Far cry from small boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts. You know? Rush goalie. Four at the back, three in the middle, two up front, one's gone home for his tea. Beans on toast? Possibly. Don't quote me on that. Hm, isn't it? Marvellous.
WHEN I WAS A KID IN THE EARLY 1950'S , AND PLAYING FOR MY SCHOOL, WE ALL DID WHAT THEY SHOW HERE, THE WHOLE TEAM CHASING THE BALL ALL OVER THE PITCH. WE NEVER WON, BUT WE WERE HAPPY.
The size of the U.K. at the beginning always cracks me up. It should be against the rules to score when the opposing keeper hasn't had time to put his cigarette out!
Used to watch these all the time years ago & loved them. But I've only now just noticed how big they've plastered the UK on the spinning globe shown at beginning of the set piece. Brilliant.
if you watch old universal movies from the 50's you will notice that Japan is huuuuge compared to its actual size as the Americans wanted it's citizens to think that there was no way a tiny nation like that could keep them at war for as long as they did
Most lovely to watch lots of jolly young chaps playing at footing the ball. But what do I know, I'm merely a woman and I know my place. Hooray Hooray all the bally same.
In university there was a lad who was a brilliant footballer who would revert to Charles Charlie Charles gamesmanship when we were over 3 infront. Absolutely hilarious 😊
First saw this one the plane years and years ago...one of those flights where nobody else got the headphones...we were hysterica and everyone was looking at us wondering what the hell was going on!!! hahaha
You know., we'd have won the Euro 2020 AND the 2022 World Cup had we had Mr. Nat "Mind your legs please" Nuthouse, Charles Charlie Charles, Wilf "Adapted to Speed" Finney, and Stan "Between the Posts" Hartley in the starting 11.
LOL! The part about pushing the keeper into the goal actually wasn't far from the truth. You were allowed to check the keeper back then but they eventually outlawed it because it was causing too many injuries, like int he 1956 and 57 FA Cup finals
THAT'S THE DEAD GREY HAND OF PC FOR YOU, WHICH, BY STEALTH, HAS SLOWLY DESTROYED THE MOST PRECIOUS EXAMPLE OF THIS UNIQUE AND WONDERFUL LAND'S GIFT TO THE WORLD.
It's great to see this again, I recall it was a fffu freezing day at the QPR ground when i did my George Formby skit, 'Your'e my favourite mother' indeed! Danny (Mr Darcy)
The Cameroon (elbow incident by Cameroon player: Cameroon v. Croatia FIFA World Cup 2014) sending off tonight suddenly reminded me of the Arsenal second half tactics on this clip but now for real.
hahaha hilarious not seen this for years "getting out his little Black book, nope it's the Oxford English dictionary" modern game all over brilliant stuff!
Simply one of the best comedy sketches ever made.
Harry at the top of his game.
@@michaelhill6453 Been an interesting 17 years.

Joe B I read that in Ron Manager’s voice ;)

Even funnier today than it was 30 years ago. Might be the best sketch Harry ever did!
I'd have to agree with that statement, tbh, although "Women, know your limits," runs a very close second.
@@MrBirchieBirch I don't know why but the notion of a footballer smoking on the pitch is just rib cracking funny!
Born and brought up in Slough, have lived in the US for 26 years, my American Co workers, absolutely LOVED this!
I can't stop laughing at Mr. George Banjo singing in the middle of that huge field all alone! British humor is unsurpassed. SO funny!
#GeorgeFormby
@@aclark903 Turned out nice again
This is THE funniest thing I have ever seen. Every time I watch I am crying with laughter.
The size of the U.K. at the beginning always cracks me up.
It should be against the rules to score when the opposing keeper hasn't had time to put his cigarette out!
I am American and that was bloody hilarious!
+Michael Lubin Welcome to English humour,,,,,,
that was for real surely?
This is by far the funniest thing I have ever watched on TV, ever. Never fails to make me cry with laughter. Brilliant.
Used to watch these all the time years ago & loved them. But I've only now just noticed how big they've plastered the UK on the spinning globe shown at beginning of the set piece.
Brilliant.
Haha I'd never noticed that. It's the size of Africa 😂
I remember going down the pub after this was aired..and EVERYONE was talking about it.
Work of genius..
His warm up kick gets me every time. That and "the goal keeper didn't even have time to put his cigarette out".
The man they call "Mr Banjo", Mr George Banjo.
And the captain- a Mr.Charles Charlie-Charles of the Charles brothers!
The beginning with the spinning globe cracks me up. Check out the size of the UK
I never ever noticed that
+FrankieM1974 never noticed that before

