Hey friends! Welcome to a new video 😊 Old money aesthetic is about ditching the logo (be that Hermes, Chanel, LV etc) However, I think it’s possible to work a logo in, but it needs to be vintage! What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Hugs xx❤
I’m in exactly the same camp. I love the sustainability of it and the look (it’s my dressing style) but the judgemental undertone of it stinks to high heaven. My money is new, I made it myself after coming from inter generational welfare. I’m not ashamed of that, in fact I’m incredibly proud ❤
As a French national, I don't see what the fuss is about this old money thing. I dressed this way forever, just timeless/classic pieces with few logos, and a neutral palette and never called it that way, and neither did people around me. They use it as a marketing gimmick to make you spend more money. That is all :) xx ps: enjoying discovering Goella, thank you for showing us! I love that white short sleeve jacket but wouldn't get it with the short skirt - I will keep a look if they release it without!
I practiced law with many of the old money folks and they [at least in the pre-social media era] cared absolutely nothing for impressing anyone. Their names, and the names they dropped of their schools and their favorite vacation spots, said it all. This was the heyday of Brooks Bros. and Burberry, tweed jackets that had originally cost the moon but now had patches, and worn corduroy or khaki trousers. Ralph Lauren has become rich beyond the dreams of avarice by selling dreams of old money style to a lot of people who had never been within hailing distance of the truly old guard, old money -- because to know old money is to know that there is really nothing about them that makes them worthy of emulation and that they have the same faults and prejudices as the people who aren't good enough to join their clubs or buy into their neighborhoods.
What I like about this trend is that it's encouraging people to dress up a bit more and not constantly get around in trackies. In past generations when the ladies went out for example they would always wear a hat and gloves. But in recent years you feel way over dressed if you threw on a blazer over some jeans but now it's more normal as such.
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm from the US and people here dress like slobs. And what passes for "dressed up" is a joke! I'd rather be overdressed than underdressed.
You’re not “old money” when you try to look like “old money”. Wealthy families don’t think about how to look a certain way. They just are naturally that way. They don’t try, they just are.
Well they do make a conscious choice not to wear flashy clothes or big logos. I personally LOVE big logos and gaudy accessories so I don’t think anyone will assume I’m old money just based on the simple minimalistic and “quiet luxury” aesthetic that’s getting so popular but it’s my personal opinion that quiet luxury is a little too simplistic and boring.
@@TS-xn1mc same, I wouldn’t want to be someone I’m not so at this point i just choose whatever, I’m a mix of both styles, both crazy logos and accessories (like 2000s logo mania) and 60s,80s, and 90s preppy style with collared shirts
@@marikkelaszlo3355 I love mixing styles too! We have very similar styles cause I LOVE logomania but I do also love preppy and I love 90s punk with leather and plaid/tartan and safety pins. I’m a whole mix of styles and I also just don’t get why you would spend thousands of dollars on a bag if it wasn’t for the logo, cause otherwise why not just buy a cheaper real leather bag made by an artisan with no brand whatsoever? Obviously the reason we spend that much money on the leather is for the design and the logo. I would sooner choke than spend 5k on a bag that just looks like a regular bag I could get from Coach.
You couldn’t tell who had old money in Westchester County, N.Y. They just bought quality items and used them until they wore out. It might have a logo but it might not. When I see examples of the new Old Money aesthetic it looks preppy to me.
Why is it that when this topic comes up everyone seems to say that quite lux and old money have to me neural colors as to say if one likes reds, blues, yellows than one can’t be of old money or quite lux. I do remember that the queen often wore color as well and lady Diana. Color brings life and cheer and energy
I have always had a 1950s type of aesthetic. My parents are much older than others and my mom was in her 20s in the fifties so she retained that style and I inherited it from her possibly. But I find those silhouettes and fabrics timeless. I can’t afford luxury. I have a few pieces bags and shoes but people always ask me where I buy my clothes. Also tailoring is so important. If your clothes fit your body properly you will be default look polished. That’s what this aesthetic/concept mean to me. Love your videos Sophie such good information. ❤
Same, I’ve literally found a Burberry skirt, jimmy choos and D&G heels, and a Marc jacobs sweater in my thrift shop, designers stuff might not always appear but they will once in awhile 😄
I'm similar, not into logos generally, but there is a very specific gucci monogram bag in a specific colourway that I'm lusting after (I do have a scarf in the same print/ colour). Oh and the Celine triomphe belt (even though its ubiquitous which usually is guaranteed to put me off!).
