"Weighted" keys are very important if you are practicing with a goal of, or are also playing on, acoustic pianos. It is quite unusual to have that at this price. I'm of the belief that every home should have a piano (especially if there are kids) but one of these will do just fine.
THank you for posting this Jeremy. One of our kids has really taken to learning piano himself (self instructed) and now wants to graduate to an 88 key. I feel more confident buying this. I'm sure many viewers appreciate your detailed style and input on this video.
Who did you buy it from? because I bought it from donnermusicinstrument. Com. And they lie through their teeth telling me that they sent the piano then they tell me Hours later that the piano was defective so now they’re waiting for them to come in then they tell me that they send it the next day so for me they sent the broken one or nothing at all. I’ stopped the package midway and told UPS to send it back and now I have a dispute with my credit card on them
The Donner seems like a good choice for a beginning student aspiring to play difficult classical pieces but does not have the space or budget to maintain a wood-based piano. It is great that it comes with a decent foot pedal, 200 plus rhythms and voices, good speakers, music stand and features a recording function. The connectivity and output jacks combined with the speakers make it a functional recital or performance instrument. Nevertheless, the Yamaha P-125 or the Casio 1000/3000 seem like better choices [in my opinion] as they seem to offer the possibility of fulfilling a student musicians creative and performance potential better.
It's sad that i couldn't even able to buy any of these digital pianos or keyboards you were greatly reveiwing... I hope i will have one before living the mother of earth! :) I apriciate your reviews and guideline videos... From Ethiopia! 💚💛❤
Jeremy, I've been afraid to give this one a shot, but thanks to your review looks like I'm taking it. Your insights have been fantastic. Keep up the great work!
This is easily the best bang for your buck when it comes to beginner pianos. Going with this one. Thanks. I've been looking at others that cost nearly twice as much that have half the features.
Hi Jeremy, new fan here. It would be really interesting if you took some of these budget pianos apart so we can get a sense of the action components vs the more expensive sets. There is a whole fandom behind seeing the internals of these pianos. Maybe even compare the processor chips.
I keep seeing reviews on this keyboard and the reviewer says they have Graded Hammer Action. According to Donner's website the DEP-20 DOES NOT have Graded Hammer Action. The SE-1 does and it only costs a little more.
I bought this one today Jeremy! Wish me luck on my journey as I'm getting ready for it to arrive. I loved your quote in another one of your reviews, unless you're a 'brand snob' you can't really go wrong with this.
Jeremy, thanks for all your reviews. I have a question about something you stated. At the 1:50 mark you mention the DEP-20 has graded hammer action. But when I look at reviews on Amazon, I keep reading that all the keys are weighted equally. Additionally, the photo and description from Donner makes no mention of graded weights. Can you please confirm whether it is or isn’t graded (Heavier on left, lighter on right)? I’m hoping to purchase this weekend to take advantage of cyber Monday sales. Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much for this review! I will be purchasing via your link! Getting this for my daughters bday this week. Glad I watched this prior to making my purchase!
I was hoping for Jeremy to do a review on this before black friday but the amazon reviews and the feature set were so compelling that I had to pull the trigger. I bought it as a holiday gift for my 8 year old who is learning to play. I want to give it to her as a surprise but I don't think I'll be able to wait that long! after reading the review, I want to open it up and play with it myself! Thanks for reaffirming my purchase Jeremy. I just have one question for you...I saw you mention that Donner had better features but lower quality than a Yamaha P45 for example. However, in the review, you raised no concerns about the feel of the keys or the sound quality. My daughter is a pianist, so these are the two most important things for me. what quality concerns do you have related to sound quality and keyboard feel? I trust you and I'm happy to pay the 100 more for the P45 if it is MUCH better than the Donner DEP 20 in those respects. Anyhow, you are great at what you do. I'll drop an update on this thread to let everyone know how she likes it. Everyone - one last thing, make sure to watch the ads that play during Jeremy's videos. It's how he gets paid for his work. Buying these keyboards, shooting and editing these videos isn't cheap. It's the least we can all do for the man!
I got it and have to say it aint bad for what it costs. Good for beginners to early intermediates who arent fully sure that they will continue to play for years.
I'm a drummer w. 30+ years experience took up the keyboards recently and I'm addicted. I've graduated from a cheap mustar keyboard, to a not as cheap Yamaha e363.. all 61key. This keyboard is so tempting considering the bang for the buck factor, and it's got a 4.9 star rating on Amazon out of like 2800+ reviews now! Wondering if it has a good fender Rhodes sounding tone on it's menu?
i guess i really shouldn't judge it without using it for myself, but holy cow this things feature set is blowing my 500$ used yamahi p-45 out of the water...
