I really appreciate these interviews. Roy is so great at this. He's a generous host, perfect for these longer conversations. Love love love that Lewis Black!!
Roy is great at this, at least in this instance (him and Trevor have had their moments, but that's largely scripted) And as raw as Lewis can be, he's one of the most sensible, sensitive men. When Roy smiles the way he's doing when Lewis talks, he looks like a kid! LOL This interview is a keeper.
Roy, I'm so glad you did this particular interview. I've always been a Lewis B. fan. I've never seen him live, but I know he's been underrated most of his career. I think he should have a longer segment on TDS, maybe once a week. I love him 'cause he's so real. Tku!
@@kathrynmickelson1091 I love his 7 words, and a few other of his lines, but for flat-out rants, I've always thought that Lewis Black does it better. _~shrug~_
Roy, I gotta tell you that I really enjoy these longer conversations you've having. You and I are the same age and growing up all the comedians and interesting people were much older and felt far away. Now it's really interesting to get the perspective of established comedians who grew up at the same time as me. As a fellow southern boy one of the funniest things you've done was around this time of year when all the white women are going nuts over pumkin pie spice coffee you came up with sweet potato pie spice coffee. To a white boy who thinks soul food is the best that cracked me up! Bravo Roy, keep 'em coming.
Lewis Black is my favorite comedian, precisely because he’s so funny when he’s angry. Those forefingers get going and I just cry laughing. Thanks for the interview Roy!!
Whoa. I forgot Lewis Black was part of the Daily Show since Craig Kilborn days. I love the black laptop in his bit. Most were a beige color around that time. Thanks for decades of rants Mr. Black.
I remember Lewis Black's self-sanitized HBO special when he did a stand-up act in LA during the 1990s. The "cantankerous guy" act fit him like a glove, and it only got better as he aged because Lewis Black shouting at the clouds is always funny.
I dearly love the Beyond the Scenes with Roy Wood Jr.!!! This was super special because I revere and adore Lewis Black! When he talked about pundits, I immediately thought of his movie with Robin Williams, "Man of the Year" where he explains what's wrong with pundits being on news shows. It was brilliant and I still quote it constantly. 🤗❤
Speaking of O.G.'s. it's got to be Roy. Yes, Roy...of all US comedians he's the one who got to the bottom of all bottoms when it comes to defining USA: "stolen land with stolen people and a stolen national anthem"😃 Luvya Roy!! 👏👏
I love Lewis Black, I've been watching him on The Daily Show since it started! It was something my dad and I used to watch together and bond over, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert! So thanks for having him on Roy, this was a great episode of Beyond the Scenes! 😁
Loved this whole thing but especially the question and discussion about the difference between structured / well crafted comedy and just rage punditry. Important distinction that I think we’d all benefit from better understanding.
Trev you're cool and all but ROYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THIS. 40 mins of Roy Wood Jr. and Lewis Black is what I needed today.
legend of his region of comedy that was carved out by his own hands. Hard to replicate. I appreciated this interview and love these beyond the scenes. Keep diving in and never stop the discussion guys! Great Work!
I would like to take a moment, in the midst of watching this video, to say how much I enjoy these “Beyond the Scenes” segments. I appreciate how candid they are. I appreciate that they tackle important issues that should be discussed in more depth. Finally, I appreciate how thoughtful Roy’s questions are, and how respectful the whole conversation is. I have always enjoyed Roy’s humor, but he is an excellent interviewer, and this format has been stellar, despite the limitations with the pandemic. Bravo.
This is the first one where I really wish they just kept going! Forget the one hour cut off just keep going!!! That's supposed to be the point of podcasts anyway the whole idea that you have almost an open ended forum to play with
I love the term counter culture as it is in battle with cancel culture. Anything is called out as cancel culture now. Granted you shouldn't drudge up a decade old social media post to have someone fired, but calling everything cancel culture is annoying. It's not cancel culture. You're just counter culture

Interesting, most people don't understand the market moves and tend to be mislead in facts like this and always depend on Money in the Bank very bad idea .
I understand the fact that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, but investing today is a hardthing to do because I have no idea of how and where to invest in?
Lewis Black!! Adult humor, he is so searingly funny. Always listen in ... and Roy Wood and Ronnie Cheng are excellent as well. So interesting to see these funny men who are also mensches. Bring back Lewis more often. America needs him!
I got to see Lewis Black live back in 2017 when he performed at my university(CSU Chico). It was a hilarious night but I was inspired by the intelligence he puts into his comedy.
Roy Wood Jr Jr and Lewis Black!
That is a must see episode of Finding Your Roots. This episode of Beyond the Scenes is perfect. Thank you both!

I see Lewis Black, I click. I see Roy Wood Jr, I click. I see both Lewis AND Roy, I click so fast, my finger time travels.

Fabulous description of what I do; and in this particular vid, Roy looks so happy it reminds me he's way too young for me. ;)

Thank you, Roy! My Dad (when he was alive) loved Lewis Black and I still do! I love your podcast, but this one has to be my absolute favorite!
When my cup runs dry, when I weep with despair, Lewis Black makes me snort with laughter. Somehow, improbably, satiric humor makes life bearable.
Lewis black and George Carlin rants are always on the up and up.

What incredible speakers; I've quoted them countless times & they've help a lot of us look critically at politics rather than just ignoring it.
It's so cool to see these highly skilled comedians speak seriously about their trade and about the topics they lampoon.
Very true. Really enjoyable! 😊