People are being manipulated by catch phrases. Timeless style does not say your are rich or poor, it means your wardrobe is not dated, you know what colours and fit works with your skin tone and body type.
I think never society has been so fske snd annoying, too many people trying to look what they are not, and kind of destroying culture in the process. Your items in this video are beautiful, love them all.
I'm not sure if I agree with your outfit choices depicting old money.the dresses seemed really short and ill fitting. And your jeans had a slit at the bottom which again didn't resonate with the old money vibe. Cashmere sweaters, loro piana loafers, maxmara coats .that speaks old money to me.for eg my son mostly wears only loro piana.not a logo in sight but the quality is so astonishingly good that it shouts luxury.
It’s amusing when kids today dress up in the 80s style and never realize that we all looked ( in Florida ) like a Ralph Lauren or Benneton ad…we dressed in a way that made us look older than our parents.
Love this style of videos. The idea of pairing a less expensive version of an item with a understated designer bag, shoe etc is how I want to dress/purchase from now on Thank you for opening my eyes See you in the next video
For anyone interested, I’ve tried a couple of Goelia items - the quality is decent but I think isn’t made for anyone with larger busts (maybe C and up). I didn’t find the measurements on the site that reliable. I couldn’t button up their shirt dresses in sizes 2 sizes up from the chart suggestion
I have enjoyed "quiet luxury/old money" for many years. Every generation has to have their own slang words I guess. I was taught "wealth whispers." Today seems to be a throwback to the 80s/90s with some 70's denim thrown in the mix. All one has to do is remember it takes time to build a quality wardrobe and don't fall for fast fashion with cheap fabrics (except band t-shirts!). I will continue to buy designer pieces at consignment and thrift stores as I have since the 80's. I am also loving how easy it is to sell and buy quality clothing online today. Everyone can dress wealthy and be on a budget 😊 I also hope the trend of loud logo's does not return anytime soon.
I think your take is spot on. Quality textiles-- great. Buy better, eschew fast fashion-- fantastic. Try to look rich-- eww. There is just something sort of sad and tacky about that angle. Commodified elitism? Hard to put it into words but yeah no matter what the trend, people need to be true to themselves. And Goelia is absolutely on my radar now. Thanks for sharing a brand that also ships to the States and wow really reasonably priced.
your suggestions are just lovely. i like how you paired the sweater with the jeans. it looks so classic. in the end, it is all about exuding a calm elegance and looking put together. well done! thank you
I’ve been leaning towards wanting more of a timeless capsule wardrobe for a long time. To me this overlaps strongly with the old money ascetic. I don’t think you have to be rich to do this just committed to buying less and better. One store I really like is one quince, they sell silk, wool, 100% cotton and linen clothes for less and it’s all sustainably made. If I can buy four tops from h and m or one well made one from quince I’m going with the one from quince.
i love vintage bags..the workmanship from some branding still remains beautifully stitched even after decades..if looked after. i love colours, not necessary following trend but it should make you feel n look good that u know money well spent. i tend to wear same bags or outfit at some time then got sick of it n change theme after😂 tfs dear sophie, love yr honesty😊❤
"Quiet luxury" is definitely a short lived social media trend. These influencers latch on to something, hype it, and then move on once their short attention spans finds a new trend. It's so ridiculous. This way of dressing is actually called classic. Or even preppy. Ladylike. We have been doing this for decades. Way before social media or even the internet. I laugh how these social media people think they are innovative and created this stuff. Your clothes selections are so pretty!
I agree and I disagree! The quiet luxury/old money trends are as the the term implies, trending right now - but a low key, understated, no logo minimal aesthetic or style is something that is always with us - think Jill Sanders, or Filippa K to name just two - these brands have been around for ages, and aren't going anywhere. Logos are always with us, just sometimes they're really trending. Personally I go more understated, but I'm not adverse to a logo (but it's more about the item's overall aesthetic rather than the logo). Logomania will be back as a trend with the next economic upswing!
Forgot to say that yes, it's being pushed by the influencers, just as magazines have always pushed trends - that's their job, but most of the influencers I follow for their style tend to show the trends that fit in with their style. And yes some of them will move on to pastures new when this stops trending, and some of them will keep doing what they've always done.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your ideas on putting together a wardrobe! Great tips! In Texas it is already boiling hot, but I will refer back to this video in early fall! Thanks, Sophie!❤
All the clothing in this video were beautiful! I loved every piece you showed! Makes me wonder if i could pull off any of those looks. Thank you for this video!
