This. I’m a PlayStation player who just got the game. I was never into melee combat games later SF8 or MK11. So learning this guide really helped now I just gotta incorporate this into my gameplay, along with dodging for the I-frames.
This is a great tutorial that sheds light on the combat system from a high skill perspective. The biggest issue for me as someone is just starting to play ranked, the bots are absolutely frustrating. Sometimes they are easy to fight, and other times they are full-on auto aim auto counter killing machines that can pick you out of a bush. Hopefully it won't take long to get into full real player lobbies so I can actually practice these techniques lmao.

Ah, thanks for the guide! Just like the combat guide, I feel like I'm gonna come back to this a couple times down the road. I am wondering what to do when you aren't the first to hold blue? In my mind there should be three options: 1. Genuinely trying to predict what the enemy will do and reacting to that - that I realize should be exactly what the enemy want if they are really holdchecking. 2. Playing safe by dodging out before enemy can do a 1.0 release - punishable by dodge plus vertical just as specified in the guide 3. Seed wrong impressions, e.g. actually parrying once at 1.0 timing but then not doing it again - depending on what you do, this could also backfire hard. I guess it all comes back to that as you aren't the one to hold first, you lost initiative, thus are just reacting to the opponent now which is a bad situation to be in. I don't see an elegant way of dealing with it for now :'D
@@Penemue Right, kinda mentally dismissed that as "some ideas" not being a complete answer. But a reviewing makes me think that it actually is for the purpose of my question, so thanks again. What I distill from that is using a light or ranged attack, I take back the initiative to bait the enemy to react to me instead.
Would you ever consider making a series or a guide on how to go about fighting each weapon/punishing them? If you ever do make any I’d really appreciate it!
What? These decimals are confusing. What exactly is ".9s"? and how would you tell? I'm not used to fighting game lango, so these terms make zero sense to me.
@@Guilty132 ah, 0.9 (think i added an 's' to make plural) is what some people call releasing at the earliest possible time, which is slightly before the blue flash & audio cue.
You can dodge less reliably and you will red flash against more enemy attacks. But enemies will also red flash more against you and you can juggle people higher, which means you can do more crazy combos and the timings are very generous for keeping enemies in combos.
@@Penemue In other guides, especially in combo guides, people often praise the higher ping that they play on. E.g. the apparent sweet spot of 55-70 ping. Your answer to me here sounds more like you think that there is a tradeoff, and not an inherent advantage?
@@Darksaber96 it's a tradeoff. some people say around 40 ping is optimal because you have the best of both worlds. i am personally on 15-20 ping and i can dodge things other players can't dodge, but i have to be extremely precise with combos (e.g. longsword blue juggle) or else i'll miss them. and certain combos are unavailable to me.
So just to clarify, the 1.0 would be when the blue focus does it 1st "ding" right? So then .5 would be considered a half charge and 2.0 would be a full hold or 2nd ding of the blue focus?
Yeah pretty much. Though halfcharge can be anything from 0.1 to 0.9, the term is perhaps a bit misleading. But “less than full charge” sounds silly, so we call it halfcharge.
Hi heaven! Duos question - should I also focus on holding longer blue attacks and parrying like in trios? I seem to get beaten up by one guy with light attacks and the other guy hitting me with focus attacks. And sometimes I can't rely on teammates to peel for me immediately.
