Burt Reynolds was in X Files. I had no idea. There's been so many stars I've recognized from other places that have shown up. I'm still on season 5 tho.
Ultimately the difference between a goofy episode like either Clyde Bruckman, Bad Blood and improbable is who wrote it. Clyde, Humbug, Jose Chung etc. were written by Darin Morgan . Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, Je Souhaite were written by Vince Gilligan. Improbable was written by Chris Carter who's track record of goofy episode and overall sense of humor is more hit and miss. Carter's goofier episode include Szyzygi, Post-Modern Prometheus, Fight Club and he directed First Person Shooter. The only classic episode of those is Post-Modern Prometheus with Fight Club and First Person Shooter being outright terrible episodes. However, it was very much time for a true lighter episode since Je Souhaite in season 7 was the last one they made. I find Improbable to be a very enjoyable episode. Burt Reynolds is a delight and the way it pokes fun at Reyes' schtick while still being respectful of her character makes it probably my favorite Reyes centric episode.
One of the few s9 episodes I actually like and can re watch. Silly and enjoyable. And yes, now you know the big secret of the show - WIlliam's real father!
This is one of my favorite late season episodes. I’m excited for you. It’s almost all endgame from here.
