Fun Fact: Ricky was actually insane in Backyard Soccer '98. He has a 4 in Kicking, a 3 in control in Running, and a 1 in Defense. This averages out to a 2.75/4 in averages and he is a menace. Bro became insane a year later. If there was any character in fiction that had a major glow up it would be him.
I remember that certain pitchers had better stats for different types of pitches. Kenny could keep the slowball over the plate at 0 juice and Luanne Lui had a super small swing spot for her left hook and heat pitch as well as fast running which was perfect for fielding bunts. I would put her right up at the top personally but I haven't played the game in around 20 years.
It's nice to see someone else put Pete ahead of Pablo too. My only real disagreement would be that I would have ronny dobbs in usable. He is a great pitcher with an elite fastball and displays solid power
@@DynoMikeGaming Best pitcher(s) are Webber twins when they are together. They have small heat, slowball, and left hook zones with great stamina. And you get 2 of them!
Me when Angela drops the ball 4 times in a row costing me 3 points: Yeah I love Angela as the designated Pitcher and with her occasional homeruns, but her dropping the ball possibly at the most inopportune times just makes her SLIGHTLY below elite tier to me
kimmy on the gba version of backyard baseball is a beast, mainly because you can powerhit for a homerun on literally anybody in the game. she's a mighty fine catcher for my all-girls team
Your rating for Dmitri is probably more controversial than your rating for Pete, but all in all, I'd say this is a pretty solid list. The most I disagreed with was a tier up or down from where you placed a character, and that was only for a few players. Well done :)
this!! his stats absolutely skyrocket when with his brother. he’s easily one of my top players and i will always pick both of them. it’s honestly so cute that they have such a good sibling bond
One other thing about Billy Jean Blackwood is her reach. This makes her a good choice for first base. I used her there on my team and she was actually rather good there
Thank you for listening to my suggestion! I've only played the Game boy advance version, so I can't say much. Although, Jorge Garcias is, from what I've seen, one of the most interesting characters because half of the community(colorful arty, Reddit when they were discussing him on his turn for the backyard kids, Vhat D., mainly known as the guy who uploaded the soundtracks of each of the kids) think he's good, while the other half(you, Longball HQ, most journalists when documenting this game) think he's bad. From what I've seen, it's cause division 'community wide'. Who's placement would you say is your most controversial opinion?
Pete Wheeler at 1 is deff a choice, I gave my reasoning though. Hmmm, maybe ernie steele? I think some people like him. Probably angela & kenny - i think great pitchers are overrated
The Webber sisters hit like demons when playing together. just make sure you don't play them in adjacent positions as they tend to get in each other's way. Playing them together this way makes them Great.
Mikey was always my boy from the start and I'm satisfied. He's is great, the running is no good but he has power, I've hit many homeruns with him and I've used him for pitching and he's got a good arm, it's just the running.
The Webber Twins and the Kahn Brothers when paired with their siblings in my experience can be almost as good as the better hitters like Pablo and Pete.
I honestly think the creators secretly gave Pete a five rating when it comes to speed. Because when you look at him running, he does appear faster than Pablo. I always try to at least get Pete to 2nd base because after that, almost any decent low hit means that Pete is an automatic to make it home. That's how quick he is.
While the stats shown in game are easy to look at, every stat (contact, power, speed, etc.) Is actually a number from 1-100. Pete is the only character with a perfect 100.
Funny thing about Maria Luna is that she gets better overall stats than Pablo if your team is colored pink. I don't know if this is true for the original 97 Baseball game (since it doesn't show stat boosts), but for 2001 and 2003, this is absolutely true.
1) Pablo 2) Pete 3) Luanne 4) Achmed 5) Angela 6) Tony 7) Keisha 8) Kenny 9) Ashley For me, Pablo’s still the GOAT. Dude could play any of the nine positions, Pete is the best runner, but Pablo’s just more consistent. I always picked Lulu due to her breakneck speed and she’s actually a pretty good pitcher. Achmed is such a key hitter then both Delvecchios often don’t get the credit they deserve. Chizplays pitched a perfect game with Angela where she also hit a home run, insane. Keisha’s pretty good but sometimes she can be a really slow runner. It’s hard to tell if Kenny in a wheelchair makes him better or worse sometimes. Then I like both Webbers but Ashley to me has the slight edge, she just seems to get on base a lot more.
if you do a deep dive of their actual stats, Dimitri is a top 10 hitter in the game with his power+contact combo and Annie is much lower. I felt that when using him.
