I guess I haven't been listening to the opinions of other people over the last day so I didn't realize how polarizing this album was going to be. For me, this man aired his thoughts, feelings, and experiences out in such a way that the average person couldn't even dream up doing. It is put together so well and he tells the story that he wants to tell. It's a blessing to be able to peek in on his mind and the people he works with minds. If a fan doesn't enjoy the rawness of that, just move along. Idk... I get wanting to vibe to something less emotional during some moments but Kendrick has produced plenty of bangers that a fan can revisit and there is also a multitude of music to listen to if a fan isn't happy with the art he produces. This is my first album that I have witnessed as a Kendrick fan the day that it dropped. And the fact that this is so good makes me so happy and left with no doubts when it comes to Kendrick being my GOAT
I hate the fact that so many people call this album "boring" compared to previous Kendrick, but I feel like Kendrick expected a response like this. It definitely feels like one of his most if not the most revealing and emotional out of any Kendrick Lamar album, which a lot people just don't feel the need to listen to or comprehend, leaving them to miss out on so many of the important layers and intricate details that Kendrick crafted for this album. I feel bad for the people who haven't given this album a listen, as the lyrics and melodies are so well crafted to a degree that in some cases it can even provide life-changing perspectives. Love the reaction Quadeca, I can really tell you put a lot of thought into music just like Kendrick. It's people who are as dedicated as you and Kendrick that should succeed in the game, so I'm glad you got recognition for Scrapyard even if you personally don't believe it's your best. ♥
Quadeca you are actually my favorite artist. From me to you really touched and helped me in a dark place in my life. I can't wait for your new album. You have a lot of greatness ahead of you!!
It seems that opinions have been fairly mixed on this album but I personally loved it. Kendrick definitely got super personal on here which I love, explored some new topics, great and varied production, and a solid concept that I think will only get better with time. Definitely preferred the second side to the first but they’re both great. Probably a 9-10/10 imo need more listens to solidify. Favorite tracks: Mirror, Mother I sober, Mr Morale, auntie diaries, Father Time, untitled in grief
To be fair, that's fairly normal for a Kendrick album. People had mixed opinions on TPAB when it came out, a lot of people thought it was pretentious and they didn't like the jazz elements. Then when DAMN. came out, people were divided on that too. A lot of people said it was boring, too commercial, not experimental enough. So people being mixed on this one is par for the course
I like the album but to me the s wasn't worth a five year wait. But (I know it sounds like I'm coping lol) I think this COULD be him playing around as a comeback to finish his contract for TDE and he releases a more developed one soon on pglang. I also think this cause Kodak only recorded his stuff in later 2021, and kendrick was supposedly planning to drop 2020 so idk what is happening with the pre 2020
Cool snippet. I will spend the next decade decoding exactly what each chord means and what emotion it has historically given to every song it’s in. I will find every lyric you will sing and every topic you will touch on. Based on the chords I will find out from intense studies of music history what track number the song is most likely from. I will then see what themes or ideas are most common on that track number. Thank you again.
@@khalilcole2383 Cool comment. I will spend the next few months contemplating how you could think those two things are correlated. Historically, people make generalizations such as these when the thing you are mentioning relates to the original subject. Based on the words you used in the combination you used them, I’m aware of what they mean. I’m also aware that unless you are simply not thinking straight, it is strange. I may soon in the coming months come to a conclusion or finding of what correlation the two things have. Thank you, but you confuse me. Good luck on your own studies.

People didn’t get what they wanted and if they don’t like it that’s okay. Everybody that I’ve seen that really listens to music or Kendrick understands that he’s an artist and will do whatever tf he wants. Which is why he’s great in the first place lol
@@Medeovcra1 absolutely. but i’ve seen some absolutely horrendous takes like saying this albums best song is the worst on TPAB. shit that doesn’t make sense. then again. it’s the internet and half of this place is made up of people with no cognitive function whatsoever 💀

