*@lanteanboy* said it was a perfect _performance._ There are 3 scoring categories in current Barbershop contests: Singing, Music, and _Performance_ (at the time of _this_ contest, this was called “Presentation” but was renamed because too many people thought that it was solely about the visual aspect).
“Spidrr-Farm" by *Midtown* in 2023, with *KJ* who’d been the Bari of *Lunch Break,* won the contest with not only 97% overall, but for the 1ˢᵗ time ever, a 💯% _perfect_ score in the Performance category!
Understand what this means. Barbershop Harmony Society judges are trained in their judging fields. They can only give a 💯 score if the judge honestly can't think of any way it could’ve been improved in that category. At international contests there are 5 judges per category to help average out any outlier scores. This means that _all 5_ Performance category judges honestly thought that there was _no way_ to improve that performance! That had _never happened before!_
From what I read, they briefly conferred with each other at the judges' table right in front of the stage and 1 of them asked in effect, “Imagine that they hire you to coach them on their performance of this song. What advice would you give them to make it even better?” and others said, “I can’t think it a thing!" “Me neither.” And then, “Are we _doing_ this? Are we _really doing_ this‽” And all 5 wrote down 💯. A truly _perfect_ *performance.*
(The other 10 judges in the other 2 categories did find a _little_ room for improvement in the Singing and Music, but the _Performance_ was *perfect* in the literal sense.)
