Hi, RodRock Mixing. The summed mic signal out of Pro Tools is a line level signal that was routed to the ¼” input on the Quad Cortex. The QC can accept line level so this works great if you’re blending multiple mics in your DAW before sending them to be captured. Thanks for your interest! I've managed to capture some presets from my Fractal Audio FM3 but is it possible to capture only the cab block from my FM3 ? I can't seem to get it to work after updating to CorOS 2.0.
Wait I didnt know this was a feature, I can make a digital copy of my exact rig with this, even if the amps arent neural plugins/stock quad cortex amps? I dont have one but Im researching them
Yeah, let's add all this up: Neural DSP Quad Cortex: $1850 Shure SM57 microphone: $100 Royer R-121: $1500 Neumann U 87: $3700 So I can recreate the modeling shown here for the low, low price of $7150. yay.
@@tomsanders5584 - Well, if you play live and mic your amp with an SM57 or equivalent, then wouldn't that be what you're trying to model? And wouldn't it be a lot less expensive to just capture that sound? Essentially, the Quad Cortex would then replace your tube amp and SM57. In which case you can sell that gear and get some money back. I'm betting that if you wanted to capture your pedals however ... you'd want to use high quality gear to capture the pedal accurately. But that's what the Cloud market is for ... to compensate the folks that have all the tools to get a good capture of a specific pedal or interface. I'm thinking like all that Strymon gear, for instance.
When you play all the heavy metal stuff with super high gain, you may as well do it digitally. The best way to tell if something captures guitar/amp well...a clean amp...maybe try it also with a little crunch....all that gain you started with? 2:59 ? what's the point. All the purely digital amp modelers do the same thing..super high gain and then ad effects. They sound sterile..but then, so does that sound live. Ever notice how the people playing it sound the same? Different guitars, different amps...may as well be the same rig everywhere. DSM Simplifier gets a great clean and lower gain tone...all analog. Simplifier DLX is just as good, but ads some digital reverb. Now, get off my lawn...or maybe I wandered on to the neighbor's lawn and I'll wander back home...time for the early bird special or something.
im more of a clean sound strat type of guy, lets say i have a tone king imperial and my favorite pedals, and I already dialed my tones, can i capture each tone (each one with different preamp levels and pedal settings) and then just use each capture in different parts of my songs when i play live?
I want to see a digitally controlled, modular distortion pedal or amp, where the circuit itself is able to be changed digitally. one that could change buffers, input caps, clipping diodes, etc etc.
That sounds awesome. Some effects units can do stuff like that... I'm thinking the Elektron Analog Heat does most of what you're saying (as an analog drive/fuzz effect, not a whole amp). It is definitely within the realm of possibility.... all the technologies seem to currently exist to make it possible.
@@davemccall9594 right? Even my 20yr old digital multifx unit has all analog distortion, and even better converters than today’s consumer stuff. This kind of digital control over analog circuits is barely becoming popular with synthesizers, but I’ve never seen anything like what I mentioned. Should I try to get some patents?
If your rig does not sound like it's cutting through something big like a chainsaw would, time to get a new rig. And don't be afraid to mix match heads and cabinets. Just because it has the same name doesn't mean it's good.
"Digital hiss." Digital does not have "hiss." Digital does not have - it's own sound. The idea that "digital has a sound," is a complete myth. The processing can be poor, or the analog side can add noise. Ones and zeros do not have a sound. They represent information.

Just treat the Captor X as the microphone in this instance. I plan to get a Cortex and do this exact method.

What's up with the whole alien sound part what are you even doing?
That's the quad cortex capture process. It sends those signals and sounds through the amp to create the digital capture.

@@graxjpg Yeah.
You would be surprised how accurate it can be ...give it a try
But basically every digital model has some hi frequency artefacts. Not related to 1s and 0s, but to the limits of digital emulation
The high hiss they talk about is usually aliasing. But that goes away with oversampling.
Thats not dial up...