The equatorial Isle of Wight.
How the F did I not notice that I think I need to go to specsavers.
Most lovely to watch lots of jolly young chaps playing at footing the ball. But what do I know, I'm merely a woman and I know my place. Hooray Hooray all the bally same.
'Women! Know your Limits' are my overall favourites (-although I love all of the Mr.Cholmondley-Warner sketches)...
Class will out, excellent comment :-)
But do you think the government should go on the Gold Standard??
Did your husband teach you how the use the computer or did the butler write it for you?
Well, we're all glad to hear that you don't have dangerous opinions of your own :-)
Oh man, I saw this as a kid and all I could remember was the guy with the bayonet. This is still bloody funny.
His best ever sketch, hilarious even now, remember goin on about it in work for months when first screened.
Sir Harry Enfield...genius leg-end =D
This is simply my favourite Harry Enfield sketch ever!!
I remember watching this on Harry Enfield's programme when it was first shown and nearly pissing myself laughing.
In university there was a lad who was a brilliant footballer who would revert to Charles Charlie Charles gamesmanship when we were over 3 infront. Absolutely hilarious 😊
“It’s almost as if the ball is glued to his feet!”
Remember watching this 20 odd years ago , still as funny, love it!
"It looks like the ball is glued to his foot".
Made me cry laughing
one of the best football games ever
Twas a nail biting end
I really like the accurate depiction of Great Britain on the globe at the beginning of the sketch (0.05).
Sadly this is still how England still play in the world cup :/
First saw this one the plane years and years ago...one of those flights where nobody else got the headphones...we were hysterica and everyone was looking at us wondering what the hell was going on!!! hahaha
I can't believe I've found this classic clip 👍👍👍👍👍
This is a ALL TIME classic - thanks for posting !
Excellent clip! One of the few football-related ones I'll happily watch!
How can some people not like this very strange
Who knows cornfed. I guess they don't have a sense of humour - but there is no accounting for taste. Cheers!
although ive seen this before, ive had a joint tonight and nearly pissed myself, literally.
Football used to be vicious, even the ball was like a medicine ball, a modern team would mostly be stretchered off before the whistle.
You are right about a football. In the late 40's I had a leather ball and when it was wet it was like a block of cement.
"Liverpool may be professionals trained to the peak of physical fitness".
Wait, isn't Jan Molby there?
remember it's a comedy show.
I love th spinning globe at the start with Great Britain the size of Africa 😂
Fact is...
This educational filum is far more interesting than modern fuss ball.
I needed this today. This is hilarious
LOL! The part about pushing the keeper into the goal actually wasn't far from the truth. You were allowed to check the keeper back then but they eventually outlawed it because it was causing too many injuries, like int he 1956 and 57 FA Cup finals
+أفلاك الأفكار Too bad!
this shit is absolutely hilarious..."and he's found one, and he's brought his mother to disprove it" ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
"Charles charlie charles" 😂😂😂😂 priceless.
One half of the famous Charles brothers!
I can't believe 12 people disliked this! This was one of Harry and Paul's best ever sketches.
clearly Liverpool fans
Absolutely brilliant.
The only football related thingy I enjoy.
It's like watching the real Arsenal with that start to the game
The punch to the ref and headbutt to the goalie are fucking hilarious.
Yeah.. reminded me of Vinnie Jones
And the crowd found that most pleasant lol
If only the premier league was like this, it would actually be interesting to watch.
the arsenal tactics remind me of primary school football - everyone chasing/following the ball and no positions
I don't know how I stumbled across this video but I'm glad I did! This was soo funny!
Wilf “Adapted for speed” Finney😂
Absolutely brilliant.
Started very funny, ended absolutely hilarious 😂
CLASSIC HILARIOUS COMEDY, BEFORE IT GOT REPLACED BY.............EMPTYNESS
+MrNooneseesme Not helped by the sacking of the Top Gear hosts.
Not enough minorities or women in this sketch, so it couldn't be done now. Sigh.
lol
MrNooneseesme the time before big brother , X factor and strictly

Absolutely brilliant I love this video...always makes me laugh 😂😂😂❤️
Nice to see Mr George Banjo again after all these years.
LOL...Paul Whitehouse's side-to-side dribbling 'action'....hilarious!
They could remake this with 1990 team eating pies and drinking lager v 2024 PL team
quality

Christ, this is BRILLIANT.
Hes bringing his mother on to disprove it
Comedy genius at its very best......unlike the rubbish they have nowadays.

It wouldn't be the same without George Banjo
Better than the Euros
True.
England should play more like Arsenal here. 😂
THE HARRY ENFIELD SHOW IS HILARIOUS.THE BRITISH HAVE THE FUNNIEST SHOWS EVER,HEY MR BEAN AND BENNY HILL
Try You Tube for PHOENIX NIGHTS for a bit of Northern comedy ,
the best part is not to far from "real" life
Bloody brilliant !!!!
So so funny! Absolute genius.
The Cameroon (elbow incident by Cameroon player: Cameroon v. Croatia FIFA World Cup 2014) sending off tonight suddenly reminded me of the Arsenal second half tactics on this clip but now for real.
Look at the size of the UK on the globe.
Class, never noticed that.
THE BEST HARRY ENFIELD SKETCH.
This is how england still play. Like finney on the wing...
1:20 "...there's the right wing demon: Wilf 'Adapted For Speed' Finney... " XD XD XD absolute solid gold.
This still makes me laugh!
I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS ON THE HARRY ENFIELD SHOW YEARS AGO,ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS

this is why I love british comedy
"Charles...charlie charles" 😂 brilliant.

"The man they call Mr Banjo - Mr George Banjo."
Remember everyone doing Finney on the wing impressions. Great days.

I watch this at least once a week
Who came here after Brazil Vs Germany?
With the man they call Mr Banjo, Mr George Banjo!
hahaha hilarious not seen this for years "getting out his little Black book, nope it's the Oxford English dictionary" modern game all over brilliant stuff!
His commentary is hilarious aswell 🤣 genius..Charles Charlie Charles 😊
Sheer brilliance so hilarious !😊😊😊
Love it!
They should've had all of the Liverpool team like the Scousers.
Liverpool team of 1991? A lot of those guys would have had league winners medals. No wonder its in black & white!
genius :D
i'm literally crying with laughter XD
loving finny on the wing!!
