Which do you prefer? Forward controls or Mid controls?

    • @Dragonford350
      @Dragonford350 2 года назад +4

Forwards are kind of nice when yer out on the highway, but if you're a new rider and you're in a more suburban/urban area where you're stopping often, it can be a little dicey.

  • @williamforbes5826

I'm a convert from years of sport bikes. My back (old) will not tolerate that riding position for any length of time anymore. So the 'sit-up-and-beg' riding position is for me. I've gone from rear-set pegs to mids. Maybe later I'll progress to forward controls. For a beginner?? Get out there on as many possible machines to find out what suits you best. And Buy Used! You'll inevitably change your mind in six months or so. Just my two cents. Good stuff, Jess! Keep it going!

I got my 2021 Scout Bobber for a variety of reasons:
    1. Forward Controls
    2. Small Digital Display (Small but adds up to value imo)
    3. USB Charging port (Again, small but as a daily it adds value)
    4. Power/Torque I could grow into
    5. Nice Styling and Colors - Wide tires, and semi-aggressive stance.
    6. Bar end mirrors (Mine are up rather than down as shown in your video)
    7. Nimble - Like you said in the video it's nimble. Normally I wouldn't have thought of a bike like that to be so flickable and nimble!
It's my first bike and so far it's been lovely. I've had no issues with it rain or shine and have yet to lose control or drop it so I'd say the Scout Rogue would be a great beginner bike if you like the styling. I'm about 5' 10" - 230 lbs and I find the forward controls very comfy compared to something like the Sportsters. So my bike was ordered from some guy who decided to finance that and start on financing a house so it all fell through - fortunately for me mine came with the comfort seat so that was a HUGE benefit to the rideability of the bike long term; the only other problem I had with it was the stiff suspension. It's set pretty harsh from factory but using the spanner, I softened it all the way and it was a huge improvement. I might get an aftermarket suspension at another time but we'll have to see how the funds for that go.

I’m a brand new rider. I bought my 2016 Scout Sixty in December. I just passed my MSF Basic Rider Course today so I have yet to ride it on the roads. I have driven it around parking lots and was very comfortable as a new rider. I can’t wait to get it out more. If our Wisconsin weather ever let’s up!

I am proud of you. You are growing into motorcycling- your vision of how you want a motorcycle to be for you is sharpening, as is your skill level. I see those matters playing leapfrog with one another as you grow.
You have long said you weren't into ultimate performance, or intensely twisty roads. You have said you were into just traveling and seeing things and being with people.
On the other hand, this is the first time I heard you mention you generally preferred mid controls. That is the sign of a versatile, skilled rider- you would sooner stand up for an obstacle than slow down. It is also useful for gravel and unpaved roads.
You also complained about a restricted lean angle. That is a sign that you have taken that degree of lean for granted, another sign of skill. You are starting to outstrip the capabilities of some machines.
You may still not dig twisties or gravel, but you are riding at a high enough level now that you are starting to want what skilled riders of difficult roads want. Despite your modest ambitions, you are becoming one of those riders. So proud of you!

Forward controls, I'm 6' and mid controls tend to cause pain in the hip joint areas. Btw, just a size correction on your friends scout engine size, it's the same size 69ci or 1133cc, there's never been a 1200cc scout, there have only been two scout engine sizes, the 60(ci) and 69(ci).

Hi. New here. When I first saw the Scout Rogue, it was love at first sight. I love that the seat is low, something like 25”” or so. Perfect for my height. But regardless, the lower seat look gets my attention. My only concern is the suspension.
I only have dirt bike experience but that was some years back. I day dream about having a bike like this one. Knowing that this is also suitable for a beginner makes the desire to own one that much greater. It’s absolutely perfect on so many levels.
Your experience riding this bike gave me the chills. Thank you for being real about your thoughts. Now I need to relearn how to ride a bike and grab one for my own.
Looks like 2023 (God willing) may be my first ownership of this Indian. For now, waiting on my eye surgery and then time to heal.
Will subscribe and enjoy all the inspiration you bring my way.
    Peace ☮️

Nicely done. Without sounding critical, rear suspension is most definitely adjustable on all Scouts. I do agree with your thoughts on the mirrors though. The Rogue is available in both 60 and 69 cu in. for anyone that's interested.

Last time I rode a Indian scout was in the early 70’s / a 1939 scout / bought it from a man called Eddie BRATTON. Great guy / fantastic rider. Was a Indian mechanic for Hap Jones in the 40’s & early 50’s. in San Francisco ca. Approached me to give him back the Scout & in turn gave me a 47 Indian Chief. Of course I had to give him a little cash too!! Willy ca 🦅🏍⚒☠️⚡️👊

Sadly our local power sports dealer dropped the Indian line this month, and are going to concentrate other Polaris products and John Deere lawn products. So the nearest Indian dealer is about 100 miles away, even though the Indian factory is less than 3 miles from my house.