Hi Jeremy, I have this piano now, bought it thanks to your review and yes it is great! I love that it feels and sounds very authentic and also has MIDI function. For a more advanced player I would be interested to know what you think about the Donner DDP300 for Beginner and Professional?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS REVIEW!!! I decided to buy this as a "take along" travel practice piano for my teen. Seems to be an excellent choice for practicing while away on vacation spots. I wish it had a battery feature. Oh well, great price for a weighted practice take along. No substitute for an acoustic piano though.
A surprising find - what more can one say? I've never heard of this brand before, where is it made? It should give the usual familiar manufacturers a bit of a jolt!
Hi Jeremy, I am from Hungary, Europe. In 1991 I''ve bought a little Yamaha arranger keyboard, an absolutely simple one, although it had split and some automatic, single-finger accompaniment for the left hand. The thing was fully FM-synthesis, no MIDI, worked on 4 AA batteries only, had 120 fairly bad voices and a single 1/4 inch headphone out, but it had a single-line numeric keypad. I liked it, but not for its sound or capabilities, but know what for? It had mini keys, may be even mini-mini keys. So it was very-very portable. The worst and cheap $50-99 beginner/kid keyboards have at least a lightyear better sound in this years, but I miss for some years a fairly good, probably Yamaha PSR-E373-level arranger keyboard with mini keys! I live in a space-restricted apartment, have no room for a full-size 61-keys arranger. Please, suggest for me (and for the others with the same problem) a decent 61-key arranger keyboard with mini keys! Thanks in advance: Andrew
Hi Jeremy, ... as an addition to my previous note: If you can find only mini-sized arranger keyboards with more than 61 keys, I think those also would be appreciated by the people wh want absolute mobility. Mini-key MIDI controllers are out of the question as they need a computer or cellphone and all mobile apps supporting wireless MIDI require constant Internet connection, and I do not consider an Ipad (or any other tablets) as a real mobile setup because they have bad tiny sound so if you want a decent music, you must go with a decent bluetooth speaker pair too. Thanks: Andrew
I was DELIGHTED when I bought a Williams Legato 88 key electronic piano for $35 at a local variety store, 3 years ago. I found they were going for $275 on Amazon. The keys, however, are not "weighted". You may imagine I am familiar with this concept. AND I've kept an eye out for a Casio weighted keyboard. No problem they've got them. $550 to $750. So....the Donner DEP-20 has this beat. Don't apologize for promoting it!
@ Mark Hugo, I was delighted to thank the employee at the Guitar Center I shop at for allowing me to waste my time trying the Williams Legato III while on sale for $229. I recall saying if there's anything else in here better but no more than around $75 higher in price, save me some time if you know I'm always buying Yamaha keyboards and all other brands I own and play are still around from back in the day. This GC also knows that if I'm there looking for a particular guitar that it will be a Fender and most likely a Strat. Now a Williams Legato for $35 I'll buy just to tinker with and see if I can make it better without people noticing that I've modified it. Sometimes I'll have better success by the modification to a particular keyboard but I won't be able to make the mods within the original layout of a keyboard but better to have an access panel with certain mods housed inside an add-on plastic casing I've made from another keyboard that's only good for parts. I must say that the Donner he just reviewed sounded better over my tablet than the Williams Legato III sounded in person. Luckily I looked up and saw the M-Audio Keystation 88 machII with semi weighted keys on sale and now I believe the regular price of $229. I have it connected to a rack mount Yamaha TG500.
Thank you for this review. The information that it lacks the possibility to save the settings is important to me. I have one like that, it is annoying.
Good review. I have the 90 series with stand for $424 on black friday and it performs way better then I expected. People dont give donner enough credit
What a surprise! I've never even heard of this brand. The sounds are very nice..the piano, of course, but the ethnic sounds are amazing. I wonder what the guitar sounds like. I think for a student learning piano, it would be really satisfying and especially help them get used to the weighted action of a real piano. I can't remember if it had a touch sensitivity adjustment. I'll have to go back and see. I like this keyboard. I can think of other arranger keyboards that might have more features for recording and more complex drum and style choices, but for a a dedicated 88 key weighted digital piano .. and considering other 88 key choices in that price range .. I don't think you can beat it at that price. There are still a lot of sound choices, too. Really a surprise. What a great Christmas gift and it wouldn't break the bank. Really loved this review ... I appreciate that you feature quality first-experience keyboards and digital pianos that are affordable.. (It's the piano teacher in you .. ;) ..btw, I got my PSR-W310 today :) .. FUN! Really like the piano sound. I think I will use this one to learn the world of DAW so I won't be reviewing for a bit.. Keyboards are so addicting! :) I have to say that now this will be my go-to piano sound over the CTX-800. Both strings and piano were greatly improved).