Such lovely options as usual thank you Sophie. IMHO it's sad folks are seeing this as an old money thing. The aesthetic has been around for years, so I really don't see it as a trend but I do see it as a safeguard in these times.. perhaps it always kind of has been. It just might be some folks on YT have expressed this in terms that may not really be what the aesthetic actually is.
I love a logo and dont care if it’s not on trend. I just like what I like and it’s a mix of classic pieces and louder bits. I suppose my style is a bit rock chick and a bit hobo in summer. I’m 50 and I don’t care if people think I’m too old to dress in what I do. Love the crochet bags, they are so different.
Very smart outfits. Not whimsical enough for me…but then, i don’t generally visit places that call for the old money aesthetic. If I did, I would covet outfits like the ones Sophie put together.
I really think the trend is a Gen Z thing. These are new adults who grew up with the aesthetics movement on Tumblr and don't have a fully formed sense of self or personal style. Tbh this "trend" is just clothes I've always worn to look polished at work or whatever so it's amusing to me that there's a name for it? I just wish people would dress in a way that makes them feel good about themselves. That confidence is priceless!
Hi, I love you Sophie. I can tell you’re covering a topic that isn’t in the sweet spot of luxury you prefer. I understand. I enjoy your content even when it’s well beyond my means. Here, it overlaps with my real life, though. Somehow when I was young, I git the idea that if you didn’t have much you should at least buy well to look your best and not waste money on trendy things. To the point, I was exactly doing the one thing you said was ridiculous- having no money and trying to look like someone who has it. I’m 40 years older than when I first learned that I should have a navy blue suit, and I’m back to creating outfits again with an entirely different, rounder body. It would be nice in my case to look nice and upscale enough so I’m not confused with the help. It happens. If you have light brown skin and are chubby, in upscale stores it looks like there’s a doppelgänger of me with each baby stroller. I’m no ones nanny, though. I understand the confusion, I just want to do my part and look like I can afford the handbag I’m there to see. Thanks for trying on all those outfits. It looks exhausting. I love the pink and cream dresses.
Hi! My business partner and I decided that we are going to try and come to London in December for the Fashion Awards! I've always loved the classic silhouette because that never goes out of style. I was a teen in the 90s and was an absolute hot mess back then and the early 00's until I figured out my own style.
Hi Sophie, I hope you and David had a lovely Sunday! 😊 As far as the old money aesthetic is concerned, I personally don't consider it a trend as it's a way of dressing that has always been around, for example I've always liked Ralph Lauren and I've always bought garments from this brand. Certainly logos can be introduced, but only some of a certain "level" and in any case not too flashy.
Hello Veronica!! You make great points, I think you’re right - the ethics of old money styling isn’t a trend. I think perhaps it’s the name that’s been given to it that is? 🤔 Hugs to you!xx
I just have money 😂 and I dress with whatever speaks to me. I mix a $50 piece with things that cost thousands. I like what I like and cost is irrelevant.
@@SophieShohetOfficialno problem. Tbh I just started watching now (I was cooking earlier) & honestly I know people like me who like this style are being turned off now
Hello Jill! Ahhh we’ve really been enjoying the weather 😊 we went on a 4 hour walk yesterday with a pub lunch 😊 I hope you’ve had a nice weekend?? Enjoy the week ahead!!x🥰🥰❤️
Great video 👍 I don't like the name "old money". To me it's simply classic vs trendy or loud. And you can be all, depending on the the time and place. I love the idea of buying less and better quality but it doesn't mean it has to be beige or neutral. You can find lots of beautiful quality classic pieces in the whole rainbow of colours. I've been practising this since I remember. Never liked fast fashion. And you don't have to be mega rich. I always make a list what I need in my wardrobe and try to hunt the best quality classics during sales. The only items I do splash out on are the handbags (obviously 🙄🙈😂). Have a fantastic week 😁
I grew up "old money" and couldn't wait to get out... it was so boring!. Ever hear of Villager? I didn't watch that TV show so I"m not sure they're selling now. as part of that deal. You wearing the prettiest bright blue/lavendar nail polish doing an old money video is cute!
i am SO here for the "buy less but better quality" trend! i don't agree with the "here's how you should dress to look like you have money" part of this aesthetic either, but this was true when big logos were trending also - "hey, look at me, i can afford a *insert brand name here* t-shirt". people would buy fakes to fake their status and would always buy the latest thing; at least with quiet luxury I'm hoping we'll move to slow fashion which is a lot more sustainable and good for the planet. bottom line is, those who want to fake anything will always find a way, no matter what's trendy at one point in time
It's odd how many influencers who aren't from an old money background are desperate to convince people that dressing in baggy neutrals will make them too look rich. Wealthy people have old traditional secret codes in their outfits and they historically, love vibrant colors. I'm not a fan of old money aesthetic, since it is pretentious and boring.
