heads, a more aggressive camshaft, and the manifold's numbers came that close to the headers?? That is truly astounding!!
Great work, Nick!!!!
What is the bore and stroke? Is it a 1 inch stroke increase?
@@robertnaumann7802 I'm not sure, I thought they utilize the 4.15" stroker crank from Mopar, but don't hold me to that. And that would be a .400"
(nearly a half inch) stroke increase from the stock 3.75 inches.
@@robertnaumann7802 I believe when you drop that 4.15 inch crank in a 440 (4.320" bore) you go up to 505 cubes (with +.030" overbore).
@@wedge4hire I did the math: 4.320 bore =14.657 sq inches x 8 cyl - 117.260 sq in for 8 cyl. Divide 117.260 into 528 cu inches - 4.503 stroke.
@@robertnaumann7802 Good work, my friend! Remembering of course, the bore of the 426 Hemi is smaller (4.250") than the bore size on the
440 wedge (4.320"). I did it the easy way: Mopar Performance 528 Hemi utilizes the 4.15" stroker crank but has a bore size of a full 4.5 inches!
I'm sure Nick's setup is similar.
Factory headers without the problems, loose bolts! Engines a beast! Great job nick!
This show is for me. I love the detail. Nick is the greatest
The perfect factory design. Just like the 413 wedge.
Those are such a nicely routed set of manifolds, almost look like headers, I didn’t figure it would lose a lot of power but I thought it’d lose more than it did. Very impressive 👍 you’ll have to beef up the chassis in whatever car it ends up in or you’ll be twisting cars in half!
those manifolds are a work of art .
What an absolute work of art. I was in the hospital for 6 months last year and missed this video. I’m glad you reposted it. Thank you Nick.
Nick , just a beautiful Engine !!! I was glad to see it didn't hardly lose any horsepower or toque . 528 Toque Monster as you say . The people are going to love seeing the 528 setup at the car show . Hope yall will be doing a show from there . All the best Nick .
I know it’s in Canada so 528 toque master makes sense
Those are some slick looking manifolds. And the best part is they REALLY work. This was fun Nick, Thank You for sharing!
They really are works of art the Hemi Cast manifolds.
Another benefit of the cast manifolds is less heat in the engine compartment. Therefore, less heat back through the firewall. Great Job Nick. Wish I could get you to build a stroked 440 for my 86 Dodge Ramcharger. I have a 440 in it, motorhome 76 engine that I rebuilt for cheap gas. I love it.
The interior noise level will be so much better and still have that sound of intense power. And none of that header scrape that happens on some driveways and parking lots. Great job Nick!
Gotta luv Nick's enthusiasm..
Wow Nick, the whole shooting, editing, voice overs just get better and better, just like your engines!
I love this engine even more! Great job Nick, this is such a smooth running engine for such a monster. This is a total sleeper candidate.
This really is amazing. Almost no power loss & just a few pounds of torque?!?! Incredible. Great work guys 🤙
You didn't even comment about how smooth and quiet that monster sounds. It ppurrs like a cat. Very impressive power from this beast.
You are correct. Very smooth and quiet.
Outstanding! Looks beautiful with the manifolds!
I think that the design of the manifolds is the key. I think that the front cylinders blowing past the rears creates a venturi effect drawing gasses out of the rears.
Excellent results those engineers at Mopar were no dummies they knew those exhaust manifolds would flow and they look beautiful those things are awesome headers are a pain in the ass but sometimes can't get power but the exhaust manifolds are much better and it's super simple and they're not going to leak and all that stuff have a great day thanks for doing this
Here is to the great minds who designed these machines.
@@NicksGarage Amen, They ruled he road in the 60's. and dragstrips too.
Nick that 528 Hemi Looks as sweet as it Sounds and Complete with Exhaust Manifolds and NO rear seal leak either with Pretty Impressive numbers too. George that intro and music was fitting for this sweet engine.
Right on!
Wow! I’m blown away , can’t believe it didn’t lose that much .. wasn’t expecting that nick ! Great job as always
You just got to know the stares in the heavens and the gods of Mopar Muscle have come together to Bless Nick and his years of service and dedication for keeping all things muscle alive with this gift of power and torque in HIS 528 HEMI . This is why I call Nick the Wizard of Mopar muscle .
Nicely said
You guys just keep hitting the ball out of the park. Incredible and so exciting to see what is next every week. Nothing compares to Nicks Garage and to the dedication of all the people who care. Thank you
Another Monday and Nick's 528 Hemi, still on the Dyno. I'm very anxious to see what this torque monster can produce with stock exhaust manifolds. Let her rip Nick, This is awesome!!!