I feel like after the humble and DNA became big hits some people expected kendrick to drop a mainstream trap album but he went fully experimental which is great for people who don't want repetetive regular stuff that we hear everyday. maybe that's why there's lot of mixed reviews here and there but i'm pretty sure this one's gonna age great as people listen to it more and become more fimiliar with these sounds.
People hate what they don’t understand. They probably expected something on the level of family ties. But the way this album was made and how personal it was I knew right away it wasn’t going to be bars or spiritual lyrical miracle. I love the album and give it a 8. But it def needs a couple more listens.
You’ve got one of the only reactions out here that seems to get it with the album. Like you GET IT and that alone made me love your reaction, this album is very personal and like he made it as therapy like you said. I think for a first listen you got it down pretty good. Keep it up bro! Thanks for the great reaction.
Quad I’m on my 3-4 listen and your breakdowns were phenomenal. This album has already grown on me. Some incredible production, fantastic writing, storytelling was incredible, pop bangers, and some super emotional cuts too. Right now I rate it an 8.5/10 I think it’s great right now. Much love Quad hope you take care!
Me and friends weren't major fans on our first listens. I feel like we were expecting tpab 2. But as I listen to the album more and more I keep finding new favorite songs. Crown, Count me out, United in Grief, Mother I sober, Mirror, just on and on every song starts to catch me and I realize this is an instant classic. Kendrick has done it again.
coming back to this video so much later and it's crazy to see quad in this IDMTHY era. you can see how he was getting thinner and his hair was getting longer. he had footage for his album and he put a little clip of it in this video. he's using the camera that he used for the footage for his album with the retro style video quality. him focusing on the production of mr morale and the little details of it and just the song in general showing how he was so enfatuated with the details and it really shows on IDMTHY with all the beautiful and complex details of each song throughout the album. IDMTHY was my album of the year for 2022 without a single doubt in my mind. quad ur music is amazing and so are you.
a year later but i noticed this too. so interesting to see how he was thinking and you can tell what he thought was important and incorporated into his own music. super cool
A lot of people couldn't appreciate Crown for what it was, and that poetic feel it brought really needs a patient, open mind to understand. You reviewed the album really well, love how you tried to be in shoes the whole time 🙌🏼
It honestly just bums me out that there are people out there that will never appreciate this album. It, along with other kendrick albums are the only thing with as much weight in the game as Tupac if you ask me. But even pac wasn't able to reach everyone so that's just life. Music is different to all people, what people want out of it varies, and there's just some types of thought process that people don't want to interface with. I think there is a lot of jealousy out there as well. Kendrick is real and he is different. He shatters trends and transcends.
Albums been out for like 2-3 days and you're already writing like this lmaooo. So concerned about how other people feel about this album. Youre the average 14 year old HHT anime pfp user
You really putting this album higher than every other piece of work in hip hop other than Pac? This is surface level stuff from Kendrick and it’s disrespectful to ignore all of the past great hip hop albums and place this higher than all of them. You need to listen to more hip hop if you think this is near the best this genre has produced. The overall concept, topics he discusses and lyrics are nowhere near hip hops best, let alone the production which is good in some parts of the album, and shocking in other parts. Not a bad album by any means but TPAB, GKMC, Section 80, DAMN, his EP, OD, even his untitled unmastered is FAR superior to this album. There’s more in conscious hip hop than just Kendrick, Pac, B.I.G, I suggest you try and listen to other artists.
Love these album reviews, definitely the most insightful ones next to fantano. Also this albums production is insane, every song sounds completely different to the others, this was a crazy project from kendrick, expectations crushed.
Incredible album, incredible review. These types of albums are supposed to be lived with for years as new facets reveal themselves to you. But that being said you did a great job of bringing us into your initial reaction to it and the enthusiasm you bring in these videos is clear to see. Looking forward to your next album man
This was honestly so unexpected for me. To me Kendrick has always been kind of lacking in some aspects of self-awareness as far as how he affects the world and his place in it, but this album showed so much growth and honesty from someone who already was more socially aware than most. I think the most shocking moment was when he brought up how he brought the white girl up on stage, I think about that often but I honestly never expected to hear about it from him. To think that it also affects him heavily, to him admitting to cheating on his wife and hate-fucking white girls, to him realizing he might have some unealized hatred for white people, to him realizing how generational trauma destroys the culture so much as those with even the best intentions (his mother) unknowingly do long-lasting catastrophic damage without even knowing it or meaning to. This album was so touching and wild and unexpected and I think it exposes a lot of his fake-deep woke fans who are now hating on it as this is a clear progression from his ideas on previous albums. Really loved this one.
Album felt so much like a play or theatre production. Stripped back in the sense of all feeling like live instruments, the footsteps, the lines often being read like poems and speeches, it gets better every listen.