Exactly, technically you can’t mimic 5 generation of wealth, old money dress like that because they build wealth for the next generation the old money dress style comes naturally because they care about quality in order to save more money:)
Its not just that. Its somewhat cringe. Old money, in this case, is a costume. The idea of people who wear chanel in an 'old money' context don't just wearing pearl jewelry or match their outfits meticulously. They wear things that are of SENTIMENTAL VALUE. Not a trend. A nice art deco piece or David Webb brooch for the Palm Beach crowd. Its not an overarching complete aesthetic in a bag... what they wear shows some aspect of their personality or history.
Coming from „old money“ (not that anyone in my family would ever call it that) I find it very funny that it’s now a trend for people to dress like my mom and grandma. However, I like the focus on quality fabrics.
Yeah, its bizarre. Old money type people are almost extinct. The families exist still but the taste level is gone. You can wear a Chanel suit but with a modern blowout it always looks like a costume to me. Without an old lady coiffure or something it just doesn't work.
I will call it classic and timeless look. This style has always existed. But influencers are trying to sell it like 😂 “if you know, you know” and if you don’t, you don’t” 😂
Something out of this topic, but it would be lovely that in the future you can make a video about your shoes collection! That would very interesting! Great video! 😊
Hi sophie😊❤love so much ur style with clothing..so classic elegant and beautiful so you..thankyou for sharing ..when u say old money it reminds me of the movie gone with the wind 😅why idk 🎉❤sending love n blessings to u and David ❤
I think I am basically too old to worry about that trend lol. Seriously Sophie, another fabulous video. I really want to stress how much I appreciate the time and effort that you put into putting your videos together. Just fantastic. And I would love to have a Launer bag only because the Queen carried them. They are so elegant. One of these days!
The pink dress is sooo beautiful and you look stunning in it! 😍😍😍👋 As for the old money, it's always been and will always be there. It is just the media using it as a trend for the moment.
Hi, Sophie! I really enjoyed this video and totally respect your point of view. I guess this "old money" thing is a trend, but I also think it's in response to the quite over-the-top logo-crazy, dare I say often gaudiness, of the past couple of years. The point of view of "you don't have any money, but here's how you can dress as if you do" could also be said of the last trend, which was the "I'm wearing numerous huge blingy luxury brands all over me. I sure look like I'm living the high life!" I love luxury quality clothing and handbags just as much as the next person. But I have to say I find this new trend refreshing. I've always dressed rather conservatively, even if I am carrying a luxury brand handbag or wearing a luxury brand clothing item. It's just a way of life for some of us. Whether it's in style or on-trend doesn't matter to me. It's the way I dress! For others, logos are the name of the game, and stylistically, if that's your thing, then go for it! If you love your luxury brand logos, then wear them. Wear what makes you happy and feel good about the way you look! That blingy logo-style trend is just not me. I will enjoy being "on trend" for as long as this lasts!
I agree to that to an extent. Since most of the time the only thing designer most people have or even sought after were accessories: Chanel bags, Birkins, expensive sunglasses, watches, Louboutins, cartier love bracelets. Those with actual money can spot that stuff from a mile away and find it somewhat irritating. Case in point: Alex from HRH Collection is very overly ridiculously angry and says 'luxury bags are ruined' or 'done' or whatever she says because now everyone has them. And its true... The cache of having those bags no longer is what it was. Now people want head to toe Gucci or whatever. Its just a cycle and a reaction. Minimalism seems to be creeping in again hence the more subdued "Old money" look. But let's be honest. Old money don't calculate outfits like this. They just get dressed. They dont pick the perfect earrings up at the shop at the same time they buy the blazer. They have those David Webb earrings from the 1980s they still wear in coral and onyx or Boucheron art deco earrings. So the whole thing is just pretty ridiculous.
I love those crocheted bags! I was wondering about the mini lengths trend being part of this quiet fashion. Is it just the anti logo bit or do they go against these "extreme trends? I'm thinking longer length skirts are more conservative.
I consider "old money" aesthetic just that...an aesthetic. I think the style is classic, timeless, and understated which I prefer. I don't think the look means a person is trying to fool anyone into thinking that they truly are from old money (there aren't that many truly old money people around!). It's a style that suites people who love it and keep it as their always style rather than following trends. My mother, who did not come from money by any means, had this kind of style. Just my opinion. Thank you for this video, Sophie!
