My opinion: your guitar breakdowns are the most valuable service that guitarists can ask for on youtube. Especially since every other review is sponsored by guitar manufacturers these days, and often the content creator has to send the guitar back in pristine condition. Keep up the awesome work!!
I really enjoy the break down videos and hope you continue to do more. Hopefully it will catch traction enough to hold the bigger companies accountable for the products they offer.

I really appreciate they guitar reviews. A guitar is like a screwdriver: when it works great, when it starts slipping replace it. I've been a pro for 40 years. If people would put half the time they spend anthropomorphizing guitars into practice, they would play much better.

I'd just like to echo what Corey said below: you truly ARE providing a valuable service to guitar players with the breakdown videos. No sponsored content (Phil Mcknight does this, respect; and there's so many youtubers who won't say a single bad word about the guitar they are reviewing...a certain cat outta Canada comes to mind), and being able to see inside the guitar...utterly fascinating. I love it. And I thought your "soundboard" video was amazing. I know you can't give away how you voice the braces, but any video discussing the soundboard and bracing are extremely valuable to your audience. People don't know about all the corners these companies are cutting. And seeing dried glue and gaps inside the guitar really holds these guitar makers accountable. It was an eye opener for me, even thought I've been playing guitars for 25 years. The truth matters, so I just thank you gentlemen for what you're doing. By the way, the songwriter guitar sounded like a piano almost! Just amazing. I'll never be able to afford such a piece of art, but it's awesome to know that small shops like you guys are turning out masterpieces. Cheers.
While I must admit, when I first watched the PRS breakdown video my initial reaction (in my head) was "noooooo!". That said, I completely understand and support the concept behind the video series and appreciate the resulting information. I do still wince a bit when the drop test is done. Brings back some bad memories over my 33 years of gigging. Thanks for allo the great content.
Chris: I enjoy your channel very much. Keep it going. I have gained a lot of knowledge on guitar building from your channel- both from your discussion and by watching your processes. The breakdown videos are terrific and provide a valuable service. My brother was a working electric guitar musician inJacksonville beach Fla and always need durable coupled with great sound. You make a very interesting point that the build quality and sound are a reflection of your talents while you use your talents to make a meaningful statement for your customer through inlay. Two suggestions: 1) bring out a jazz guitar. I see that you build them maybe you can show off that model. 2) Also go back to that guitar in your first video with no audio, play the guitar and compare and contrast it to your current model. Good interaction between you and Matt is fun and entertaining too.
I'd love to see you guys engineer a way to glue a few of those guitars back together just to see how much of its tone and playability comes back...That would be cool as hell...

I must admit that never having built a guitar and spending the families hard earned money to buy the number that I have, it's difficult to watch one being put to the guillotine, but Ferrari breaks down engines that are worth north of $700,000.00 and it's done in the vein of demonstration. The cutting of the guitar seemed a bit jarring to me as well, and I think that's a natural first reaction of every musician/guitar enthusiast, but in the context of comprehensive reviews that you provide, I believe it has a lot of value. For every guitar you cut to provide the customers with valuable information, there are likely thousands upon thousands destroyed by malice and/or neglect (guitar bought for a spoiled kid and hundreds of other different possible scenarios). BTW is there any chance you could make a review of Cort Core? I know you get plenty of those requests, and they probably all seem arbitrary (people just name guitars they own or are interested in buying) but I think it's an objectively interesting example. Cort Core is near the top of the range of a more 'budget' brand, and it offers an all solid-wood construction for not a lot of money. It seems like one of the greatest 'bang for the buck' options out there, and I wonder if your review would confirm or disprove that.
The guitar breakdowns sometimes hurt to watch, but they are super helpful. I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have already learned a lot. For example, thanks to you guys, the Taylor Academy 12 Grand Concert has been moved to the top of my shopping list (because I need a decent acoustic to move up to) and certain other acoustics have been taken off the list entirely. Also, I would have never guessed your inspirations to be DeMuro and Project Farm. But now that you mentioned it, I see it. Aesthetically, however, your production values are much higher than theirs, imo. I was especially taken with one of your videos showing the making it a guitar. It was truly cinematic. Well done, guys, and thanks for the hard work.

For me the guitar breakdown concept if for you guys to educate the vast majority of people who loves a particular brand/model and somehow making us realize should I’d be paying that much given that sound + build quality. I watched your building a 3000 year old guitar and through that video Chris was able to build his credibility to me as a guitar builder to give his feedback to those broken down guitars based on his experience and knowledge. Awesome content Chris & Matt! Keep it up!
Making negative comments about your guitars and insinuating a sub-standard tone as a trade-off for beautiful inlays, or comparing your work to mass-production (ie: McDonald's) is like saying that the paint job on a Rolls-Royce must be compensating for the quality of its underlying craftsmanship, or comparing your Italian Grandmothers Spaghetti Sauce to a jar of Ragu. These people crack me up! You guys are so real and so much fun to watch. The intensity I've seen in the smallest details of your builds is what separates you from the masses. I've never played one of your instruments but because of this channel, I want to! Keep them coming guys. Thanks for all you (both) do!