Kenny’s a great pitcher, and ironically is not as bad of a runner as Angela. Angela’s a terrific pitcher, and a very good batter, but you better hope she hits the ball out of the park, because she won’t have a chance running from base to base. I’m surprised that Kenny is only a 2 at batting, because I have not had too much trouble with him.
Amir is actually a better pitcher than Angela and Kenny. In fact he's the best pitcher. The only downside is his stamina is terrible compared to Angela and Kenny, but his pitches (The four basic ones) are all top tier minus slowball which is "only" very good
I use Ricky, due to him being kind of a lucky charm to me, As well, I never had once where he didn't catch, he makes for a great placement for first base, as all the times I used him he caught the ball.
My ideal team: never lost a game with this roster. Pablo Sanchez (Best player in the league) Kiesha Phillips (Good Hitter) Achmed Khan (Great Hitter; word of caution about his fielding, though. If someone throws the ball to him and he’s rockin’ out while listening to his music, he will drop the ball and he will also go to the ground when it hits him on the head). Amir Khan (average player; but has better victory song when he hits a home run than his brother: if he hits a home run when you play the World Series, it will make you feel like an MVP) Pete Wheeler (Best runner) Dmitri Petrovich (Good hitter) Luanne Lui (Second best runner; her and Pete could steal bases all day and night). Kenny Kawaguchi (Arguably best pitcher. Angela Delvecchio may be better at pitching and hitting, but she has a serious handicap in running. I prefer to play it safe with Kenny.) Edit: I think I only mentioned 8, so for the 9th player, I’d say is mostly optional. I’d go with either Angela, Tony, or Ernie Steele. Ernie’s a terrific fielder, but Tony and Angela are better hitters. Angela can relieve Kenny when he’s tired.
Pablo can't even explain why he is first because no one will understand him. Pete is good don't get me wrong! But Pablo for me is the best and Kenny should be right next to him. Kenny is like Randy Johnson and Pablo is like the face of franchise!! Pablo should be first on elite and Kenny at least 3rd in elite. Like at least put Kenny in great.
Marky and Billie Jean Blackwood on the same team is a cheat code, unless your the Socks, then, downgrade. Webber Twins and the Khan Brothers are boosted together on any team. Ronnie gets a downgrade but Sally gets an upgrade if they're paired together. Maria gets a boost if you have pink as a team color. Ernies, Kimmy's and even Pablo's boost comes in the later renditions of BYB.
We differ on some all speed people need to be great you can bunt your way on all time! Lol is this based on backyard baseball 97 only or across all the games?cause i know Dimitri becomes a much better hitter in the later games of series and to have to choose between pete and pablo is crazy impossible lol but ive had plenty of games where pete crushed the ball as well
@@sirchris6047 yeah if I could remake this list that would not be the case. Fun little tidbit ive changed as ive gotten older: i stopped pitching with angela to waste her stamina and she is a lot more useful when she can actually make it on base
Pete is very consistent in his skill while Pablo is kinda consistent but he is a power hitter with not a lot of constant hits but Pete gets on base no matter what and on my team he makes over half the outs because I put him at short to use his speed. But Pablo is still a legend
I have some disagreements. Dmitri is severely overrated by the fandom sometimes, this is a clear representation Marias stats are so misleading. Her batting is so awkward and her fielding is horrible. Annie is a bit mid to be in great. No hate just opinion lol

All of my elite pitching players are lower than most would put them. I find the difference between a 2-3-4 pitcher to be very slim.

He hits bombs more than his brothers some games but he is amazing and about the same as his brother stat wise when they are on the same team
this!! his stats absolutely skyrocket when with his brother. he’s easily one of my top players and i will always pick both of them. it’s honestly so cute that they have such a good sibling bond