Really enjoyed this video and your stylings. I think 'old money' as a fashion styling is a complete misnomer (and different from 'stealth wealth'). Real 'old money' people are rarely interested in fashion at all - their money goes into property and maybe jewellery. What people seem to be talking about as this latest aesthetic comes down to quality materials in neutral colours and classic styles - this was sold as classic French dressing last year!
Hi Sophie ! If you spoke French in this vlog you would create a guide " How to dress up like a Parisian" . 😍I think it is worse when some people cannot afford designer items but are spending all their savings on them just to pretend to be wealthy. Greetings from Paris 🗼
If people were only buying high quality pieces, like the ones you're showing and such, I wouldn't mind this trend as much. My big issue with "quite luxury" and "stealth wealth" style trend is that people are probably still just going to buy cheap fast fashion that mimick the look of expensive, quality pieces until a new trend comes along. Personally, I won't be making an effort to follow this trend, it's not me. I do like getting high quality pieces that I can wear for years, but I want them to match my style regardless of trends.
Is it just me or someone else also thinks that Sophie sometimes wears pieces that are too short for her? Like dresses that are too short and they are not complimentary to her figure. Or jackets/sweaters that have short sleeves for her. I definitely don't like her wearing short cropped jackets. I'm sorry but i think they are not complimentary for you because you have a long torso. I think they are too short for you and they don't look good on you. I'm not trying to be mean but I just don't think they compliment your nice figure. I have the same problem. I am tall and sometimes jackets don't have long enough sleeves and they look funny on me. Or dresses that fit too short because I'm tall. In my case, im very aware of this so I try to watch out to avoid this. I sincerely hope I don't offend you. I'm just trying to give you an honest opinion. I loved the pieces you tried except for the ones that are too short for you.
Hi Sophie! What are your thoughts on the wear and tear of the celine belt? I have been thinking of getting, it is so gorgeous! ✨ I don't like the "old money" word either, feels very classist - but I do really like the fact that it prioritizing quality! However, I am seeing lots of fast fashion making old money-style clothing... a bit ironic!
Hello lovely! Ahh, that Celine belt is brilliant! It really adds to a look and I find the quality to be really good. Yes, like you I’m not fond of the whole old money thing! But I like what it means at heart, about buying less and buying better 😘😘 Hugs xx
Can you make more personal videos about your life and challenges in your career? I miss those. I watch your older ones on repeat every once in a while. They are so helpful!
Hello lovely! You know, I’m honoured that you enjoy those types of videos! They don’t get many views and not many of you enjoy them, so to hear that you’re a viewer of those is great! I can certainly work on some more xx
I don’t really have an opinion, other than it’s fun to see others adapt to how I’ve always dressed. I was raised to invest where I could and be meticulous in their care to make them last as long as possible. It wasn’t necessarily about flaunting wealth, it was sort of the opposite in that for us it didn’t matter. Always quality over quantity in every aspect of my life, preferring to have less but that is manageable instead of having people, things that were throwaways. It feels strange to see people embrace it as a fashion trend but not a mentality ❤
Living in a year-round, very warm climate, no one really cares about old/new money aesthetics. I think that's true of most places in ordinary, day to day life. I dress simply and have some nice bags to make me feel a bit more polished. Plus, I like them, logos & all!
Not remotely true in most places. Places where 'Old Money' was a thing Greenwich, Charleston, Palm Beach in the US. People still very much have specific styles. Its dying out because social media is corrosive. The young generations with old wealth cosplay as working class wearing street wear now because its popular.
@@justinwilliams7290 also, I'd appreciate whatever you can tell me about Charleston. I know the style, but just want to know the specifics, to see if much has changed or not.
I wish you would do. I love your videos. I learn so much even though I can’t afford the need to a lot of the brand names I can find ones that look like that cheaper so I get a lot of ideas from you and I’m older, lol lol I wish she would do a video on wearing a watch. Do you match your watches do you wear smart watches the apple of the Fitbit versa is that classy? Is it not? Should you change your watch per outfit? Art things like that?
Great suggestion! I’m not massively into watches I will say. I own two that I love, but I don’t find my head is turned by watches like it is with bags. I’m definitely a bag person 😅xx
@@SophieShohetOfficial Oh my me too Actually changing handbags now. Sometimes I think I am addicted to handbags, lol I’m trying to go to smaller Handbags, but I just can’t seem to do that then when I carry the larger ones it feels like I’m carrying 2 ton Annie, L O L so I’m trying to go smaller
ALOT of social media fashion influencers are showing large stripes as old money.. but it's not. solids in muted colors or maybe tiny stripes but no patterns..
