Wow. That is a gorgeous car! The story was that the stylist Bill Schmidt had been scuba diving in the Bahamas and the reef sharks he saw gliding through the water inspired the lines of the car. There's a guy in Indy named Phil Shafer who has a convertible in Amethyst that had belonged to his grandma. Would love to see the two cars together! Thanks, Lou.

For 56 Lincoln was the most striking of Luxury vehicles from the big three. As I recall, Lincoln For 56 was given an award for styling by some engineering organization. 🏆 Lincoln was the last to offer a full size RWD Luxury Sedan. Fortunately have a 2007 Town Car Signature Limited which will literally carry me to the grave! LINCOLN, what a Luxury car should be! 😎

Hello Lou! I was just sitting here messing with my phone, and i typed 1956 Lincoln Premiere in the RUclips search engine just to see what I would find. And I found this - another one of your fabulous videos on another fabulous mid-1950s car. The LINCOLN PREMIERE FOR 1956!
Now here we are in 2024, and a car like this is not what we see every day now. Lincoln was going up against Cadillac (as usual) and, over at Chrysler, Imperial was in its second year as a separate brand. Packard, meanwhile, was in its final year before the arrival of those "Packardbakers" that eventually drove it to its grave a short two years later. Many choices for luxury car buyers in 1956. Those were the days!
Thanks again, Lou, for another video. You always bring out one great and interesting video after another!

Back in the late 60’s my sun aunt and uncle had a 1956 Premier 4 door hardtop. It had been their main vehicle until 1967. They kept it as a secondary vehicle. Another uncle bought a 1957 Premier from a collector who had died back in the early 70’s. I remember it had a white leather interior.

It's interesting Dennis says a friend had this same color car in the early sixties. One of our neighbors had this same color scheme on a '56 Lincoln circa 1964. So it brought back some childhood memories.
That engine sounds ferocious! And it looked like it has a padded dash, unusual in '56.

Lou, my neighbor had a '57 just like this one except for huge tail fins. One very strange option was an automatic starter system. It would start for you and be nice and warm in the winter or it would kill the battery trying to fire up. Strange, very strange option. His was Aqua with a white top. He was an older man but very sharp about this car.

Our neighbors across the alley had a cream-white 1957 Premiere with cream and turquoise upholstery, factory AC (I loved the tubes) and a Continental Kit. The car was so long that their garage door couldn't close. They owned the only fountain pen sales and repair shop in Downtown Los Angeles and made a good living. They replaced it in 1965 with a Ford Country Squire Galaxie station wagon.

This really brings me back!...While stationed in the Navy in San Diego, 1970--I somehow found a jewel of a 1957 Lincoln Premiere. Turquoise color, 4-door, with that 368 engine (for 57, the hp was boosted to an even 300) The car at that time had only 33,000 miles on it...and I bought it for $800 bucks!...Being a young idiot about cars, I decided to sell it less than a year later. Over these last 50+ years now, I have not seen more than a half-dozen of these excellent cruisers, here in the Seattle area. I have read, that the 1957 model was not popular with Lincoln fans...and in 1958, Lincoln changed the styling dramatically, and stuck with that new look, for over a decade. The 1957 model year sported large fins--not appreciated by the wealthier car buyers, I guess!...that model year was the lowest-selling year of the 1950s, for Lincoln.

Hi, Lou! Nothing like having a big ol' pink Lincoln breathe fire in your face to celebrate the 4th! LOL! By the way, if you think this back window is slick, you ought to watch the back window of any 1956 Chrysler Corporation four-door hardtop. You'll definitely want to demonstrate that if you ever get the chance.
Many thanks to you and Dennis for this video Premiere of his new pride and joy! Enjoy the fireworks, and Happy Birthday!

I retired from working over 30 years from second shift a year ago. Told myself I want to be going to a lot of vintage car shows Monday thru Friday. Yesterday on Monday I was at the car show in Skokie IL and saw this pink beauty. Met Dennis wife chilling in the car while Dennis was getting some steps in. I was wondering what those scoops were and thanks for explaining this in this video. Wasn't able to see the trunk or the engine. I lived in Oak Brook for five years and I know exactly the frontage road along Roosevelt you were cruising on

I've always seen the 1956 Lincoln as THE prettiest of all Lincolns.
The 4-V was progressive linkage and under full acceleration, the rear barrels opened which was like dropping into a lower gear.

Beautiful car! I like the "tuck and roll" seat upholstery. In 1957 they would offer the popular "button and biscuit" upholstery that would be seen on Lincolns and T-Birds into the early 1960's. The air conditioning system required a
whopping 6.5 pounds of Freon (the R-12 good stuff) compared to around 3 pounds in today's cars. I will email an interesting article to you an the A/C.