@@JeremySee Thank you! Really excited to receive it :) I'll use headphones when I'm away and a little amplifier when I'm at home. I actually don't own an 88 key keyboard, so it will be fun and interesting to have the extra keys!
My former husband was given the roll up dinner table tpp by a the widow of a man in his 90s who used to take it with him to the diner sometimes and unroll it on the table and play anything just very good sound from THAT, I only imagine how this feels in my hands. It's almost half off on Amazon right now and I could afford to finance just my divorce trashed my credit score.😪😪
Hi Jeremy, thank you so much for the quality of this review. My partner is interested in learning piano again and this has now come into contention. Would you recommend this over the Yamaha P45? There is nearly £100 difference between the two here in the UK.
Hi Jeremy, in your review you said that the keys are scaled, with the lower keys being firmer and the higher keys being lighter, but in the description of the piano it just says it’s weighted keys whereas their higher-end model has scaled weighted. Can you please clarify for this model? Does the touch setting allow you to set this up? Thank you!
Thanks for your reviews, Jeremy. I’ve been looking at this model, but I can’t, for the life of me, find a triple sustain pedal with the 5-pin connecter. Could you point me in the right direction, please?
Would you say this is a good piano for a beginner I’ve never played piano before and was going too buy one and try learn myself how too play been wanting too play for a year and a half now
Im wanting to get started to learn piano and I'd like something that has a nice balance of voices, and split function as well as a good sound to it. I think this is a good fit for that but im happy to see other suggestions
Hi, Jeremy. Which beginner piano should I buy? This donner or the alesis recital? Both seems to be at the same price in my country. I am saving with a lot of effort to be able to buy one of these, I hope I can. P.d. english isn't my native language, sorry for grammar mistakes.
Hi, Mr. Jeremy See, thank you for this video on the Donner DEP-20. I've seen a few of your videos & enjoyed watching them. You are very knowledgeable & I've been looking for a digital piano for a year and a half & I like this piano - Donner DEP-20 is my one question is and I know you said it has a few piano tones but does this piano have a Grand Piano sound to it? This will be my last piano to buy & I am a beginner learning on my own wanting to play just for me. Thank you for your wonderful videos. Have a Blessed Day! 😊
I bought the Yamaha P45 , I am beginner but the feeling seems as a real piano to me maybe the last octave key note are a bit hard to get a proper clear sound but overall is a quite good choice IMO
So , is the Donner Dep-10 a good option as well ? I'm going to buy my first keyboard and had the alesis recital on my sight , but if i stretch my budget a little I could buy the DEP-10. It's worth to choose the DEP-10 over the recital?
we're in the same situation. i had the alesis recital in my amazon cart, but i found this. and i'm going for the real piano feel, i'm gonna go with the donner
I loved this video, you have explained everything a little and it helps me a lot to decide which digital piano to buy, I opted for this model to be honest, thank you very much for helping with this review❤❤❤
@@JeremySee Quiklok is the best! My first keyboard was a Kawai K4 and a Quiklok stand. I still have both, in perfect condition after almost 30 years! But after experiencing the joys of a hammer-action keyboard, I'm going to buy this Donner keyboard! It's remarkable that I paid well over $1000 for my K4 with synth keys and 16 note poly and now I can buy a weighted hammer-action keyboard with 128 simultaneous notes! I think the only "advantage" the K4 has is the ability to create new tones and save them. Jeremy, thank you again for your always wonderful reviews!
Quick update - piano came quickly, 2 days after ordering. it's a substantial piece of equipment, box is nearly 30 pounds. Couldn't wait to give it to my daughter, she's been using it for the past three days and loves it. Great feel, sound and a ton of features. I wish I'd gotten it sooner. I'd recommend getting an x or z stand if you don't have one... Longevity is always a key question with products like this, but thus far, I am very happy with this purchase.
