I think he was just a nice guy who just wanted to see the best in people and didn't know how to deal with the situation. Sugar daddies are usually much older and happy to use money to get what they want, plus they don't take abuse, they expect gratitude and plenty of it.... something that girl NEVER had. And I think her show was the series kickoff.) ‘Til Debt’ had Stephanie and Sam, who officially received nothing for their efforts. But as with pretty much everybody else, they did get some cash fronted to them during the show’s production.
Oof. Gail nailed it when she said she refused to wake up from the dream. I think her problem was that her dream of what her life was, was SO far removed form reality she couldn't face it. She thought she was a young, about-to-be-discovered starlet protagonist of a movie. When in fact, she was a broke ex-sugar-baby working a part-time temp job, stealing from her ex-boyfriend. She's skated by this far based on making other people ignore reality and see her dream, but she can't keep it up the facade anymore and that was basically her only way of making her life work. She's can't face her own life or her own self, so she just gets mad at people who try and make her. She gets mad at people who see what she really is. And that guarantees she'll never improve herself. She'll never become who she wants to be, because that means admitting you aren't already who you want to be and working towards it.

There is an extended version of this episode where there was one more challenge. To what I remember, the challenge was that she was to help the homeless. Although she did pretty well in that challenge, she failed because after the challenge she took a taxi home. The purpose of that challenge was to show Nicola that if she doesn’t change her ways, that could be her future.
Yes, I caught the extended broadcast too. It gave Nicola ample time to flameout on the last challenge, and also showed more failed footage from the other tasks. I really hope Stephen remembered to change his locks and passwords.
I remember that. Originally the episodes that aired was an hour long, and in my opinion was better. In the second season, they tightened it up to 30 minutes but they cut the season 1 episodes to 30 minutes too. I remember the OG episodes had so much more entertainment, that they had to sacrifice (wrongly IMO), to probably to help the cable channel that this aired on, better fit into their line up slots.

Well, good to see Nicola has matured in some ways. But, still not in others. My only hope is that she gets a good job, becomes more financially secure that way, and gets the fathers of her children to step up to the plate and do their part. After all, at this point her focus should be all about the well being of her children.

Wow! At 35 I was working long hours, up to 15 hour days to save money to do renovations on a flat I had! Now I work 8 hours mon-Fri as a pharmacy porter and I do pretty well to live comfortably, and I don’t like shopping for clothes or bags or shoes unless I see something I really want or need them! I prefer spending my money on learning new skills or going to the cinema! This woman is so spoiled! I could never ask anyone for money! How was she brought up? Pretty much handed everything on a silver platter!

What really stood out for me was her wholehearted enthusiasm for the challenges and her great Canadian can-do attitude. (That was probably a different woman.) But I’m sure it was her in the Sally Ann segment, as one of her assignment reactions was so negative not a trace made the final in the 30 min. episode. And things got pretty tense between her and the sound engineer. A few people suggested she was a Sugar Baby, but I just can’t see it. With his $$ he could have found someone who at least pretended to like him in public.
@islakay I’ve been thinking back and I believe you are mostly correct. I’m sure that the early ‘Til Debt’ series was originally 60 minutes long, but it didn’t work so they cut it down to 30 minutes. And I think that the only 60 minute ‘Princess’ show was Nicola’s. I haven’t seen either of Gail’s most successful series shown as a rerun in years. I know Tubi is/was showing selected seasons/episodes. And then of course this UTube channel shows a lot of them as well, but I’ve never seen them on DVD. If I ever locate it I’ll let you know. When I was 18 years old, I was working 4 jobs and making take home 10k a month. I was blowing EVERY PENNY! And now... I am just kicking myself. Never did a mutal fund. Never started a roth. Sigh. I am blessed I knew not to get into debt, but I was like her. Spending over 2k on FOOD! spending money on hair and nails and clothes, EASY 500/month. Getting facial, massages, taking my friends all the time. Like an idiot. I grew up when I had my daughter at 20. I tell her she saved my life. I have a career I love and BLESSED to have a wonderful income, it took a lot of hard work, God, and the love of my husband to keep me on the right path. Oof. Gail nailed it when she said she refused to wake up from the dream. I think her problem was that her dream of what her life was, was SO far removed form reality she couldn't face it. She thought she was a young, about-to-be-discovered starlet protagonist of a movie. When in fact, she was a broke ex-sugar-baby working a part-time temp job, stealing from her ex-boyfriend. She's skated by this far based on making other people ignore reality and see her dream, but she can't keep it up the facade anymore and that was basically her only way of making her life work.
She's can't face her own life or her own self, so she just gets mad at people who try and make her. She gets mad at people who see what she really is. And that guarantees she'll never improve herself. She'll never become who she wants to be, because that means admitting you aren't already who you want to be and working towards it.
She has a very, very serious personality disorder. And it will never get better, because she has no motivation.

