mauls death is such a perfect ending to his arc. being held by kenobi. they both lost their brothers and lives to the darkisde. kenobi lost anakin and maul lost his brother at the hands of the palpatine. avenge us, to me means that luke was going to defeat palpatine and avenge them both.
I always figured that Maul was looking for Obi Wan so that he could maybe fine some level of peace and hope. That he went to Tatooine to die and to find just that. That he never had any plans to kill Obi Wan and get revenge. I think at this point in Maul life he is past revenge at least against Obi Wan. He would still love to get revenge on Sidious and the Sith. But he knows that is impossible as long as Vader is around as he can't defeat him. I mean if I recall correctly Maul never once speaks about getting revenge on Obi Wan during Rebels. I mean when Ezra asks Maul what he is looking to get out of the Holocron Maul tells him he's looking for "Hope". I mean some may take that as him just playing Ezra. But for me I think he really meant that. I think he figured that if Obi Wan was still alive and hiding that he was doing so for an important reason. For me I think Maul already figures he got his revenge on Obi Wan when he killed the only women he ever loved Satine. After that his revenge was focused on Sidious after he killed his Brother and for throwing him away. At the end of Clone Wars he was no longer focused on Obi Wan he was interested in getting Ahsoka to join him so that they could take down Sidious and Anakin. I think if it was Obi Wan and Anakin who showed up instead that he would have attempted to sway Obi Wan to his side compared to trying to take him on. Maul to me had no intention of killing Obi Wan his intention was to die and before he did to ask him if he was the chosen one. And if he was then he could die while having some level of comfort, peace and hope before he did emotions he hadn't felt in decades hell might have never once felt those emotions.
It's fan films and videos like this that make me love Star Wars so much. They do a great job of showing how all the these stories connection with each other in a big way.
Everything Maul ever had was his Hatred and his Revenge. Like even he seeks his vengeance from Kenobi. There is no one in Star Wars that hated Palpatine more than Maul
I still remember seeing Phantom Menace as a child in the theaters. And Maul was the main attraction. I’m so happy Clone Wars brought him back and developed him because he’s a literal gold mine of literary material. Great Reaction!
I love how desperately Maul wanted Ezra to be his apprentice. Ever since Palpatine took his old apprentice Savage from him, it's like he lost a part of himself. You could tell he was genuinely sad when Ezra rejected him.
Darth maul is a really great character in the clone wars and rebels. I think his end and last words with obi wan was a perfect send of for his character. I cant imagine anyone else voice maul Sam voiced him perfectly.
There's so many series that could be set in the period between PT and OT, like the Obi-Wan series, Ahsoka's Fulcrum years, and Maul running Crimson Dawn and how he came to be stranded on Malachor.
Maul reminds me of a bully, he had to endure a lot of pain. He is a victim himself. But he projects all his pain and suffering on obi wan. He feels like shit so he wants obi wan to feel worse in a twisted form of brotherhood almost. He wants obi wan to suffer as much as he did. He's obsessed with making obi wan feel pain. He's also very lonely. Something I noticed especially after savage died that he is super lonely. Something that always stuck to me is that when he tried to recruit ezra he drops the line (it has been a while since i saw it): as brothers. He tries to fill a void of loneliness with an apprentice. He was also comparing his own situation with that of ahsoka when he tried to recruit her. Maul wants companionship. He is such a tragic character.
Oooooh, I finally figured it out "He Will Avenge Us" (not for the sith), but for them Maul and Obi. And it only adds drama Thank you Xelle for the clarification 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Obi Wan taking Maul’s legs was the equivalent of Anakin taking Dooku’s hands, of course if Anakin didn’t kill Dooku, Dooku would most likely never be able to have the same mastery of dueling with robotic hands as he did with his real hands. The same goes for Maul’s legs, his style of combat was highly dependent on his legs and the way he moved rather than brute force. Obi Wan essentially took everything from Maul, his combat and his potential to be a powerful Sith Lord and perhaps overthrow Palpatine. That’s why Maul wanted to take everything from Kenobi.
Maul's story has certainly made me feel speechless and emotional, especially since he is the one responsible for the deaths of two important characters in Obi-Wan's life.
The moment it showed Qi gon’s “image” moving the lightsaber in sync with Obiwan in the final moment of Mauls life...I got chills. He started with his stance and ended with the finishing move Qi Gon would’ve used.
Maul is such a wonderful character...so sad the he doen't have his own show or movie...is a rich character with so much stories to tell...and so much pain and suffering, almost like Anakin's fate in a sense...
I want to see a 'what if' plotline of Maul winning that last fight against Obiwan, and then realizing it's up to him to protect Luke as a means to the end of destroying Palpatine
I’ve seen the Hatred video many times and I’ve been a Sam Witwer fan since his Force Unleashed, Battlestar and Being Human days. I think I might like Maul more than Vader at this point
Gaxelle, have you heard about the Clone Wars Sequel? Star Wars: Bad Batch is supposed to come out in 2021. Maybe you could make a video on it... Predictions and things...
Lucas has been quoted about his movies as saying that (paraphrasing a little) they are like poetry; they rhyme. And his "Palawan" Dave Filoni seems to have learned that lesson quite well, as seen in the relationship between Maul & Kenobi.
And in the end... as the Darkness takes me... I am nothing. Here it is, the cruel truth and the result for all Sith, devouring each other in pursuit of empty and meaningless might, lust for power or revenge.
In those last words it all made sense... "He will avenge us" meaning the chosen one he will destroy the empire & avenge us as a whole.. Not the dark side I think the reason Darth Maul lived out his whole life so bitter & acting so evil with his deep hatred inside is actually because the fact is he never hated anyone other then Obi Wan who ruined his image by knowing so much about him and stopping his plans. Other then that he also took situations very far and drastic just to go harder then the empire & leave his mark and name everywhere by taking life & being carless.
I had never seen that video either, very moving. Maul is a great character. For more great character development for Maul, I recommend reading the 4-part “Son of Dathomir” Marvel comic series. It was adapted from the script for what was originally planned for The Clone Wars before it was cancelled when Disney first purchased Lucasfilm. I believe the comic series was released in 2013.