Wish you could have been with us in the room, Eugene. This one sounded great.
@@NicksGarage I wished that I could have been there in the Dyno room, I would have enjoyed it for sure, and bought the beer after the dyno session. It sounded awesome last week, and it sounded just as good with the stock exhaust manifolds. I would stay with the stock exhaust manifolds, the power loss was minimal, perfect for a muscle car on the street. It's still a torque monster, and that's what gets a car moving.
@@eugenecastles7475 Would have to fully agree there with you Eugene as it is so true and what's more Nick never sease's to amaze with his builds whether for himself or others.
@eugene: send Nick short video showing your baby at home.
“Torque Monster” = an engine with low horsepower for the torque produced. Almost always due to restrictive heads just like this 528. This engine with a good modern head and cam package would probably make close to, or exceed 700 HP.
those old Chrysler engineers did a great job on those exhaust manifolds. I have always heard that there were certain exhaust manifolds that were just as good as headers, those Heli manifolds, the old 423 max wedge ram horn exhaust and the old chevy big block corvette exhaust manifolds.
Love it, Nick. You know it needs a 70-71 B body to go in now. Then again, that kind of torque would be so cool on a 70 Chrysler 300 Hurst clone.
You always impress me. Nice work as always. Don't ever quit doing what you do. Thanks for taking us along.
Those exhaust manifolds are nice. And the way they are curved seems like would flow pretty good. Nice video Nick!
... G'day Nick,
this 81year old is impressed. I worked for Chrysler Australia in the 60s on the Royal, Vidette, Valiant, Dodge, and Mitsubishi, both at Mile End and later at Tonsley Park in the Paint Shop, driver's side, final colour (no clear in those days).
Cheers mate,
Malcolm.
The factories could design some very good manifolds. I remember reading an Pontiac 455 exhaust manifold vs header test years ago, and the engine only lost a few horsepower and torque at 5200 rpm. They said they almost fell over at the results.
Ford designed free flowing manifolds for its 427 engines. They were recommend over headers too. With probably the same results. Almost no hp loss, but a bit of a torque loss. So you see, the factories didn't always get it wrong.
Nick is like a proud Hemi papa 👍
This is why Hemi's are legendary!!!!!
Another great video Nick! Anything north of 500 cu in is a beast, yours is a Super Beast!
If I Owned the beast, it would be going into a 69 Road Runner! Great work Nick!
A Hemi never gets old A 528 Hemi is only for the bold This is a real hard rocker It's gonna be an astonishing shocker Manifolds fitted like the headers never existed This is how petrol heads get their spirits lifted It's got the humble rumble It's the king of the jungle At Nick's Garage they never fumble or stumble Nick is making proper use of his dynamometer bundle The manifolds for Nick are the correct application Barely lost any power in this situation With whatever you choose you can't lose because a 528 Hemi causes utter devastation Thanks Nick Big ups George Shout out from London
Love your rhymes!
@@jeremiahchamberlin4499 Bless your heart Jeremiah To entertain is my only desire So your kind words lift my spirit higher
Id love to hear your opinion on the Black ghost, such a rare and unique dodge 426 challanger.
CONGRATULATION Nick. THAT is a Very Impressive engine setup. From New Mexico, USA.
Hi Nick and team. That's such minimal losses after fitting manifolds ! And such great looking manifolds, that actually work. You gotta love that Nick
We agree!
You keep at it Nick! Surround yourself with good ppl and don’t slow down! Just beautiful 🤩 Nick !
WOW what a HP MONSTERand with stock Manifolds.....What can i say but Nick you are an engine building expert first class......
Thanks so much 👍
Shoe🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Awesome engine Nick, what a beast! Those are gorgeous exhaust manifolds, heck yeah, factory manifolds is the only way to go!
This 528 Hemi will pull stumps all day long...damn the torque is impressive!
I think the cast iron manifolds flow almost as well as headers but I think the cast-iron has a thermodynamic advantage. So you lose a little efficiency in one respect and gained a little efficiency in another. I love cast iron. Headers cook everything under your hood.
Rock on Nick
Sooo are you saying i should stick with the AMC manifolds for my 360 ? Ive been wanting to get headers for awhile and im working on my manifolds right now.. reason i want headers is the amc 360 is pretty gutless factory and im trying to improve this with headers a new intake and 4 bbl carb
Fantastic job on the build. You've proven again that manifolds are quite sufficient for any street rod. The loss of a couple of horses is a small difference on a big ship.
Nick, You are a world Mechanic.