People just need something to bitch about. For some reason, many people have a need to tear things and other people down to make them feel superior. So don't take any of their idiocy to heart. Your videos fill a much needed niche and are fun to watch while providing knowledge.

Please continue to do the breakdown videos. It gives ordinary people the opportunity to see how "sloppy" some presumably high end guitars actually are. In fact, I would love to see a hand-built/custom built breakdown series from custom builders around the country. It would be interesting to compare their standards to yours (might even give you some ideas). I know factories cut corners but I have also seen some premium priced custom built guitars have corners cut. Perhaps a series like that could help up the standards?

Hey guys, I have all the respect in the world for any luthier and my comment is about why I think there are so many mean comments. The thumbnails of your factory tours at first glance give the impression that you are scoffing at the manufacturers which makes it look like you think that you are better than all of them. I know that is not the case because I have taken the time to watch the whole videos and most people don't. Again, that's just what I think! Love your vids, keep up the good work! 🎸

Great podcast, your guitars are beautiful and you're true masters of the craft, very informative and down to earth as well. Don't let the haters get you down. Btw, I love the dissection of the guitars.
The breakdown videos are great. I'm just sad that you started with "budget" guitars that are already outside of my price range. I'd really love to see some guitars from the $200 to $400 range or even lower just to see how the quality really changes over the different price ranges, and where you start seeing the diminishing return on investment. Based on that mid-range Gibson (which sounds like you were referencing in this video), I can't imagine the $200 to $400 range being much worse, if at all. For that low range, seeing an additional cut-through for a cross-section of the front and back panels would be nice too, to see if they're actually solid wood or not (and what it means to not be solid wood). Maybe that cut could come from the top bout (sp?), where a cutout to reach the fingerboard would go. No bracing to get in the way there, and also wouldn't totally ruin the cool cross-section look for seeing all the bracing.
Others have done video about mean comments. Yep, but really in this case, your video is more of entertainment and really not doing damage control of the mean comments. Good video.
Don't let those who come on the internet to poop on strangers in order to try and feel better about themselves get you down. That's their baggage, not yours. That said, it's often so hard not to let that stuff run around and around in our heads.
People have opinions like everybody has a rear end, I started watching the content that you guys put out because I enjoy it. You guys clearly enjoy it too. Yes, when I see you guys destroy a guitar it hurts, I think that has more to do with the fact I'm not able to get myself a new guitar. A lot of the so called mean comments say more about the person who posts it than that it says anything about the content you put out. Keep up the great work.
To respond to the video, though, I remember as a kid watching the Letterman show where he would go on top of a several story tall building and drop bowling balls on things. As an example one night he had a tv plugged in below and said something like 'the ABC late night show is cancelled!' as he dropped the bowling ball 3 or 4 floors into the tv screen. I say all that just to suggest a second method of opening up acoustic guitars you buy.
The Break Down video of the Gibson G-45 was the first video from your channel dished to me by the YT algorithm yesterday. At first I'm thinking "No way. They're going to do that? This is going to be painful to watch. Then again, it's not my money spent and wasteful." At the end of the video I'm happy I'm now not going to spend $1200 on junk and "they're providing an invaluable service." Edit: AHA! I subscribe to Doug & Project Farm as well... and there's a channel on shoe/boot dissection I've watched in the past. I think I'm figuring out the YT correlations in their algorithm. I also subscribe to a bunch of guitar makers/reviews/players channels too which of course makes it not totally "out there" in suggesting your channel.
My Golf Spy cuts all kinds of golf balls in half to show bad quality. It really ticked off Callaway but also forced them to invest in their manufacturing process and have better quality. Cutting acoustics in half should force guitar companies to improve quality now that the cat is out of the bag. Really appreciate you guys doing this and I now know to stay away from an X Series Martin. Was on the fence about getting one.
Wish I'd seen your videos before starting to build acoustic guitars. I've not disagreed with anything you have done/said even though I do some things differently. I am interested in hearing your ideas and observations on trends in customer preferences. What's selling? Models, woods, features, etc. Thanks!

Cort Core is near the top of the range of a more 'budget' brand, and it offers an all solid-wood construction for not a lot of money. It seems like one of the greatest 'bang for the buck' options out there, and I wonder if your review would confirm or disprove that.
The guitar breakdowns sometimes hurt to watch, but they are super helpful. I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have already learned a lot. For example, thanks to you guys, the Taylor Academy 12 Grand Concert has been moved to the top of my shopping list (because I need a decent acoustic to move up to) and certain other acoustics have been taken off the list entirely.
Also, I would have never guessed your inspirations to be DeMuro and Project Farm. But now that you mentioned it, I see it. Aesthetically, however, your production values are much higher than theirs, imo. I was especially taken with one of your videos showing the making it a guitar. It was truly cinematic.