In Australia we can't go past a 650cc for Lams approved motorcycles, but once you have past your provisional license of 12 months and then you have to hold your open license for another 12 months before you can buy what ever you want, don't quote me on that it's just going off memory

As a minimum, those bar-end mirrors should be mounted up instead of down. The functionality is greatly increased and in case of any low speed drops the up position will prevent the mirrors from impacting the tank. And no, those mirrors can not be mounted where regular mirrors go...you have to purchase different mirrors.

my buddy had a Scout for a year or two.....sold it exactly for the same peeves you had....suspension (killed his lower back), forward pegs ( not being able to cushion yourself when going over bumps, pot holes or obstacles)...and the 25 point turn around, if you pull into a long narrow driveway.....more than ample power and fun on a perfect road.....

Being able to plant both feet on the ground kind of outweighs most everything else (I often think of poor Doodle when it is windy), if they aren't a nut and peg the speedometer so they think of ground hamburger meat as they pass an overpass, or do some California twisties at 80+, like I did, yeah, nice beginner bike.

Such a shame most of the cruisers nowadays have short stroke motors, for me a cruiser should have a low revving long stroke motor. Also it would be fun to see reviews of old bikes. Like an early 80ies Shovelhead FXS or a WLA for instance...

So I have a 2015 scout 69. I have some time and some money vested in the ride, it was horrible. Sounds like thats still an issue. The pressure put on your tail bone is excruciating….. you mentioned the twitchy throttle, that also is fact, you can hit a bump on the road, have your elbow bounce down with the bump and twitch the throttle. That’s my least favorite part of the bike. Everything mentioned is something I have personally experienced. Having said that, it’s been rock solid for 7 years now. Been through a couple of bikes since I bought it and have never thought about getting rid of it. It’s my go to. Great review.

What is a beginner motorcycle and what is a bike for someone with experience? After not having a bike after 20 years, and last bike an 83 Kawasaki GPZ750. Thinking now of maybe getting a BMW G310R. Only planning to cruise on 50mph country roads. Think the G130 R could be a bunch of fun. Plus I can get a new bike so cheap. I don't plan to go fast , just wondering if I might want more bike.

I don’t know how safe this is, but when I’m coming into a corner and I want more lean, I pull my pegs up and rest my foot at the tips of the peg. This allows me to lean almost double. I don’t want to recommend it, but also just wondering if anyone does this?

The rogue seems like it’s set up would be really easy to ride. The Indian machines are fun.

Got mine on order, can't wait. Went with the sixty as 99% of my riding is red light to red light so the extra power isn't needed and also can't stand the bar ends. Needed to be more comfortable so passing the 1st bike(Ninja 400) to wifey which will be her 1st until she's comfortable with something a little bigger.

They do make mid controls. A friend’s mother had a 2016 scout 60 and had them installed. Also, they have not put a 1200 on those… it’s always been 999cc for the scout 60 and then the 1130 something. 69 cubic inch.

So, did Indian take one inch of rear suspension travel out of there standard Scout to lower the seat? I would need the 3 inch travel.

Blocks got some good videos, yeah...but don't knock yourself by saying his are better...your videos are raw and full of expressions and personality. Artistics are better at communicating real emotion 🤙✌️. Ride safe.

There’s never been a 1200 Scout, there’s the 1130 and then the Scout 60 is about 998 or the 1000 as Indian calls it.

Thank you for your wonderful videos ...
In Denmark, an Indian Scout Rogue 2022 costs around $ 38000 .... due to taxes to the state.

Good job young lady, that's a fine video. Very humble too, giving credit to Blockhead and Brandon over and above yourself. So I'm subscribed now. The one thing I want to see Indian address is the heat coming up from the rear cylinder. They have cylinder deactivation on many models... Why not this one? Hello Indian? Anybody home? Anybody listening?

I was eyeing this bike since I feel like I’ve outgrown my 600cc Honda shadow after 1 year. However, I rode my FiL’s street glide for a week and now I can’t see myself getting anything else than a bagger! It’s crazy how quickly I got used to a bagger after being deadly afraid of riding one. Just goes to show that a lot of hesitancies with beginner riders, especially women, are all in our heads. Sometimes I feel like the emphasis that people put on women riding baggers doesn’t help that much, even if it’s praise like “wow what a badass chick riding a bagger!!”. It just makes it more intimidating, bc you don’t need to be a badass expert to ride a big bike. It’s all about being confident and in control. Of course that comes with time, skill and practice, but those things are quickly learned and we should be urging women to try it out, as opposed to making it a huge deal when a woman does ride a 900 lb bike. Sorry for my little rant. Love you Jess! You’ve done more for my riding experience than anyone else.

The rogue has more horsepower and lighter than Harley’s with 114’s. Lighter weight helps handling braking, and acceleration. More power to weight ratio’s

I own the 2020 scout bobber. The only difference is the added a few items. The motors are the same. The frame is the same. The handle bars are the same. The headlight is the same. The seat, shocks and exhaust are the exact same. Indian added the front fairing and bags...they also rebranded it the "Rogue" ... but the price difference is the more expensive with the upgrades that Indian adds... and to be honest. There are better upgrades than what Indian produces. Go cheaper with this bike. Just a few years older and you have the exact same bike. Customize it according to your preferences...don't let Indian make those choices. Unfortunately, Her Two Wheels didn't even notice...

I find my 2022 Scout Rogue has twitchy throttle. Been riding it for a month now and still not used to it, probably the bumpy roads in my area make it worse. Any solutions to this?