This album is so fucking amazing brings a tear to my eye. It’s hard to bring light on topic without being too woke now days and with these time compare to 2016 Kendrick last release it’s crazy how this holds up and it’s even better than DAMN. I’ve been saying this and going to say this, this Album is a mixture between TPAB & GKMC the story telling is just so fluent. Couple songs miss for me but 9/10 !
For me, the album was an 9/10, I was really surprised by the comments and hate people had on this album. There are definitely some "weird" songs in my opinion, like "We Cry Together". My favorites: Mirror, N95, United in Grief and Savior Ps: Big Fan from Germany 🇩🇪✌🏾
I like how Shawn Cee said it: it's very good conceptually and it's a very personal album for Kendrick, but it's far less "entertaining" or musically / tonally listenable than Damn and his other albums. I think The Heart pt 5 could've helped this album's sonic appeal
after listening to we cry tofether again, i have since changed my opinion, def will not go on any playlists though. this album is really replayable i feel though, such a great vibe and a reallt relatable feeling
@Jeff's Royal Body Guard like my first reaction was laughing my ass off even though this type of thing is really sad tho. It’s almost not music, it’s more like acting and it was incredible
nah that album make me wanna quit music, the crazy production, the flows, the message, the heavy crazy unpredictable instruments and vocals, the whole thing was amazing.
Some artist are just so good it discourages you, which kind of sucks sometimes. I make mostly electronic so listening to space laces music is almost disheartening knowing i will never be able to make music as incredible as him
OK this is the best album review I've seen. It's perfect. Like u let the music play long enough 4 us to feel as if we heard the song without it being too long, & ur giving ur review perfectly as far as time goes
Worldwide steppers is one of my favorite songs on the album. The meaning behind his lyrics are very powerful; they highlight his struggles with his own racism and his deep hatred for the capitalist society we live in. All of his lyrics about slow killers is him saying that even the church goer who participates in capitalism or any sort of beneficial charity indirectly is contributing to the poverty of other human beings. These humans in poverty then slowly get killed overtime by the environment their forced to live in and the limited or unhealthy materials and goods they have access to. We all some killers bitch. We all contribute to the slow killing of other humans because of the society we live in. Yet, at the end of the day, the same people who don’t realize this are the ones who are hating Kendrick for putting Kodak on the album. That’s the whole fucking point, we some killers, if you can forgive yourself you can forgive Kodak and Kendrick. We some killers she a killer hes a killer bitch.
First to admit it, i started listening to Kendrick because of the beef. I had heard kf him, hes been on a few features of artist i listen to. DAMN. Was so good, that Mr. Moral and the Big Steppers scafed me to listen. I had this same experience with Hozier's Unreal Unearthed. (When I finally listen to that album, i was weeping MESS. I could not crying.) I slowly worked my my way through Mr. Moral. Took me a week as i digested the songs amd his word. Father Time reminded me of my father. Stern man, but I love him. Taught me right. Auntie Daries and Mother I sober also made me cry.
This album gets better like wine over time. At first I was hit by it hard. I didn't love the music the way I loved his previous songs. But fuck me, it hit me hard. Over time as I listen, It's become like gospel to me. It soothes my soul in a way I can't describe.
quads explanation of how he liked how alternative sounding united in grief is was awesome to hear post scrapyard. quad was talkin bout how but he loved the unsettling unique sound of that song, which totally set the mood for the album, and all i could think about was how his words applied to scrapyard imo. ah musics great
This reminds me of a conversation I had with another person. We were discussing when is the time to talk about black issues. When addressing police shootings if you said black on black crime ppl would say ur deflecting and they weren’t completely wrong; however, I think this the kick in the ass our community needed. This will get the TPAB treatment. Ppl will say it’s trash then say it’s the most artistic album of all time in 5 weeks
I feel that this an album that is art not music, even tho its music. its an album that has more meaning than just to be listened to. Its a "weird" album that isn't made for enjoyment but for Making you think, its an album that is made to Make you go Holy shit. Not about a song, a beat, a lyric, but about the entire album as a whole about the meaning behind the songs.
Seeing a lot of mixed reactions but this album is actually really nice. It’s like one big therapy session and it has a bit of everything so you can’t be mad at him for trying something new and still killing it! 🔥 not a perfect album, but definitely a great body of work. As Kendrick said, he is not anybody’s savior and people gotta stop treating him like a god. Yes, he’s insanely talented and perhaps the best artist of our generation, but that doesn’t mean he can’t choose his own well-being over everything else. He talked about this in the last track too and I think he did a great job of conveying different sides of his psyche. Some people just hating for no reason. Was a great album. People just gotta chill out and stop expecting so much from artists who are just people at the end of the day.
That piano in rich interlude is very much because of the input of duval timothy, who has production credit up and down this project. Have loved his work for a bit, was cool seeing him in this context.
I was feeling like this album had elements from his last 3 albums throughout it so I'm glad to see others felt that as well.

