  • Special Warfare Candidate Course or SWCC (pronounced "SWICK") is the first stop on your road to being part of AFSPECWAR for a career.
A short bus ride from the Air Force Basic Training Parade Field, you'll be the only Airman in your peer group to be treated like a Division One Athlete. But at SWCC? From the second you get to your living space.
Trent and Peaches dig deep into it all. Curriculum, spaces, what to expect- and most importantly what does this mean for YOU, those in DEP and preparing to talk to your recruiter. This one is big and full of changes, so don't blink. Cause then you wouldn't be able to see Trent. And even for a second, that's not cool.
Thanks to you all. We are really grateful for you.

Anyone joining USAF Special Warfare for TACP, you better be able to swim just as good as the PJ, SR, and CCT candidates. You have to do all the same swimming. We didn’t know that and were completely unprepared and I pretty much drowned everyday. Everyone will do the 25m Rifle Swim, gear ditch, underwaters (up to full OCPs), 10-ups, buddy breathing, mask and snorkel recovery up to 20m in full OCPs, treading for up to 10-15 minutes with hands in water, treading for four minutes with fins hands out of water, and surface swimming specifically freestyle. Get good at all of this even if you want to be TACP if you want this course to be easier.

Hey Jim, I am training at home right now; just training in a little 5 foot 30 meter back yard pool, i dont really have any good public pools near me,, will this be a problem when I get to the pool phase? Like is there any reason that I should be training in a deeper pool? Also What are 10 ups?
      Thanks.

@Jim Pickens I guess to ask it in an easier way, is it enough to practice holding my breath, and swimming back and forth in this little pool?

I gotta say that I retired as an E-6 after 22 years (by choice believe it or not) and had to say that I had a few pet-peeves myself and I could definitely be an @ss-hole on occasion. At least from my point of view it was for a very real REASON. Mostly it was a safety thing or at least a discipline issue. Uniform stuff was something I really couldn't wind myself up to care all that much about with the exception of the real blatant stuff. I think that time in our lives is related more to your age experience rather than rank. During my stint as an instructor I knew how to deliver this "coaching moment" that wasn't condescending, for the most part. With 'things' getting stuck in one's head I can totally relate...as I get further and further over the half-century mark the more I find that things between the ears seem to be getting a little 'frayed'. At work I need a minimum of either/or 45 degrees of turn and/or 9 feet of travel before I've got to reset on "what I came in here to do". Yeah, I get why Trent came on to do an apology or whatever but truly...what's in a name? I remember Jerry Souls (sp?) and THAT guy Is just AWESOME. He would give us a talk about water-con there at the start just before the underwaters and after he gave us an inspirational speech (maybe 3-5 minutes at most) we were READY to GO! It didn't matter how badly/well the rest of the day went...we were READY.

The topic of duty stations at the beginning is interesting sirs! Is it possible for you to shed some light on how difficult/easy it would be to request to be stationed as an SR/CCT/STO for your 1st station overseas at the 320th/321st? Asking for a friend…. & this friend may or may not be my wife who is praying if the day comes it’s one of these locations. 😅

    • @OnesReady

It is possible to go overseas for your first duty station, it’s part of your preference list. Ideally though you want a stateside assignment first to gain experience before heading overseas.

I always saw the position of senior leadership or command ( at least in LE, I didn’t get to senior leadership I the military). Was to occupy a rung on the blame chain. IE, giving the guys someone to call/ point at to say “ he approved it”. That’s what I see my position as, to provide guidance and direction to my troops, and to accept the blame from on high when something doesn’t go to plan. I’ve always told them if they have an issue to push it up the blame chain to me, maybe I’ve dealt with an issue like this before, perhaps I’ve got some ideas, if nothing else you pushed it up to me and I accept the responsibility if something goes wrong.

@@wkingp2755 SARCs start out as general duty HMs (8400), then get FMF qualified (8404), then select for Recon. The Navy medical pipeline is more patient care oriented. The PJ curriculum is more "technical rescue/personnel recovery" with paramedic on top for good measure. They take care of people getting rescued. SARCs go in to the field with, and take care of, the Marines in their unit (and others, of course). Quite a different focus - SARC training won't include auto/aircraft extrication, rope rescue, and a bunch of other stuff that PJs do. You'll have to pick those up later, if you want that. The thing that I like about the PJ career field (I'm an ex corpsman HM2) is that the PJs have a real mission whether there is a war or not. SARCs, unless there is a war, will be training with their Marines.

    • @OnesReady

Technically yes, they could do all of that and not get selected, but it’s rare. It would be based on character flaws identified by the psych stuff and peer reviews.