I agree with you that Quiet Luxury is No Logos. But, to me it's money and not "old" money. I have seen Quiet Luxury three times: A woman shopping at a craft store and she was wearing a suede skirt suit; A woman in an airport arrivals terminal and she was in cashmere and fine leather; and A woman photographed in a pastel pantsuit with shoes died to match and her hair had been done at a hairdresser. I think Quiet Luxury is a stupid trend I prefer discretion where money is not flaunted whether the money shows or not.
I don't have money but I like to dress with these chic fashion, it's just my style and not only since it's a big trend. I always used to love this preppy look. But I would never think when I see someone dressed like this, that she has much money! Why should you think so or expect the others think so about you, when every good fashion store has this kind of items for few money? How could you think it would be from Chanel or another designer? It just is ridiculous to expect this. And I personaly don't even want to look very expensive, like Chanel or something. I just want to look good. That's it. 😄 And by the way, when I have sawn something like your cardigan already two or three times in different videos, I know, I don't want to have it!
I really hope no one takes offence to this, and where I can appreciate how classy this style is, I feel like it’s aging. I’d feel like a granny dressing like this! I also wouldn’t feel authentic. I don’t have old money so why would I dress like that? 😅 x
Its costuming for Gossip Girl... its very strange. If you try to be trendy wearing anything like this, its going to look like a costume IMO unless you're naturally quite conservative (money or not). If you aren't, it either looks like a costume or kinda tacky. Anna Nicole Smith vibes.
I love the designer look but it doesn’t have to actually be designer. I save my money up to buy something designer if there is a particular piece I like, and I know that I will never be able to buy an Hermes Kelly as don’t think I could justify the cost (but never say never 😄), so have been going for the ‘inspired’ ones - I don’t begrudge others buying them though - enjoyed this video thank you xx.
In my opinion, the old money look trend is like taking a giant breath of COPEium. We are kidding ourselves! We just need to be well-dressed and be more mindful about what looks good on us and discard the rest.
I love the style and have been wearing it since the 1980s. I have always preferred classic styles. Who thought I would ever be trendy? I don’t think the financial connotations are anything new or anything concerning. For how many years has RUclips been flooded with videos on how to look expensive? I don’t see that this is any different.
Quiet luxury and old money style is just another description for minimalism designed to sell us more stuff. It´s literally the same stuff shoved down your throat like a few years ago when minimalism and the Celine Phoebe Philo style reigned supreme.
Sophi, thank you for the video. I are atrractive and slim, the only thing all these cloths have absolutely wrong lenths of skirts and dresses, i think Old money is about classical lenth to the knee or just below the knee, not above the knee, this lenth doesnt bring elegance , and if u compare all these cloths to princess Diana style, she always wore upto the knee or below.
Coincidentally, I do like a lot of the ‘old money’ looks but the phrase seems quite aggressive to me, designed specifically to exclude. (I am no money, new or old!). I don’t like lots of logos but I do like LV logo canvas. It is not really possible to quantify new or old. I like aspects of both. Thank you for the video!
Hey friends! Welcome to a new video 😊 Old money aesthetic is about ditching the logo (be that Hermes, Chanel, LV etc) However, I think it’s possible to work a logo in, but it needs to be vintage! What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Hugs xx❤
I don’t have old or new money🤣🤣🤣 I dress how I want whether quiet or loud. I love my style I don’t follow trends.
The best way to be!!xx
You great lady.
Exactly! Sometimes I feel like dressing very artistic and sometimes I feel like dressing up.
And THATS powerful🙌🏽
So sick of the terms old money and quiet luxury. I guess influencers have run out of topics to talk about. Let’s move on
We used to call it preppy. And before that academic. It's been around forever.
Well done!
As well you should.
As a French national, I don't see what the fuss is about this old money thing. I dressed this way forever, just timeless/classic pieces with few logos, and a neutral palette and never called it that way, and neither did people around me. They use it as a marketing gimmick to make you spend more money. That is all :) xx
ps: enjoying discovering Goella, thank you for showing us! I love that white short sleeve jacket but wouldn't get it with the short skirt - I will keep a look if they release it without!
I think it's because where you're from, this is the norm. That's not the case in the English speaking world nor here in North America.
@@teresahalliday3680 yeah agree, I'm from Australia so it would be the same or worse here!
Absolutely!
Absolutely!!