I'm so excited that you reviewed this digital piano! I've been hoping you would since I have been going back and forth with buying this one or the Alesis Recital Pro. Which one do you think is best for a complete beginner?
I have a question. I'm planning on getting the semi weighted version of this. But should I just get a full weighted one. Are the keys hard to press down on sometimes, or would I just get use to it. Does it effect playing faster pieces?
The Donner Digital piano sounds quite good for its price Jeremy! Providing 238 voices, 200 styles and much more features at a price of about $300 is great. I liked the Grand piano, the strings and the Electric piano voices a lot.
i think the reason is that it has a port for a 3 pedal unit and a aux in. if you use a vst on this you can use the integrated speakers what you cant do with roland fp 30 or p125 which cost 2xmore.
I love your videos and I value your opinion. I am 51 and looking to start out learning piano and I would like to know which keyboard out these 3 you would recommend ? I am looking at the Donner DEP-20, Alesis Recital Pro and the YAMAHA P71. I would like to know your opinion if you don’t mind. I do not plan on doing any kind of recording or creating music, just want to learn how to play piano... Thanks...
Damp (NOT wet) microfibre cloth - that's it! PS tip: warm the cloth in the microwave (taking care not to scald your hand) and use that to remove any greasy marks. Wipe damp off with dry cloth immediately. Clean then dry a small section at a time.

The keys, however, are not "weighted". You may imagine I am familiar with this concept. AND I've kept an eye out for a Casio weighted keyboard. No problem they've got them. $550 to $750. So....the Donner DEP-20 has this beat. Don't apologize for promoting it!
Thanks for sharing!
Looking to begin learning piano, would this be a better option than the recital pro?
i bought a casio recommended kb and was amazed..thanks
Thank you for this review. The information that it lacks the possibility to save the settings is important to me. I have one like that, it is annoying.
Man you have helped me so much with picking a perfect keyboard man I wish I could give you 10000000000 subs and 1000000000000 likes😂😂😂😂👍
I'm happy to help!
Good review. I have the 90 series with stand for $424 on black friday and it performs way better then I expected. People dont give donner enough credit
Can I ask about the sound range? I’ve heard it had pretty weird sound sensitivity but can you play piassimo to fortissimo?
You are one of the lucky few to get your new EW310! Have fun. The folding keyboard is on the way to you. Sent you a tracking number.
Amazing review! I think this will be my choice. Also I loved the piece at 4:00 what is it called?
Looked at the IO.. Has USB MIDI for use with a workstation or lessons, but does not have regular MIDI ports.
Great review as always - now the question is - this donner piano or the yamaha psr e463 as they are both around £280 on amazon here in the UK
Quite different ruclips.net/video/BwJulJvCBRo/видео.html
Don't know if i should laugh or not cuz wtf 280 dollars seriously the donner dep 20 😵
@@leoleondre2425 those are pounds, not dollars
Hi Jeremy, in your review you said that the keys are scaled, with the lower keys being firmer and the higher keys being lighter, but in the description of the piano it just says it’s weighted keys whereas their higher-end model has scaled weighted. Can you please clarify for this model? Does the touch setting allow you to set this up? Thank you!
Thanks for your reviews, Jeremy. I’ve been looking at this model, but I can’t, for the life of me, find a triple sustain pedal with the 5-pin connecter. Could you point me in the right direction, please?
I finished your ads teacher, hope it helps💝
Thank you for waiting till after I bought this piano last week to make it sell out on amazon.
This donner or yamaha p-45?
Hi, Jeremy. Which beginner piano should I buy? This donner or the alesis recital? Both seems to be at the same price in my country. I am saving with a lot of effort to be able to buy one of these, I hope I can.
P.d. english isn't my native language, sorry for grammar mistakes.
Supongo que hablas español, al final cuál compraste? Justo estoy intentando tomar la misma decisión que tú hace 3 años
Would you reccomed this piano for chrismas??
Sound good.. but I do not think people in vietnam can order it on Amazon....Thanks JEREMY....STAY SAFE
Thanks buddy!
Very good review. However, the Donner DEP20 is unavailable at AMAZON.
Does anyone that tune he's playing at 4:22? I remember it from my SmartMusic days😮
Can you do a comparison between this Donner DEP-20 with Yamaha P45/P71?
I bought the Yamaha P45 , I am beginner but the feeling seems as a real piano to me maybe the last octave key note are a bit hard to get a proper clear sound but overall is a quite good choice IMO
Yamaha less features, but superior quality!!!