Those are great numbers with the manifolds on it... Another great vid Nick..
Thanks 👍
sounds amazing
That’s an incredible engine you built Nick. Can’t wait to see it, and you as well as George and your Kowalski Challenger on Saturday 👍🏻
I have watched for years I think this is a favorite George is in sync with Nick A+++ production values
the engineers at Chrysler really understood what needed to happen with the exhaust end of things, what a beast considering the era of its conception thanks Nick.
The small cam really works well with the manifolds. A big solid roller would really wake this baby up.
Love your videos. You're like a doctor for engines. ***** DOCTOR NICK *****
I am not a Mopar guy, but who couldn’t love this engine? Hat off to you, Nick.
2:34 everyone always forgets to tighten those bolts on V belts... but, usually don't see those type of mounts on a serpentine belt set up.
Your youtube channel, imo, seems to be helping your business nicely. Sub since day one keep up the good work.
Very impressive #'s. To me it's not worth the headache of fitting headers in the car all for an extra 8 horsepower and 20 ft-lbs of torque. It's still a monster with more than enough power..
Fantastic engine ! Have a fun and safe trip to Motorama, Nick .
Many thanks!
I absolutely love this stuff.
Even the way you use the dyno.
I'm learning so much.
Thanks man.
Hello from Louisville Kentucky.
What is good about Nick is that when he has some engine problems on the dyno, he doesn't have George shut off the camera. We at home are right there with him as he works to figure out what is going wrong. For instance, just the last engine he had on the dyno, the max wedge, they had distributor problems and he was trying to figure out was going wrong. Other shows on RUclips, they shut off the camera every time they run into a problem. All of us guys know it ain't as simple as some others show it to be. My congrats to Nick for letting us in the dyno room with him.
@Bob: yes that is one of the treats, watching the master diagnose. See where his mind goes. We’re Very lucky.
I agree… those are really beautiful looking manifolds, for such a minimal loss why would you want headers. Actually, I think they look better than headers!
Much better, I'd say.
Much love to Nick and the crew. You guys keep the dream alive!!!
Funny how a lot old Mopar engines fresh or old you need to pump the hell out of the throttle to start them , i have a 318 one cylinder is down a bit , today i started it after a week of it sitting around , i didn't even get in it just turned the key BOOM fired in a sec , no pumping the gas , its a 600 holley , tuned to perfection no puffing smoke . Within 2 to 3 secs click into drive and im off even in winter .
As far as i remember these 528 engines were sold as aftermarket parts to be put together regards ❤️👍
Good evening guys!!!! VERY IMPRESSIVE performance with exhaust manifolds!!!! That’ll make an EXCELLENT street engine for cruising and the occasional ‘boulevard boogie’ should some unfortunate soul decide to ‘call you out’!!!! Terrific piece and great vid work as always, George!!!! Great week to y’all up north!!!!
Great week to you all down south, eh!!!!
@@Mike-ie6ee thanks 😊!!!
@@joeljenkins2876 🙂!!!
Chrysler did their homework on those manifolds !
Regarding engine water temp: I had read somewhere that in NASCAR they run their engines at 195-degrees (F) and they get free HP by running hot. That's what I read.
Sounds wrong, usually cooler produces more power.
Nick,
Fantastic job on the monster Hemi. That's a wonderful engine & incredible output for a stock appearing engine & I'm sure it has great street manners as well. Nothing better than a traditional Hemi.
Giasou Nikola,
What a beast, beast with a capital “ B “.
Watched this episode Wednesday after work with Feta, Home grown tomatoes all washed down with ouzo.
The Greek 🇬🇷 thing to do whilst watching Nick.
Now the Tsipouraki will be coming your way soon.
I just agree with everything Eugene is saying he just writes it so well & he speaks for all of us.
Fantastic result, not very often we hear from you “ This is freaking me out “.
Can’t remember the last time you said it.
Nikola can you please put a side a printed copy of the Dino results with header & with manifold & also a booklet from Motorama if you don’t mind.
I can’t be there in person but I can be there in spirit.
I just need to get to Canada & the USA sooner or later.
All the best in Toronto, safe driving I hope my cousin goes this time.

hi Nick. the man at ViseGrip gauge was working on a charger. he had a maine seal problem. he got with one of the mechanics from a dodge stable in the south .they have an aftermarket seal that is designed for racing. NASCAR Racing. give him a shout out.
love what you do.
I hope you name your newborn beast Frankenstein because you Dr.Nick have definitely created a MONSTER!!!!
