This was Panzerzug 32 captured by French forces on 7 September 1944 at St Berain. A lot of the train including the engine ‘Scarabeus’ was constructed in France. It was later taken to Lille and scrapped.
Resistance member "I could stay and shoot it out with an armored train but I think I'll take a leisurely walk a kilometer up the railway and disconnect another rail".
One of the machine guns being used is a Czech light machine gun. I believe the nomenclature is a zb.28, but not positive of that. In any event, it’s the weapon the British Bren gun is descended from. Not surprising, as the armored trains tended to be armed with substitute weapons

They are one of the few major powers who's military has a dedicated railroad engineer battalion. They are experts at constructing , repairing and operating railroads in wartime.
Even though it's a movie it's interesting to see how well the Germans had it organized with repair crews (I assume prisoners) in an open car at the front and tank able to roll off the back.
This action scene is fake, for the movie, La Bataille du rail', but, the train is really an ex-German armoured train. As well, in the end scene of the transport train crash, from this movie, apparently, from what I've read, everything you see is real. The train, the wagons, the tanks, and the half tracks. All ex-German military vehicles. All trashed for the movie.
Looks like a movie, and like most post ww2 films it vastly overblows the French resistance efforts during ww2. Far more Frenchman where supportive of Germany than against it. Most were simply neutral. Many aided German construction of the Atlantic wall, knowing full well what would happen if the allies were successful in invading France. Thier worst fears were realized as hundreds of thousands of French civilians homes were destroyed and tens of thousands died during the " liberation" of France. I guess the thought was that it's better to be occupied and alive rather than free and dead.

This is not an archival document. This is an extract from the French film "The Battle of the Rail" directed in 1946 by René Clément
Read video description?
didn't mean to imply it was just thinking it would not be far fetched for the Germans to use captured equiptment
Thank you.. I knew it was a movie.. just couldn't remember the name... A+ to you

Wow! As a rail fan seeing the armored locomotive in action is great!
You should then watch The Train with Burt Lancaster.
Смотрите советскую кинохронику. Это реальность, а не фильмы.
Whats the point of the persicope if you still need to put your head above the cover 1:21? doesnt make sense.

I believe that Tank at the end is a French Renault - the Germans did use allot of captured equiptment in ocupation zones

Yeah, looks to me like an R 35. The germans even used captured FT-17.
I've read that German pows seeing the amount of vehicles being used amazed them because they could only produce a tiny amount in comparison.
@@bigp3006Even during ww2 a lot of German units used horses.

That's Interesting; It Was René Clement Who Directed The Classic: "Is Paris Burning?"
"Panzerzug", what a train!
by TYCO, of course! 🚂
Russia still runs armoured trains, especially as you get closer to Ukraine.

Yep, but much better than the film train. Russians have Anti-air missiles, cannons, AAA cannons
Armoured trains are still high tech, if you live in the middle ages like Russia.

@@lajosnagy4087 Don't want to underplay Russian technology too much.
But yeah, armored trains became obsolete for a good reason even in WW2
Interesting bit of trivia, history arrives in many different ways. 👍

The train's shape reminds me of the Combine trains from Half-Life 2. Maybe they were inspired by this?
СССР уничтожил немецкие бронепоезда, Франция сняла фильм. "И эти нас победили"?.
Реальным бойцам Сопротивления благодарность.
props to the camera man for risking his life to capture this amazing footage
Название фильма??
1:27 I have such a can. I think this is a container for a French gas mask.
Germans always had cool looking stuff, American British and Russian had drab rudimentary equipment and uniforms.
Except the German uniforms stood out against almost any background.
off course when Hugo Boss designed the German uniforms
...drab rudimentary equipment and uniforms, which won the war.
I think that's what you meant to say.
@jamesclancy8091 Depends on what German military group you're fighting with....... Waffen SS???
Nice memories! Medal of Honour,Frontline...
Pov. Its 1943 and you’re a german watching all of your friends die do to an exploding panzersug
these trains were death trap. If the tracks are bombed then the train is of no use
Als junger Deutscher schäme mich noch heute.
Frieden und Freiheit dem französischen Volk!
Это какой должен быть бросок гранаты чтобы на такое расстояние швырнуть и попасть в цель😂😂😂
The Germans just got jumped

for 1946 i wonder that the panzertrains/panzerzuege were not destroyed at the end of the war or during air attacks.

Funny how fake the “German” tank at the end is.
Panzerzug used a variety of support tanks, often Czech 35T's but ghe use of the French built Somua is plausible.