This is true!!xx
I have always had a 1950s type of aesthetic. My parents are much older than others and my mom was in her 20s in the fifties so she retained that style and I inherited it from her possibly. But I find those silhouettes and fabrics timeless. I can’t afford luxury. I have a few pieces bags and shoes but people always ask me where I buy my clothes. Also tailoring is so important. If your clothes fit your body properly you will be default look polished. That’s what this aesthetic/concept mean to me. Love your videos Sophie such good information. ❤
I love second hand shopping, seriously. Not only bags come pre-loved, designer clothes do too ❤🙃
Me too, I love a bargain too!!xx
Same, I’ve literally found a Burberry skirt, jimmy choos and D&G heels, and a Marc jacobs sweater in my thrift shop, designers stuff might not always appear but they will once in awhile 😄
Hi Sophie! Personally am not really into logos but am obsessed with the YSL logo! Whether it's on the handbag or as a brooch... ☺️ Much love dear xoxo
Hello lovely!! Yes I’m with you, I do love a bit of YSL! Xx
I ❤ love that logo too! There is something so elegant about it.
I feel this "old money" aesthetic is actually an 80s aesthetic? I get such "conservative 80s" vibes from it all. The cuts, patterns. Everything.
I am surrounded by old money! They mostly don’t give a rat’s a$$ about looking rich. They simply are.
Sophie! It FINALLY ARRIVED. My Launer Judi finally arrived!!! 9 months later. ❤
Yay!!! I hope you're loving it - well worth the wait I think! Hugs xx
Can you share a picture? I have been eyeing that bag too but can't find too many pics online other than on retail sites.
Who cares about old money or new money?! Enjoy your money and wear what you like. Screw the trends
Love this style of videos.
The idea of pairing a less expensive version of an item with a understated designer bag, shoe etc is how I want to dress/purchase from now on
Thank you for opening my eyes
See you in the next video
Thanks for sharing a brand that also ships to the States and wow really reasonably priced.
your suggestions are just lovely. i like how you paired the sweater with the jeans. it looks so classic. in the end, it is all about exuding a calm elegance and looking put together. well done! thank you
Thank you for such lovely feedback my friend, I hope you enjoyed watching 🥰🙏xx
Thanks for sharing. I love your dressing style. Could you do more goelia haul next time? 😊
I heard about this trend beginning of the year. It won’t be around much longer it’s just reaching its height. Trend cycles are soooo short these days
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your ideas on putting together a wardrobe! Great tips! In Texas it is already boiling hot, but I will refer back to this video in early fall! Thanks, Sophie!❤
For real! I can't imagine anything tweed😅
I can wear a pretty bag and jewelry with my hot weather survival clothes😂
Sheesh! The heat index was around 108 in Lampasas yesterday!
Im a petite 5'2" and I feel this style would just make me look old. I'm in my 40s but still think I look ridiculous in "grown-up" clothes!
I'm 5ft2 and dress quite classic, definitely doesn't make me look ridiculous. Think it just depends how you pull it off /body type
All the clothing in this video were beautiful! I loved every piece you showed! Makes me wonder if i could pull off any of those looks. Thank you for this video!
I love Goelia. So glad you talked about them.
Hey Sophie, I loved everything you showed. Classic style even with jeans.
I disagree on the choice of the items: sequence, tight fit, pink, babydoll style, mini length- all that has nothing to do with the "old money" style.
Happy Sunday Sophie! I like any classic styles that will never go out of style 😊
Great topic and I have always loved your fashion and bags ❤😊
I really think the trend is a Gen Z thing. These are new adults who grew up with the aesthetics movement on Tumblr and don't have a fully formed sense of self or personal style.
Tbh this "trend" is just clothes I've always worn to look polished at work or whatever so it's amusing to me that there's a name for it?
I just wish people would dress in a way that makes them feel good about themselves. That confidence is priceless!
The thing as a gen z person there are minimum 3/4 big trends going on at a time. It won’t last as trend cycles are shorter and shorter these days
I just thrift my clothing in a style I like. Most of my clothing is thrifted including bags and shoes. I got pretty nice jems looking chique 😊
As far as the old money aesthetic is concerned, I personally don't consider it a trend as it's a way of dressing that has always been around, for example I've always liked Ralph Lauren and I've always bought garments from this brand.
Hi Sophie, I love these kind of topics. Hope you & David had a good weekend
I’m so glad you enjoy these topics!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏 This is great feedback to get, thank you. Hugs to you and have a fab week ahead 😊💐xx

Great video 👍
I don't like the name "old money".
