    To anyone who wants to do something similar; look into studying abroad (short course etc) or a Workaway type situation. Getting out of where you grew up (the town, state, country etc) is the best thing you can do for yourself!

    PSA for any future travellers to Paris : do NOT lay down on the Tuileries gardens lawns! They are full of rat piss and feces, and it is worse in the morning and/or after rain, bc of the wetness it spreadsssss. Get a picnic blanket ☝️

      @candiceb8605 2 года назад +55

      @@travelfoodielove I have had to give advice before so I do have a list prepared haha, here it is :
      1. Culture
      The city of Paris is pretty small imo, so I wouldn't recommend limiting yourself to it. Here are the essentials to me :
      - the Louvre; when you go there, take time to stop by the musée des arts décoratifs ! It's my fave.
      - the Eiffel Tower; I've always felt like the big grass areas were a bit lame, I prefer walking along the Seine with a crepe, and reach musée d'Orsay which I love.
      - Versailles; it takes a full day to do it all! Most people don't go the the Domaine de Trianon, and I've always thought it was the best (the gardens are so charming). The city center is a very nice area to eat out, and I've heard hotels there are nice too.
      - Pompidou center; when you exit, you can go to one of the best ice cream shops in town, Glace Bachir, which is 2 min away by foot. After that, I would recommend walking along the Seine and through both Islands in which you can still see some medieval buildings. On Saint-Louis island, there's a square that has an access to a more private area of the banks of the Seine, it's called Square Barye (brace yourself though, you need to walk down a set of stairs that are dirty and smelly to get there).
      - Montmartre; to do it right (imo), get off at Abbesses or Anvers, go get something to eat at Babka Zana (it's quite close) and climb the Stairs to the top. Then you can eat with satisfaction. The Sacré Cœur is very much worth the visit, and if you wanna get some brunch, Hardware Society close-by is the place to go (they don't take reservations sooo, be there as early as possible).
      you should take advantage of everything the city has to offer : you can get the best views of Paris from the top of the Arc de Triomphe and the Montparnasse Tower (both are pricey if you are not a 26- EU citizen or student); you can get to Giverny in Normandy from the St Lazare train station (16eu journey to there and back), and visit Monet's House and Gardens; you can go to the outskirts and visit the Saint-Denis Basilica (to get there, you can take line 13 which is one of the worst, so brace yourself). That area is always bustling because there's one of the biggest markets in the Parisian area, and it's also one of best the places to go to buy (black)hair related products.
      Go to La Défense at sundown, do some shopping and walk around to enjoy street art pieces (some are hidden!).
      Take line 10 to Boulogne porte de Saint Cloud and enjoy the Albert Kahn museum whose gardens are adorable.
      Overall, you wanna do as many museums as possible, especially if they are located in different parts of the city, which will help you discover new areas. Don't hesitate to enter churches as well, some are very surprising (my faves are Saint Jean Bosco in the 20th, located near the Saint Fargeau neighbourhood in which there are adorable streets with adorable houses; and Saint Louis en l'île because it is always the best pit stop to get some fresh air in the middle of a summer stroll).
      2. Balads
      I would recommend, when you're going some place (museum, shopping, café...), to prefer taking public transports + walking to get a better feel of the area.
      My favourite areas are :
      - the Opera neighbourhood. From there, you can go North and window shop at the galleries lafayette, or you can get a bite at one of many Asian restaurants (Sanjo is excellent, Cantine de Lotus is my fave, Aki Boulangerie is nice for snacks, the Alley is perfect for Bubble tea). By foot you can access the Louvre, the Champs Élysées, the Tuileries, the Orangerie, Châtelet even;
      - the "quartier Latin" in which there are a lot of cafés, the historical sites of La Sorbonne (go to the Gibert Jeune boutiques if you wanna buy cheap books, stationary or CDs and Vinyls!), the Arènes de Lutèce, best place to sit and chat or read a book, the Grande Mosquée, that can be visited and where they sell pastries that I like to eat in the jardin des Plantes which is right next door;
      - the North of 20th arrondissement which is full of surprises (buttes Chaumont and le Belvedere de Belleville 💕);
      - as is the 13th around Olympiades. Also near the Cité Universitaire, which can be visited if you like architecture. West of Parc Montsouris, there are many many cute HOUSES that you can dream of living in one sweet day;
      - the 18th (very welcoming and diverse, even though it suffers from its reputation), which is where Pigalle and Montmartre are located.
      3. Nightlife
      Most Parisians (I am a "banlieusarde" which means I come from the outskirts of Paris) like to hang out in :
      - Bastille and Saint-Michel (best bar crawl areas);
      - République (lots of cafés and new restaurants are opening every week);
      - La Villette (you get some beer and snacks, and you sit on the grass with your mates) at night in the summer;
      - Pigalle, where you get a bite at the Bouillon and get a drink at any bar nearby;
      - les Grands Boulevards (Bonne Nouvelle, Strasbourg Saint-Denis, Reaumur Sebastopol) to get a drink (mostly afterworks in my experience), chat, smoke and eat peanuts lol.
      4. Shopping
      Apart from the main markets :
      - Saint-Denis for cheap food, meat;
      - Rue Mouffetard for the same but expensive + seafood;
      - Porte de Montreuil for miscellaneous and clothing;
      - Porte de Clignancourt "puces de Saint-Ouen" for quality vintage findings;
      Paris is bustling with places to shop. While the Rue Montaigne is worth seeing (afterwards you can chill at the Jardin des Ambassadeurs nearby, or the Gardens of the Palais Galliera, which is the fashion museum, pricey but worth it), the Marais has a better selection of very French, very hip, very avant-garde boutiques. After your window shopping there, you can get a snack at the Swedish Institute nearby, it's one of my favourite places to chill (and a perfect place for the first step of a meet cute).
      AND :
      - don't get single tickets for the metro. It's a scam. It better to get weekly or monthly cards. There's one that can even be used for several members of the same tourist group, I've heard.
      - don't stand on the left side in the mechanical stairs. Always the right.
      - imo the Louvre shouldn't be done in a day. It won't move, you'll come back
      - be wary of any puddles of unidentified liquids, and mind your step (dog poop)
      - when they announce the presence of pickpockets in the metro, then most of the time it means they're already long gone. Some are children. I recommend that you close your purses and/or wear them underneath your coats bc tourists are the main target.
      - if you are not used to bustling and nervous people, avoid public transportation during the strikes/traffic interruptions.
      Enjoy the Parisian chaotic energy lmao! THE lawn during summer is the one in front of the Invalides Cathedral. Located avenue Breteuil.

