Modern Novosibirsk appeared in 1893 as a New Village in connection with the construction of a railway bridge over the Ob River during the Trans-Siberian Railway, writes Wikipedia. Since at that time it was relevant to give the names of rulers to settlements, first the village was made from the village of Alexandrovsky, in honor of Emperor Alexander III, and then renamed in honor of Nicholas II to Novonikolaevsky, then to the city of Novonikolaevsk.
I've been living in NSK for all my life. When I pause and look back, I realize that the city is really growing fast. I used to dislike these five-floor buildings, which are called “Khrushchevs” here in Russia (in the name of its promoter, the Soviet leader N.S Hruschov, 1894 - 1971, it was a cheap living space available for everyone). But the less I see them behind the new buildings the more they look like history giving me some nostalgic vibes. And they usually have such quiet and green courtyards where it is pleasant to relax on a hot and busy day =) Wish all the luck to you and the growth to your channel.
Good to hear your comparisons with America. All cities have old areas .Some preserve during expansion where others are demolished. With all the units being built Novosibirsk must be attracting people from all over Russia for its lifestyle. I only spent one night in Novosibirsk but went to my first Ice Hokey Game enjoyed the old tram heated seats and loved the size of the Railway Station..
It seems to me that there is construction all over Russia right now, especially in large cities or not so large cities, but interesting from the point of view of history and tourism. And this process tends to increase and expand. All the time you can see something being built or repaired or read about plans to build something new, large-scale and grandiose. And it makes me very happy.
@k1ssulja You live in a parallel world. What tourism? In times of war? When young Russians are being sent to kill and be killed in Ukraine? When billions of rubles are being wasted on weapons which are then used to destroy Ukrainian cities? Russia is grandiose the same way Nazi Germany was grandiose - in madness, destruction and callous indifference of ordinary citizens.

Thank you for taking us all along on the journey. Really enjoying this - those pigeons were Kamikaze. I could not help but wonder if you were trying a new method of pike fishing when you dipped your fingers in the Ob river?
A beautiful monument to Lenin. Russians cherish Lenin's monuments, cherish them - they are native to Russians. Where Ilyich stands and proudly looks at the city -this city rises from the ruins, develops, is being built. There is a revival of Russia. And the Ukrainians, in their native land, knocked Lenin down, abused him. And Lenin did not forgive them such humiliation and began to punish them, plunging Ukraine into the dark depths of chaos of inadequacy. That's the order of wisdom. Believe it or not)

The less fancy part of the city that you called “old” was built in the late 50s early 60s, in Khrushchev’s time (not really old). Hence the common name of these “plain buildings” in Russian: “khrushchovka”.

Peace✌🏼

Hey brother. I’m jealous you found El Centro Taqueria on your first trip to Novosibirsk. I lived there for 6 years and it took me about 2 years to find it. Best tacos and burritos there second only to taco street vendors in Los Angeles (my hometown by way of birth). Sorry you had to endure the vehicle mayham near the Ob River. Those roads are definitely not pedestrian-friendly especially when you want to get to the other side closest to the river. I also believe you made your way to the left-bank part of the city. That part is considered more affordable as compared to the right side. I lived in both areas. The left side is very “homey” and I have nothing but wonderful memories living there. Novosibirsk is deff unforgettable and I’m glad you enjoyed your visit there. Semper Fi!
So you miss communist times? I know that the communists often speak about Putin and modern Russia in a similar spirit. They remember only the good things about the USSR and have forgotten all the bad things that were in it.
Great video !! You're right, imagine walking near the Skid Row or something like that , or any place around downtown LA, you'll be killed. Security is something I really appreciate about Russia!

Novonikolayevsk ("New Nicholas") was the cities original name and probably the reason why you saw the statute of Tsar Nicholas 2 and his son Alexia. I'm sure you won't find many Tsar statues in Siberia. I was shocked to see that one. In the late 1800s Tsar Nicholas 2 father Tsar Alexander 3 used to send all the political dissidents to Siberia.. hence the reason why years later Vladimir Lenin became popular. As always a great video. . and beautiful city.

Its amazing and its growing so fast
Very interesting and informative 😊 Thank you.
it’s sad that we stayed for such a short time
@@Wild-Siberia perhaps you will come back again. Russia is so fast. You need a lifetime to explore just that wonderful country ❤️🇷🇺
That sounds absolutely amazing no one mentioned this to me or I would have gone this trip!
And they usually have such quiet and green courtyards where it is pleasant to relax on a hot and busy day =)
Wish all the luck to you and the growth to your channel.
Thank you very much for giving input on what you've seen please share with others from your city I love reading what natives have to say!
I just was in Novosibirsk - yesterday! how small the world is..
world is small Russia is massive 😂
@@zed007 I have a small vocabulary for things like this
Good to hear your comparisons with America.
That sounds like such a good and comfortable form of travel!
It's actually true Russia is for sure flourishing!
Yes, it's true, I see it too, the trend pleases!
@k1ssulja
You live in a parallel world.

@@Wild-Siberia I began looking at mailing info- USPS Retail International Pkg rate is max 4 lbs and may be pricy considering that it goes by 1/2 lb increments... Pkg size, customs restrictions , etc are typical with international...
@@sidnelson9379 was just thinking for future small electronics it may be easier to ship from Hawaii to Korea or Mongolia
@@Wild-Siberia Oddly enough Hawaiian shipping and USPO mail has to go to mainland before mailing international, and we have the same extreme zone (10) to send or receive anywhere on the mainland for First Class Mail.. When I checked the zone/pricing it was for Cali to Mongolia. I dare say that either Korea or Ulaan Baatar might have a better spread of items than available in Hilo or Kailua Kona ; -).

Semper Fi!
