I loved The Pirates of Darkwater, it really deserved to carry on! I'd be dubious about seeing anyone pick it up now though, save maybe an anime studio who would respect it's origins.
I have never heard of this show and I grew up in the 90's. As for a reboot well, in today world it would be a very bad idea. Look what Hollywood did to Scooby Doo and so many other franchisees that were originally kid friendly.
Scooby-doo was hijacked by an ugly, vengeful, bitter woman that used the franchise as a vehicle to boost her own sad little ego. It's a good demonstration of what happens when the wrong person reboots a franchise.
I'm so mad that money was the reason they couldn't keep going. Which is stupid considering the amount of money these companies do rake in if they don't half-ass things.
*A core childhood memory has been unlocked* Good gods I can't believe I forgot this show! I was never able to see all of it nor finish the game on me SNES? I think? But I still love it all the same.
@@HistoryofPirates Hey. Just a suggestion/question are you going to do more pirate stuff from cartoons or perhaps Sci-fi to expanded your channel? If you are you could talk about pirates and Rouge Traders from 40K to get some traction for your channel. Be warned about going to deep in to the Warp hole though since I don't really want your channel to become a another 40k lore channel and loss your identity. Liking the channel as is. Cheers!
Well written, animation was great for the time, and it had an absolutely star studded cast behind it. Unfortunately the cost of the animation is what ultimately killed it.
Thank you for this! 🙏 I consider this show to be one of my favorites of all time, a lost treasure, a lost labor of love. I was 11 when this came out and was completely enthralled. It was science-fiction but fantasy, with pirates and high adventure! It had a very Masters of the Universe feel, I thought, another favorite franchise of mine. I hope someday soon they do a "reboot", either animated or live action. The formats of streaming services today would be perfect for a limited run series. But, it would have to be competanly done. An OPLA and not a Witcher, as it were. Someday. 🤷♂️
6:44 So sad. I was around 3 and 4 when the re-run of this show was on my top list along Sonic The Hedgehog, SWAT Kats, Biker Mice from Mars and Garfield (I know it's from '88, but the Spanish dub only happened in the '90s).
I never got to watch this show but I’m so intrigued…a monkey-bird? Someone had a creative imagination. Jodi Benson? *THE* JODI BENSON? Wow! I’m in. If I ever come across this I’m watching it. (Fangirl alert.)
As a 90's kid born and raised, I and my entire childhood would like to thank Pirates of Dark Water to introducing me to the fantasy genre and me becoming a huge pirate fan. The sega genesis games and comic books i did not know about!! Given the success of one piece, Pirates of Dark Water should be successful nowadays since its the american version of one piece.
I was born in ‘89, I’m surprised I never heard of it before you started talking about it. It does look awesome and the game even looks fun. Hopefully someone good will pick it up and give it a proper send off.
@@HistoryofPirates Once you get done with all your books you might have the finances and notoriety to buy the rights. I can’t think of a better person to do it.
Never saw this as a kid but it reminds me of Ulysses 31, in that it was short lived but massively loved by those that did watch it. Might have to hunt this down.
Never caught a single episode. Must have been on when something else was on that I had to watch. :/ The early 90s just flooded the market with quality cartoons.
They need to give the comics and cartoons to a movie company and let them handle it to make it into a real life movie. Weird thing is, the cartoon never finished, but the comics did!
Loved this cartoon as a little kid. Unfortunately it came out a few years too early. If it had come out around the time Jack Sparrow made is debut on the big screen this may have been a hit.
I remember this, but i dont think i watched it. I wonder what it was going up against in its timeslot? Leslie Jones would be a great Rin. Greta Tunberg could be the ecomancer. Melissa Mcarthy could play Mer. Lets get it made baby!
@History of Pirates At 8:24 you say that: "the story (for the ending of the animated series - I presume) is pretty much written" Are you thinking of the ending from the Sega Genesis game that use again in the animated series or do you have knowledge/sources that tell you there is a storyline made for the rest of the animated series? :)
I had all the action figures and one day I got the ship. But the ship wasn’t to scale with the figures and the result was kinda goofy as the figures were much too big for the ship. I’ll never forgive the toy makers for that…
@History of Pirates - Oh, what a gem this cartoon was! Only ever saw a few episodes. Anyhow, a bit off-tangent here, but I remember back in 2007 when I was doing some research about pirates, is it true the first crew (or something) had like, homosexual relationships? I mean, they

This was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up. It's too bad it was never finished.
I got to meet the voice actors of pirates of dark water months ago, was a huge highlight for me
That’s cool
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. We were blessed in the early 90s with some great television.
we were very blessed
Great. Now you're making me hunt down the old action figures.

You mentioned this show on one of your streams & I actually found it on.. the high seas
I remember this show as a kid. As long as they don't reboot it for "a modern audience" giving this story a second chance would be a good idea.
I'm so mad that money was the reason they couldn't keep going. Which is stupid considering the amount of money these companies do rake in if they don't half-ass things.
Sniffle...when I think of all the awesome Nimated shows that got cut before their time. Brings a tear to my soul.
It was great
Such a underrated classic, deserved more seasons, deserves a blu ray release.
I want this show to be rebooted so bad! Right now I'm setting up a D&D game based on it.
I freakin loved this show.
It was awesome
O.g I freaking loved this as a kid, well hannah barbera love everything from them
they were top tier
Loved this show when i was a kid.
I love this tv show but it ended without a resolution.
I never played the game or read the comics.

That was a great show! I remember watching it on Cartoon Network.
With the fall of the super hero jon-dra, there's a chance something like this gets brought back to life. Fingers crossed I guess!

Loved this as a kid and to be honest had forgotten about it. I am now watching it all again
it's such a great show
I watched this show, sorry to learn it never got to finish its story.
Thanks for watching
Loved this show. Going to use the dark water in a Pirate Borg ( TTRPG) game im running for friends.
Nice job Jay
Thanks brother
Jay! April 1st do a totally serious deep dive into Captain Feathersword
all he has is a song

That intro goes hard 🔥🔥🔥

Never knew there were video games of this IP. I was a big Genesis kid, so I might have to look in to that and see if any emulators are around.

Ahhh yeah
I will be waiting and hoping ❤

I hear that

Have you ever tackled the Freeport series for Dungeons and Dragons?
The curse words of the series were incorporated into Huttese in Star Wars Legacy

Any way to get the storyline out of the writer or any of the wb archives would be an amazing read warner bros owns it
Amazon Prime should buy the rights and make a show to compete with Netflix's "One Piece."
3p0...
I found this randomly
It’s me! I hope you enjoyed the video
X-Men was a lower selling book. It had more history behind it. ABC gave up on a winner. Batman and X-Men ruled the space