    Hi elena ! I usually don’t comment but i love the energy of your videos! I enjoyed a lot watch you travel in my city, you even gave me adresses I didn’t know before! it’s funny that you talked about being too fast for paris! I study here for two years now, and every french ppl I know think that living paris is living a fast life (im originally from west part of France) and everyone tell me that i’m walking like a parisian now haha I guess New York is even faster :) Hope you will come back soon here ✨

  • @mathildeb.2609
    @mathildeb.2609 2 года назад +1

    It's so funny hearing you tell about how fast you are walking as New-Yorkers and the need to be constantly busy because it is how a lot of people feel about Paris actually! I never thought you could walk faster than a parisian ahaha. I live there and I can't imagine what it would be in NY then (I actually did spend a month and a half in NY and feel like I slowed down there, it's probably an effect of taking time to enjoy the place you are staying at :) ).

    Oh I did something similar I fortunately didn’t have to work while there but I was moving back to SF from LA and decided to take a month off my friend who is a teacher loves Paris and wanted to go for a month so I said let’s go. I had a little extra insurance money so it all lined up well. I’m glad I did it and hope to one day do something like that again we did travel around a few other parts of France and I went to England at the very end which helped me a lot but still a pretty great experience before having to go back to work and my everyday life back in my home city

    As a European, I am happy to say I have never spent 23e on a meal in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Prague or any of the other beautiful cities I have lived in. I have eaten champagne dinners with 4+ courses, gone to the fanciest neighbourhoods and enjoyed some huge meals.
    You have no reason to be impressed by spending over 20e on an "extravagant" meal.. 9/10 times that means you did it wrong.
    Still, I am glad you enjoyed your food.

    Wait you're Iranian?! I know that most polyglots always say that Persian/Iranian is the most beautiful language in the world, do you speak it?

    Love watching your videos. this is such a relaxing vlog. What bag did you use for this trip?
    Have you tried using a duffle bag for your travel? I recommend using the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane.