For me the guitar breakdown concept if for you guys to educate the vast majority of people who loves a particular brand/model and somehow making us realize should I’d be paying that much given that sound + build quality.
I watched your building a 3000 year old guitar and through that video Chris was able to build his credibility to me as a guitar builder to give his feedback to those broken down guitars based on his experience and knowledge.

Making negative comments about your guitars and insinuating a sub-standard tone as a trade-off for beautiful inlays, or comparing your work to mass-production (ie: McDonald's) is like saying that the paint job on a Rolls-Royce must be compensating for the quality of its underlying craftsmanship, or comparing your Italian Grandmothers Spaghetti Sauce to a jar of Ragu. These people crack me up! You guys are so real and so much fun to watch. The intensity I've seen in the smallest details of your builds is what separates you from the masses. I've never played one of your instruments but because of this channel, I want to! Keep them coming guys. Thanks for all you (both) do!

I don't have much trouble with umms, but, you know, the you knows are dragging me down. I hear myself in conversation, tell myself, "stop saying you know" and, you know, totally can't stop;)
😂 The end comments make me think of 60 Cycle Hum channel. "Like, Subscribe, leave rude and nasty comments..." Sometimes he'll even pin particularly rude comments. Reading the other viewers pile on in defense or agreement is pretty fun.

Please continue to do the breakdown videos. It gives ordinary people the opportunity to see how "sloppy" some presumably high end guitars actually are. In fact, I would love to see a hand-built/custom built breakdown series from custom builders around the country. It would be interesting to compare their standards to yours (might even give you some ideas). I know factories cut corners but I have also seen some premium priced custom built guitars have corners cut. Perhaps a series like that could help up the standards?

Hey guys, I have all the respect in the world for any luthier and my comment is about why I think there are so many mean comments. The thumbnails of your factory tours at first glance give the impression that you are scoffing at the manufacturers which makes it look like you think that you are better than all of them. I know that is not the case because I have taken the time to watch the whole videos and most people don't. Again, that's just what I think! Love your vids, keep up the good work! 🎸

The breakdown videos are great. I'm just sad that you started with "budget" guitars that are already outside of my price range. I'd really love to see some guitars from the $200 to $400 range or even lower just to see how the quality really changes over the different price ranges, and where you start seeing the diminishing return on investment. Based on that mid-range Gibson (which sounds like you were referencing in this video), I can't imagine the $200 to $400 range being much worse, if at all. For that low range, seeing an additional cut-through for a cross-section of the front and back panels would be nice too, to see if they're actually solid wood or not (and what it means to not be solid wood). Maybe that cut could come from the top bout (sp?), where a cutout to reach the fingerboard would go. No bracing to get in the way there, and also wouldn't totally ruin the cool cross-section look for seeing all the bracing.
Others have done video about mean comments. Yep, but really in this case, your video is more of entertainment and really not doing damage control of the mean comments. Good video.
Don't let those who come on the internet to poop on strangers in order to try and feel better about themselves get you down. That's their baggage, not yours. That said, it's often so hard not to let that stuff run around and around in our heads.
People have opinions like everybody has a rear end, I started watching the content that you guys put out because I enjoy it. You guys clearly enjoy it too. Yes, when I see you guys destroy a guitar it hurts, I think that has more to do with the fact I'm not able to get myself a new guitar. A lot of the so called mean comments say more about the person who posts it than that it says anything about the content you put out. Keep up the great work.

To respond to the video, though, I remember as a kid watching the Letterman show where he would go on top of a several story tall building and drop bowling balls on things. As an example one night he had a tv plugged in below and said something like 'the ABC late night show is cancelled!' as he dropped the bowling ball 3 or 4 floors into the tv screen. I say all that just to suggest a second method of opening up acoustic guitars you buy.
The Break Down video of the Gibson G-45 was the first video from your channel dished to me by the YT algorithm yesterday. At first I'm thinking "No way. They're going to do that? This is going to be painful to watch. Then again, it's not my money spent and wasteful." At the end of the video I'm happy I'm now not going to spend $1200 on junk and "they're providing an invaluable service."
Edit: AHA! I subscribe to Doug & Project Farm as well... and there's a channel on shoe/boot dissection I've watched in the past. I think I'm figuring out the YT correlations in their algorithm. I also subscribe to a bunch of guitar makers/reviews/players channels too which of course makes it not totally "out there" in suggesting your channel.

My Golf Spy cuts all kinds of golf balls in half to show bad quality. It really ticked off Callaway but also forced them to invest in their manufacturing process and have better quality. Cutting acoustics in half should force guitar companies to improve quality now that the cat is out of the bag. Really appreciate you guys doing this and I now know to stay away from an X Series Martin. Was on the fence about getting one.