She lives in a bubble because the bubble is a safe place, but when the bubble pops and reality comes in, that's when the problems take place. 😮. She may have seen Anna Delvey/Sorokin and how she lived conveniently forgetting she went to prison for what she did. Michael Alig The Club Boy brilliantly played by Macauly Culkin in Party Monster who did 17 years and never thought killing his ex lover Angel Melendez was wrong and bad, he got no couselling and died on Xmas Day as did James Brown & George Michael. Even i Paris Is Burning (1987) the folks loved living in the world of the ball but when it is over, and the lights go out, and the sun comes up, it's back to their old life on food stamps, homelessness, prostitution, and living in low income housing.

One thing that’s true about a lot of native born Canadians is we don’t like confrontation. We just don’t. We want everyone to get along, follow the rules and be polite. What I like about Gail is she’s not afraid of getting in there and handling someone who needed it. Nicola needs a therapist.

There is an extended version of this episode where there was one more challenge. To what I remember, the challenge was that she was to help the homeless. Although she did pretty well in that challenge, she failed because after the challenge she took a taxi home. The purpose of that challenge was to show Nicola that if she doesn’t change her ways, that could be her future.

Yes, I caught the extended broadcast too. It gave Nicola ample time to flameout on the last challenge, and also showed more failed footage from the other tasks. I really hope Stephen remembered to change his locks and passwords.
I remember that. Originally the episodes that aired was an hour long, and in my opinion was better. In the second season, they tightened it up to 30 minutes but they cut the season 1 episodes to 30 minutes too. I remember the OG episodes had so much more entertainment, that they had to sacrifice (wrongly IMO), to probably to help the cable channel that this aired on, better fit into their line up slots.

Wow! At 35 I was working long hours, up to 15 hour days to save money to do renovations on a flat I had! Now I work 8 hours mon-Fri as a pharmacy porter and I do pretty well to live comfortably, and I don’t like shopping for clothes or bags or shoes unless I see something I really want or need them! I prefer spending my money on learning new skills or going to the cinema!

About 10 years ago I saw an extended version of this episode. Yup, a whole hour of Nicola being Nicola. I wish I could remember more, but the challenges were more fleshed out. And there was one challenge/tangent/incident that was very eye-opening, but never hinted at in this version. Does anyone else remember it?

What really stood out for me was her wholehearted enthusiasm for the challenges and her great Canadian can-do attitude. (That was probably a different woman.) But I’m sure it was her in the Sally Ann segment, as one of her assignment reactions was so negative not a trace made the final in the 30 min. episode. And things got pretty tense between her and the sound engineer. A few people suggested she was a Sugar Baby, but I just can’t see it. With his $$ he could have found someone who at least pretended to like him in public.
@islakay I’ve been thinking back and I believe you are mostly correct. I’m sure that the early ‘Til Debt’ series was originally 60 minutes long, but it didn’t work so they cut it down to 30 minutes. And I think that the only 60 minute ‘Princess’ show was Nicola’s. I haven’t seen either of Gail’s most successful series shown as a rerun in years. I know Tubi is/was showing selected seasons/episodes. And then of course this UTube channel shows a lot of them as well, but I’ve never seen them on DVD. If I ever locate it I’ll let you know. Wow! What a USER Nicola was! I feel bad for Stephen - he was totally used by her. When I was 18 years old, I was working 4 jobs and making take home 10k a month. I was blowing EVERY PENNY! And now... I am just kicking myself. Never did a mutal fund. Never started a roth. Sigh. I am blessed I knew not to get into debt, but I was like her. Spending over 2k on FOOD! spending money on hair and nails and clothes, EASY 500/month. Getting facial, massages, taking my friends all the time. Like an idiot.
