    We had friends visiting from the Midwest and we decided to show them a Mushroom Wonderland video on truffles. The next day we took them out into the forest. When the teenager stepped out of the car she said, “is this one?” It was! We found 16 truffles. 6.6 ozs of Oregon white truffles. Thanks, Aaron!

    Awesome! We called those orange bellied salamanders mud puppies, too 😅 Penny, and your pup should hang out more. He just needs more practice. I laughed when you said they have no smell. Penny would disagree 😂

      Definitely, all dogs as far as I know. They're sense of smell is about 10,000 times that of humans. And dogs are easy to train.

    Is it possible to find truffles without a dog (or pig)? Do you have any videos or links to techniques for finding truffles without critters' help?

    • @mushroomwonderland1
      @mushroomwonderland1  5 месяцев назад

      Raking is a pretty ancient practice, and still be used to find truffles. Controversy surrounds it as to whether it is hard on the environment, but it's usually done in tree plantations, and the raking is done very shallow. Some would even argue that it's good for the trees. Usually people who rake look for signs of squirrel that may be digging in that area. Jack Czarnicke wrote a good book about truffles, and it talks about raking a bit.