Unpopular opinion: This album is so good that I now understand how DAMN. can be perceived as a 7. Cuz I feel like this is just that far ahead of DAMN in terms of quality. Maybe not better than TPAB but I feel like theirs a conversation to be had there tbh
DAMN was overrated asf when it came out bc the "oh shit, new Kendrick effect" was taking over. Damn was Kendrick trying too hard to do his worst habit- act like a saviour. This is my first album that I have witnessed as a Kendrick fan the day that it dropped. And the fact that this is so good makes me so happy and left with no doubts when it comes to Kendrick being my GOAT
Damn was my first album in real time and it was amazing. For some reason it just doesn’t feel the same this time.
@@firebagel2936Cuz Kendrick is versatile, simple answer.
Who's mixed on this album? This album is phenomenal.
@@N-Khal I’ve seen a ton of different takes tbh
To be fair, that's fairly normal for a Kendrick album. People had mixed opinions on TPAB when it came out, a lot of people thought it was pretentious and they didn't like the jazz elements. Then when DAMN. came out, people were divided on that too. A lot of people said it was boring, too commercial, not experimental enough. So people being mixed on this one is par for the course
Oh no, it’s NBA Backcourt Media again

This album is a 10 outta 10. So many good songs. People just annoyed they don't got something like a bitch don't kill my vibe, money trees, poetic justice ect for the summer for parties and shit which ain't what rap is always supposed to be lmfao you should really hear the wack ass shit they listen to non stop anyway. His best album

Same here and we have the same taste it seems cause these are my favs too
coming back to this video so much later and it's crazy to see quad in this IDMTHY era. you can see how he was getting thinner and his hair was getting longer. he had footage for his album and he put a little clip of it in this video. he's using the camera that he used for the footage for his album with the retro style video quality. him focusing on the production of mr morale and the little details of it and just the song in general showing how he was so enfatuated with the details and it really shows on IDMTHY with all the beautiful and complex details of each song throughout the album.

You reviewed the album really well, love how you tried to be in shoes the whole time 🙌🏼
Crown’s piano beat is painful to listen to. So many mid piano beats on this album just sink its foundations for the lyrics on top of it.

@@hosuli123 and you the avg yb fan

Incredible album, incredible review. These types of albums are supposed to be lived with for years as new facets reveal themselves to you. But that being said you did a great job of bringing us into your initial reaction to it and the enthusiasm you bring in these videos is clear to see. Looking forward to your next album man
I loved the album. It felt so personal and different. Kendrick is legendary and never seizes to impress.
That x on your pp?
Some of those camera shots Quad was doing were similar to fantasyworld on the movie album with the fireworks.
Great breakdown👍🏽
Congrats unlike all these Teenagers and young dumb fuckers you actually listened analyzed and understood . good job
He never lacked self awareness. He just didn’t want us to put him on a pedestal.
@@johntimothy9757 you said exactly what i was thinking. great way to put it man.

Can’t believe I didn’t find this video until now. This is so wholesome
For me, the album was an 9/10, I was really surprised by the comments and hate people had on this album. There are definitely some "weird" songs in my opinion, like "We Cry Together".
My favorites: Mirror, N95, United in Grief and Savior
Ps: Big Fan from Germany 🇩🇪✌🏾
I like how Shawn Cee said it: it's very good conceptually and it's a very personal album for Kendrick, but it's far less "entertaining" or musically / tonally listenable than Damn and his other albums. I think The Heart pt 5 could've helped this album's sonic appeal
after listening to we cry tofether again, i have since changed my opinion, def will not go on any playlists though. this album is really replayable i feel though, such a great vibe and a reallt relatable feeling

0:59 - Referencing BBLs 2 years ago. Dude. Youre a wizard.

I could not crying.)
I slowly worked my my way through Mr. Moral. Took me a week as i digested the songs amd his word. Father Time reminded me of my father. Stern man, but I love him. Taught me right. Auntie Daries and Mother I sober also made me cry.
loved this review. truly an album for the ages

This is what music is supposed to be
Da goat has returned, now we wait for quad to drop his album and 2022 is the year of GOATED music
Mother I Sober still gets me emotional.