I love pre-loved RTW. Old or new pcs, just be comfortable & confident. Thanks for sharing my lady! 🙏🏼❤️😘😘😘Sandy
Love these outfits so much! Thank you Sophie for sharing
“If it’s good enough for the queen, then it’s good enough for us”
British people are funny 😂
Something out of this topic, but it would be lovely that in the future you can make a video about your shoes collection! That would very interesting! Great video! 😊
I love your outfit today Sophie. Happy Sunday to you & David & the bunnies 🐰
You’re so sweet, thank you my friend! And a very happy Sunday to you 🥰xx
I have a couple Italian, Handbags, and I love them
The pink dress is sooo beautiful and you look stunning in it! 😍😍😍👋
As for the old money, it's always been and will always be there.
If you want a designer looking double breasted blazer, but are on a budget, Walmart has a Balmain dupe for $39. Lily Silk has a similar one for $159.
@@SueRosalie Yes, that one is tempting.
Look 7 looks so classy and suits you very well.
Love the Cropped Blazer!!!🙌🏿👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💜💗
Those are such great outfits! Thanks for the inspiration and sharing your time with us!
Hello lovely Joanna, you make a good point! Hugs to you and have a great week ahead 🥰xx
Keep 'em coming Sophie...I don't think most of your viewers are too upset about the connotations.
I don't like the "old money" word either, feels very classist - but I do really like the fact that it prioritizing quality!
I have the celine bag in the thumbnail highly recommend it 🥂
Can you make more personal videos about your life and challenges in your career? I miss those. I watch your older ones on repeat every once in a while. They are so helpful!
Hello lovely! You know, I’m honoured that you enjoy those types of videos! They don’t get many views and not many of you enjoy them, so to hear that you’re a viewer of those is great! I can certainly work on some more xx
Love the outfits you chose Sophie 😊
It's really about finding your own thing 🌞
Not remotely true in most places. Places where 'Old Money' was a thing Greenwich, Charleston, Palm Beach in the US. People still very much have specific styles. Its dying out because social media is corrosive. The young generations with old wealth cosplay as working class wearing street wear now because its popular.
@@justinwilliams7290 also, I'd appreciate whatever you can tell me about Charleston. I know the style, but just want to know the specifics, to see if much has changed or not.
do you have any codes for mytheresa or net a porter?
Hey Sophie, as much as l like you, I think your style is a far cry from old money aesthetics
@@SophieShohetOfficial
Oh my me too
Actually changing handbags now. Sometimes I think I am addicted to handbags, lol
I’m trying to go to smaller Handbags, but I just can’t seem to do that then when I carry the larger ones it feels like I’m carrying 2 ton Annie, L O L so I’m trying to go smaller
@@marieleemcgill5011 I’m the same, if I use a big bag I will literally fill it with non-essential items!😂xx
ALOT of social media fashion influencers are showing large stripes as old money.. but it's not. solids in muted colors or maybe tiny stripes but no patterns..
I agree with you that Quiet Luxury is No Logos. But, to me it's money and not "old" money.
I have seen Quiet Luxury three times:
A woman shopping at a craft store and she was wearing a suede skirt suit;
A woman in an airport arrivals terminal and she was in cashmere and fine leather; and
A woman photographed in a pastel pantsuit with shoes died to match and her hair had been done at a hairdresser.
I think Quiet Luxury is a stupid trend I prefer discretion where money is not flaunted whether the money shows or not.
Do you consider the Hèrmes H belt to be old money?
I don't have money but I like to dress with these chic fashion, it's just my style and not only since it's a big trend. I always used to love this preppy look. But I would never think when I see someone dressed like this, that she has much money! Why should you think so or expect the others think so about you, when every good fashion store has this kind of items for few money? How could you think it would be from Chanel or another designer? It just is ridiculous to expect this. And I personaly don't even want to look very expensive, like Chanel or something. I just want to look good. That's it. 😄
And by the way, when I have sawn something like your cardigan already two or three times in different videos, I know, I don't want to have it!
Love all your videos🎉
I love the designer look but it doesn’t have to actually be designer. I save my money up to buy something designer if there is a particular piece I like, and I know that I will never be able to buy an Hermes Kelly as don’t think I could justify the cost (but never say never 😄), so have been going for the ‘inspired’ ones - I don’t begrudge others buying them though - enjoyed this video thank you xx.
The Intro part I so agree about
In my opinion, the old money look trend is like taking a giant breath of COPEium. We are kidding ourselves! We just need to be well-dressed and be more mindful about what looks good on us and discard the rest.
I think any money style works best when driving Lamborghini to you own 60+ ft yacht
I feel like part of the discussion isn't just how to dress like the rich, but how to clock the rich.
They don't actually dress like this though.
I think I dress like NO Money! 😁
