I've enjoyed Drakes music for many years, but dropping an album as generic as this off the back of Kanye releasing an album as experimental and conceptually intriguing as donda is a huge mistake.
Yeah Drake made a massive mistake that is going to have a big impact on his legacy
m.ruclips.net/video/nvCRUmLceV0/видео.html CLB review
This is so true. I was expecting Drake to evolve and progress with his sound (or a new one) but instead he regurgitated every Drake-ism there is and it didn't pay off.
Nove 91 the last strong project he produced was views, but I'd even go as far to say he peaked with if you're reading this it's to late. Ever since he hasn't really taken many risks or creative liberties with his music. He has established a sound that means he will always top charts and have his music played in dancehalls across the globe, but his music feels hollow now and lacks substance now. It's sad to see him walk this path as someone who really enjoyed past projects. He has stagnated creatively.
itstoshii an apt summary, 'drake gonna do drake'
I love how he is like music is obviously objective and can only be defined by one man and that is fantano 😭

As a drake fan Im heavily disappointed with this album this was filled with fillers even though there were heavy features. Can't believe im saying this but donda beats clb even though donda is a gospel album. Drizzy cmon man...

"Filled with fillers" 😂
Donda isn’t a gospel album I can tell you’re a drake fan
You speak the truth. I started CLB and wasn't enjoying it, and actually went back to Donda to help hype me up in order to finish this new Drake album. The CLB is a miss. 🪦🪙
@@JSchlo401 SAAAAAAAAMMMEEEE 😂
I'm not gonna lie: I'm massively disappointed in this album. The whole thing is just so f*cking generic, especially coming off the heels of DONDA where almost every track was wholly unique. This album is basically just Drake flexing on everyone, which gets so repetitive after a while. The best tracks (of which there are few) are the ones where he actually opens up a bit and stops flexing.
It feels like someone fed an AI every single Drake record in existence and told it to make an album.
I'm just disappointed man, I was expecting so much more from him.
Can’t agree more
Really? I thought it was pretty good. Although I didn’t expect too much…
*This is the best explanation I’ve seen thus far* I got bored of dancehall and venting Drake after the first 6 tracks - - then that “I’m Too Sexy” Track started and I had to call the suicide hotline - - and the person who answered the phone to prevent my suicide had just heard the track and we both empathised with how ASS that song was and we talked each other outta suicide.
Jokes aside - this whole thing is a letdown. I didn’t wanna compare but *DONDA* had every track be unique.
Agree bro. Too repetitive at times and not as unique as donda
dont understand why he even flexes on people like bruh ur rival ye is at least 10x ur net worth

The biggest joke is that Laugh Now Cry Later, Wants and Needs, Toosie Slide, Chicago Freestyle, POPSTAR are all better than any track on here.

True . I was so hyped for this but after

I don’t know why but I’m unable to associate with the album. The album art killed half the vibe for me, it is nothing related to the CLB trailer or his collabs with Nike & Chrome Hearts.
I was looking forward to hearts, roses, cupid and beautiful cursive writing but what we got were emojis of 12 pregnant women.
Also there was no trace of production from Boi 1-da on the entire album, hope that there’s no hard feelings or beef amongst Drake and him that we don’t know of.
I need to give it a couple of listens to understand it more closely.
I am not saying that the album is a dud but for now I would rank Scorpion higher than CLB.
I was waiting for this, there was a lot of hype... don't care about Ye and Drake's problems that's none of my business and I don't actually care. I care about the music itself, but this has to be a joke. Goofy cover art, boring production... it was such a boring listen. I think it’s kinda dumb to compare Donda and CLB since to me they’re both really different albums. CLB was primarily a rap album while Donda was more of a gospel mix and more towards his mother. For a person who enjoys both kanye and drake, I REALLY didn’t have a problem with both albums. Both of them had some skips, but tbh I again didn’t have a problem and had a fun time listening to both. So I’m not gonna compare them or say who’s better than who, all Imma say is that both are really good with what they do and did well with these albums
This is the comment i was looking for
Agreed with your take
Naturally the comparisons will be made, which I myself have done in this very comment thread. The comparisons stem from the beef between the two artists, which flared up in the lead up to both releases and the way in which it was framed within the media that both albums were competing with one another. And yes they are two wildly different projects, Donda is very soulful and does draw upon a lot of gospel influence and I'd go as far as to say the album is much more personal than CLB. Whilst CLB is very much the same Drake we've all become used and in some cases numb to, as for me personally he hasn't really taken any strides in improving his artistry and he has become somewhat risk averse. It's not as experimental or creative as Donda, but that doesn't mean to say there aren't tracks on here I don't enjoy. For me the album in its entirety is a disappointment, but I'd agree there's certainly grounds for listeners to enjoy both projects.
We know donda better tho, wished drakes matched the energy of some of his features

Spot on with the skepta reference
After reeling in my expectations, I can appreciate it for what it is a bit more, which is another Drake album, in the same way Culture 3 was another Migos album. I don’t think it’s a stand out in his discography, but it’s listenable and it’s distinctly his sound. I guess what I was hoping for was some more maturity (idk why lol). Thematically he stays in a very boyish place and sonically it’s very on brand.
In the first half, outside of the intro, he steps back and big brothers most of the features, which comes off as lazy rather than grandiose here. I also feel like the high energy songs fall flat, although I appreciate a break from his subtle, monotonous delivery. Don’t get me wrong, he can sound completely unenthused and still kill it, but both the vocals and the wavy instrumentals had me waiting for something to heat up.
When he’s up to plate in the latter half, there might not be any home runs (just my opinion), but he hits the ball and the points add up. Definitely more variety on this end of the project, and less diminishing returns by the end of each song. I enjoyed most of these tracks. He sits all the way back for Yebba which pays off, and there are a couple decent lyrical showcases after that. I think the closer ties off an album nicely, but it feels out of place. It doesn’t feel like the proper ending of THIS album.
My mistake was coming into it expecting the celebration of a decade at the top, but the title and the cover art give away everything and nothing. This is a culmination of his experience as an artist, not a victory lap. He knows how he is perceived and plays it up while making sure to reinforcing his status. There’s a lot to attribute to his prior endeavors, but he’s not taking it too seriously. If you don’t take it too seriously either, you’ll have fun. Still, he’s gonna be all over the air waves and I’m sure my Sherlock analysis will have turned to Stockholm’s by then.