Should I buy this or the Roland FP-10?
So , is the Donner Dep-10 a good option as well ? I'm going to buy my first keyboard and had the alesis recital on my sight , but if i stretch my budget a little I could buy the DEP-10. It's worth to choose the DEP-10 over the recital?
Hey I was wondering the exact same thing. Did you end up making a decision?
I would definitely prefer the Dep-10 over the Recital. The sound quality is much better in my opinion.
we're in the same situation. i had the alesis recital in my amazon cart, but i found this. and i'm going for the real piano feel, i'm gonna go with the donner
I also go with the dep 10 now lets see if i regret it lol
I loved this video, you have explained everything a little and it helps me a lot to decide which digital piano to buy, I opted for this model to be honest, thank you very much for helping with this review❤❤❤
Glad it was helpful!
Jeremy, how come your pianos don't wobble on their stands? What do you do to make them stable?
I use Quiklok. They are expensive though.
I use a metal folding saw horse with cut down legs and some end ear supports. It's inexpensive and extremely stable.
Use a double x stand. They are more sturdy than a single X stand.
Thanks for sharing!
So, what would you say after these 3 years?
I'm so excited that you reviewed this digital piano! I've been hoping you would since I have been going back and forth with buying this one or the Alesis Recital Pro. Which one do you think is best for a complete beginner?
Maybe the donner dep-20
How much does it weigh as 610 donner.
I have a question. I'm planning on getting the semi weighted version of this. But should I just get a full weighted one. Are the keys hard to press down on sometimes, or would I just get use to it. Does it effect playing faster pieces?
Thanks for the good video!
Jeremy will you do a review of the M-Audio hammer 88?
Wish you a Merry Christmas!
The Donner Digital piano sounds quite good for its price Jeremy! Providing 238 voices, 200 styles and much more features at a price of about $300 is great. I liked the Grand piano, the strings and the Electric piano voices a lot.
Yup! You do get quite a lot for the price 🙂
i think the reason is that it has a port for a 3 pedal unit and a aux in. if you use a vst on this you can use the integrated speakers what you cant do with roland fp 30 or p125 which cost 2xmore.
3:33 i am in love
Fr! What song was he playing?
Ugh, at 6:07 I had a James Pavel Shawcross flashback!
😁
do you know witch triple pedal systems you can use for the dep20?
Jeremy, thank you so much for the informative review. I am looking for a piano for my elderly mother and I think this fits the bill.
Have fun!
Donner DEP-20 or Alesis Recital Pro?
I love your videos and I value your opinion. I am 51 and looking to start out learning piano and I would like to know which keyboard out these 3 you would recommend ? I am looking at the Donner DEP-20, Alesis Recital Pro and the YAMAHA P71. I would like to know your opinion if you don’t mind. I do not plan on doing any kind of recording or creating music, just want to learn how to play piano... Thanks...
Hello, I love your videos and want to know what you think I should get, a Roland fp-10 or a Casio px s1000?
Would be great to get your thoughts on the DDP-60. Many of the current reviews I've seen are sponsored by Donner and therefore are potentially biased.
Awesome video as always! Question, what would you recommend, a Yamaha PSR E373 or a Casio CT-X3000? Thank you!
would you recommend this over the korg 88 key digital piano?
WHERE DID YOU GET THE BASE OF THE PIANO? 🤔
Hi dear Jeremy, In your opinion which one is better? Casio dcp s350 or Donner dep 20 which one do u recommend between of them?
name of what you played in the beginning? Forgot the name.
Potentially a better starter piano than the Roland fp-30?
Dear Mr. Jeremy, could you please make a video about how to properly cleaning keyboard or digital piano ?
Damp (NOT wet) microfibre cloth - that's it! PS tip: warm the cloth in the microwave (taking care not to scald your hand) and use that to remove any greasy marks. Wipe damp off with dry cloth immediately. Clean then dry a small section at a time.
Fully weighed keys? Woah. For that price that’s crazy.
There's a weighted and semi-weighted version. It's about a $100 difference.
@@HaIsKuL Do you have the model numbers for the two different versions? It's not obvious from the Amazon store which is which.
Does it has sensibility? Ive been thinking about buying this Piano for a week, it really looks worth it
Hi Jeremy, have you reviewed the Donner DDP-80 and do you recommend it for beginners?
which the best real piano sounds? donner dep 20 or dgx 680 by yamaha?