Dr. Nick, the new humble rumble KEEPER, that needs a new home, my I suggest a 1970 alpine white Dodge Challenger, with red interior, with a slap stick, have a good time at Motorama in Toronto, George, well done on the video, like the intro, cheers.
I like you Nick LOVE the Hemi, RB style "The Legends" engines.... AND for some odd reason the 528 seems to be the perfect balance from the 426 all the way to the 572! Just, don't know why or what it has about it, but shoulders deep into one a couple different ones and just a "WOW" engine! GREAT dyno stuff!!!! LOVE IT!
Just got myself a cup of coffee and now I'm going to set back and listen to the music of this monster HEMI.
A good pair of manifolds for sure, thing is the way castings work or are made no two will be identical so could be why less loss of power. this was a great set . congrats on the great work. as a side note Smokey Yunick invented a way to internally sand blast manifolds and heads with a sand pump basicly , later used by detroit on some motors and is called extrude honing.
It's done in Pittsburgh P.A. now.
Love Nick's videos wish I could hang
Out with the guys and witness him unleash the beast! That cam is nice!
Melling....made in the USA. All these people having lifter failure , I think these are the ones to buy. Great outcome Nick.
those OEM Hemi manifolds are some of the best designs ever - not surprised they lost so little performance. No way I would put headers on a Mopar Hemi car with the way the OEM perform
My only complaint, from my husband. Too many 90° fuel fittings on the carbs. Says it’s a big no no. ✌🏻 Love your channel.
Most manufactures had special manifolds for high performance. On a street car that is driven they make a lot of sense. Loose bolts, rust, exhaust gasket leaks are nonexistent.
Our 1972 Pontiac T/A has manifolds we had ceramic coated. We think it is the best long-term solution. Plus, ground clearance is not an issue either.
That is a Monster, like to see that launch and hook in a car with sticky drag slicks. It would be pretty brutal on a stock drivetrain.
I guess next time I watch this, I won't comment on the video before it is finished. This whole video is amazing from beginning to end! It just amazes me how little difference the manifolds made by comparison to the headers. Agreed, keep the manifolds! No hassles or worries about fitment.
I was thinking that Nick was keeping the engine at over 2000RPM at idle. Then he brought it down to 1600 (which I thought was lower limit..) THEN he brought it down to 1000 WITH Vacuum!
That is one AMAZING engine!
Congratulations Nick and George! 🍻
Thank you !!
I recon the manifold fit easier than extractors, sounds like a sweet engine, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Ford an Chevy can only dream . 👍🏻💯🇦🇺
Ford did it with the 427ci SOHC hemi and got banned for it and Chevy did it with the L88, ZL1, LS6 and LS7 big blocks.
Na they can all do this kind of HP.
About to say Kasse heads on a stock size 460 can put out close to these numbers. Happy for Nick though.
Hi Brian and Glenda this isn't a real fair comparison but a boss 429 with a proper Cam and carburetor is really really impressive However to be fair they were not nearly as good as the 426 right out of the factory and on the street. And to be fair and be an equal comparison you are correct.
Yep,their stuff didn't get banned by Nascar for being too powerful...lol .
the thick cast iron of the manifolds holds in the heat of the exhaust gasses in the passages, so even though long tube large Dia. headers made slightly more torque, headers radiate more heat away from the pipes, cast iron manifolds keep more heat in the pipes and THAT increases velocity, resulting in more power. If the headers were smaller Dia. or smaller collectors etc they would probably make less power than the cast iron factory manifolds, which are essentially cast iron headers anyway. Awesome test!
You’ve got a hell of a good drone pilot.
Ive been sold on Melling for decades, always a quality product - used many Melling oil pumps in my Chevy engines and they always performed 110%
Awesome Elephant!
Only at Nick`s Garage!

528 cubic inches? Can't get my head around that in these days of 100 cubic inch econoboxes. The sound of that huge V8 revving out to 6,000rpm like that is spine chilling.
Gotta love it when a plan comes together
That’s why the hemi was so good in a stock form. Great manifolds and air cleaner
Great job with "THE BEAST" 528 HEMI, I was sure that it would lose more hp and torque than it did, headers definitely aren't worth the trouble for anything running on the street. Save the headers for the track runners. Sure wished I could be at Autorama, have fun and be proud
Not too bad boys!!! Very impressive!!!!! Congratulations on this build!!!!
That motor sounds like it means business. 👍
What a Magnificent Engine!
Nick; you never cease to amaze us! I wonder what the power would have been with the air cleaner back on? Maybe even try it with the base only. Good luck!
That’s a badass motor my friend!
What a beautiful beast! Congratulations with the success of making this beast!
